They wanted to comment on how small it was, and I agree.
I thought I’d share.
I’d be interested to see measurements and know how much they are asking for it.

Gosh yes. That's small. If that's supposed to be a family home, the dimensions are very cramped. Greedy developers.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 16/02/2021 22:53

It's a modern two bedroom house - it's small, but not shockingly so. I'd rather do without the downstairs loo and have some separation of the kitchen and living room. To call the middle section the dining area when it's two barstools at a peninsula is a bit of a mickey take.

wellthatsunusual · 16/02/2021 22:54

This is not relevant to the size but when I was wee and used to visit relatives in England I remember always being really taken with how so many houses had the kitchen at the front because I had never seen that at home.

To me this doesn't really look any smaller than any number of other small 2 bed houses, although it's definitely clear if you look at the still photos compared with the 360 view that the still ones paint a rather more flattering picture.

exexpat · 16/02/2021 22:54

My DS and his girlfriend rent a new build house a similar size and layout to this. They are in their early 20s, the spare room is for friends to stay/working from home/drying the laundry, and it works fine for them, but the living space would feel tiny as soon as you brought kids into the picture. Plenty of people live with less space than this, though.

BiarritzCrackers · 16/02/2021 22:56

It'll cost you £119,500 in Hartlepool! Guess it's more or less in other areas. That downstairs space is 22' 2'' x 12' 2'' (6.75m x 3.71m).

ClaudiaWankleman · 16/02/2021 22:57

I live in a house exactly like this now.

They are exceptionally small. There is no space anywhere. It’s difficult to store food and cooking equipment and plates/ bowls/ cups in the cupboards. I really hate it.

ClaudiaWankleman · 16/02/2021 22:58

Upwards of £500k (asking price) in outer London.

CoronaIsWatching · 16/02/2021 22:58

I don't think it's supposed to be a family home - It's a 2 bed terrace. Personally I think the size is fine and doesn't look much smaller than most 2 bed terraces you view on Rightmove. Certainly not small enough to comment on Reddit about it.

CoffeeRunner · 16/02/2021 23:00

These are £190,000 on the new build estate near me.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 16/02/2021 23:00

Downstairs loo opening straight into kitchen/diner/lounge.
Grimbo.

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 16/02/2021 23:01

To normal people like me, that's a perfectly nice 2 bed starter home - and i suspect to all the people who aren't middle class mumsnetters who live in a 5 bed pile in the country.

ATowelAndAPotato · 16/02/2021 23:02

Awww reminds me of my first house! Fine for a couple, especially if you are both out at work full time. It’s not really marketed as a family home, is it? Although I agreed the downstairs wc seems a bit pointless, and more storage space/better separation would have been more practical

SatsumasOrClementines · 16/02/2021 23:03

For a house where everything has been placed with absolute precision why are there two identical books on display?

Is the house ‘setter’ getting cuts from CJ Carver? Is it CJ Carver’s house? Is there a CJ Carver conspiracy going on? (And who is CJ Carver anyway?)

I agree that it’s fine for a couple. I used to live in a standard 2 bed terrace and it was bigger than that!

Where would you keep things like the mop, hoover and wellies with no under the stairs cupboard?

It is perfectly nice, and I’ve lived in tiny flats before. I’m not middle class mumsnet. I think that it is indicative of house builders knowing they can get away with the minimum they can.

That annoyed me too.

Where about is that? That seems a huge amount of money to me for a small house.

Similar places to where you would in a flat - I keep the mop in the bathroom, hoover and wellies at the bottom of my bedroom wardrobe. Or you could keep them under the sink
Randominternetbitch · 16/02/2021 23:08

OP, your privilege is showing. The house looks perfectly fine to me and pretty similar to the 2 up 2 down we had when we first got married. Let’s not forgot that for some families in temporary accommodation, having more than one room is a luxury.

SatsumasOrClementines · 16/02/2021 23:08

^ This. I mean, it has two bedrooms and a garden!

But new home developers are arseholes. They had the opportunity to plan houses with storage etc and they purposefully cut these things to make money.

Argoscatalogueandabingoma · 16/02/2021 23:08

Gosh that's small. My bedroom is the same size as the downstairs. We're in a 2 bed flat that cost less than 90k.

BonnesVacances · 16/02/2021 23:09

It would be better to buy that off plan and forego the downstairs loo in favour of storage IMO.

BarelyFunctioning · 16/02/2021 23:09

To people saying yes it's normal - yes it is normal. But that's because there used to be building regulations regarding the space inside homes that were removed during Thatcher's government. This is why houses built in the 60s and 70s seem so spacious now.

Modern houses like these take two minutes to build and developers are getting greedier and greedier. In order to open the wardrobe and access it in one of those bedrooms you'd have to move the chair.

That's who I take issue with - the developers. This is not snobbery - quite the opposite.

Busydoingnowt · 16/02/2021 23:09

I lived in a house like this and even without kids it was far too small. There was no storage anywhere. A couple of people on the estate took out the downstairs loo and used the space for a washing machine and storage so that they could have a little bit more space in the kitchen.
