Garden furniture out of stock at John Lewis?

Appuskidu · 20/03/2021 16:32

I’ve found the perfect garden dining table and chairs set online at John Lewis but it’s out of stock. I have then started to look at other types they sell and most of them are out of stock as well! Is that a lockdown thing and they’ll have more available next month or are JL in trouble? Sad

It’s still early for garden things. Maybe give customer service a call to see when it will be in? Or just keep checking every few days

GU24Mum · 20/03/2021 16:34

It's an import problem. Look on the BBC website from a week or so ago and there's an article about how much more expensive the containers are to come over from China.

sidsgranny · 20/03/2021 16:39

I think it may be a combination of lockdown and the time of year. Spring is here and people are anticipating being able to see people in private gardens in the next couple of weeks.

Not sure what you're looking for but we've just got this lovely set from Lazy Susan - arrived last week.

Just gone in to get the link to paste and it's saying pre-order for delivery Mid-May which def makes me think it's lockdown and the anticipation of summer!

JL seems to have massive issues with stock. This has been going on for a while, including most of last year.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 20/03/2021 16:41

That’s very nice, @sidsgranny. Garden furniture is a tough one, I always think. There isn’t much I like but that’s nice.

PresentingPercy · 20/03/2021 16:42

No. Its is Brexit and lockdown combined. It has been in the news that very little is available. Demand is outstripping supply.

GreenGarden22 · 20/03/2021 16:45

Lots of my local garden centres have already complete sold out. We went to 5 different places last week! Have found some availability online though x

@GCAcademic I agree. They were having issues before Brexit supply issues which have no doubt exacerbated existing problems.
PattyPan · 20/03/2021 17:15

I think there might be pent up demand for garden furniture from last year. Last summer was our first as homeowners and we were after some garden recliners all year, only managed to get some last month as they were all out of stock. I've been looking at greenhouses and sheds and there seems to be less stock of those about too.

Chihuahuacat · 20/03/2021 17:17

It’s not just JL it’s everywhere. I managed to get some from Argos but it was a real struggle

LIZS · 20/03/2021 17:18

Lots of delays on imports at the moment but garden furniture was probably not scheduled for delivery until Easter anyway.

AllTheCakes · 20/03/2021 17:19

What set were you looking at? Maybe we can suggest an alternative.

Thank you-it’s this one!

It’s something I’ve noticed with different things which is due to problems with imports to the UK. Dyson don’t know when they’ll be restocking the airwrap, Aldi are delaying some special buys as they can’t get them in time. Then a lot of shops aren’t open so people are going online more to the same retailers.

jaundicedoutlook · 20/03/2021 17:52

Try Neptune or Westminster. Their garden stuff is lovely.

YouSingIt · 20/03/2021 17:56
This any good: www.oldrids.co.uk/monaco-4-seater-round-garden-dining-set-oak/p34392?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6-nQ67y_7wIVJu_tCh1cJQe6EAQYASABEgJqFPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
That’s nice! The chair cushions are lighter than the JL ones which might be unwise with kids, but it’s definitely in the right price bracket-thank you! 16 week delivery wait is better than totally out of stock, as well!

AllTheCakes · 20/03/2021 18:22

This looks very similar and cheaper too, but another out of stock Sadhttps://www.laura-james.co.uk/products/4-seater-rattan-round-dining-table-chair-set-grey-garden-furniture-outdoor

Procrastatron · 20/03/2021 18:25

OP, those waterproof cushions tend to be indestructible and bleach friendly. Well mine are (different brand) at least!

UntamedWisteria · 20/03/2021 18:28

It's to do with shipping and it's affecting supplies everywhere.

LockdownCheeseToastie · 20/03/2021 18:29

We got some lovely teak garden furniture from the local auction place recently- all bidding online at the moment but was loads cheaper than it would have been new so might be worth looking at second hand to get you through this year at least (can always resell it and get new when it’s back in stock).
