Ordered our new chevron floor and loved it, the pictures online it all blended together and looked somewhat like a real wood floor and I've been so excited but seeing it fitted all I can is see the joins. You can so clearly see the tiles. It looks awful, doesn't it?

I wouldn't call it 'awful'......

MaMaD1990 · 12/02/2021 17:22

I didn't even notice until I'd read your post!

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 12/02/2021 17:24

You have to really look to see the joins, no one will notice apart from you .

LubaLuca · 12/02/2021 17:31

It does look like tiles, but that's what I'd expect. It doesn't look awful.

OhAnotherNameChange · 12/02/2021 17:31

I can see what you mean but honestly I wouldn't have thought anything of it. Personally I think it looks really nice, much better than the 70's green carpet adourning my kitchen floor so I'm jealous 😁

CovidCakeConundrum · 12/02/2021 17:32

I think the joins are very obvious and clear even from the small thumbnail photo. Its not awful though...

PresentingPercy · 12/02/2021 17:34

What is the floor made from? Looks ok to me.

TLIMSISNW · 12/02/2021 17:34

I think it’s lovely.

FlippinEll · 12/02/2021 17:36

@PresentingPercy

It's quickstep waterproof laminate. Most laminates I've seen aren't tiles they look like planks of wood, I didn't do enough research and assumed these would be the same but due to the pattern I imagine they are more like laminate tiles. It just doesn't look right to me but I guess I just expected something different. My fault completely.

That's what it's supposed to look like.
Even if it was real wood it would be separate blocks.

TheSandman · 12/02/2021 17:39

I've seen (and lived with) worse.

Two weeks from now you won't be staring at it all the time.

A week after that you won't notice it all.

You'll only notice it again in a few years when you start thinking it's looking worn out.

TheVanguardSix · 12/02/2021 17:40

Not awful in the least. You'll get used to it and nobody will bat an eye. In fairness, I'd have the exact same 'oh shit!' response. But don't worry. It doesn't look at all bad.

Greenevalley · 12/02/2021 17:45

My floors are the cheapest, most awful laminate the previous owners could find I think.
They are a strange shade of orange brown.

Your floor is gorgeous.

FlippinEll · 12/02/2021 17:46

@Bamaluz

That's what it's supposed to look like. Even if it was real wood it would be separate blocks.
I knew each row of the chevron would look seperate, but I didn't expect them to look like each row was made up of seperate tiles if that makes sense.

But if it was real wood herringbone parquet, it would be made of wooden tiles and there would be joins. It looks fine!

devildeepbluesea · 12/02/2021 17:51

I had to really look. I think it looks lovely.

But now you've said it, I do understand what you mean. Nevertheless, it's not awful, it's still lovely.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 12/02/2021 17:54

It's not awful, but it is obviously tiles. I really wouldn't worry about it though, just enjoy it while it's nice and clean and new.

Fuckitsstillraining · 12/02/2021 17:57

I'd be disappointed with it too. Its obviously short tiles, the joins are very visible. Was it laid by the seller or did you do it yourself? I'd be contacting the seller if they installed it and pointing out the difference between it and you seen advertised.

SylviaPlath1984 · 12/02/2021 18:00

I'm sorry op, I'd be disappointed too.

It's not awful, but if it's not what you were hoping for and expecting then it's going to feel "awful" to you. I think with that sort of pattern it has to be either genuine wood flooring or in long planks, that's how it usually comes. The square tile format just really doesn't seem to work for this style.

What's the plan op? Can you live with it or is it a redo situation?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/02/2021 18:06

It's hard to know what it looks like in IRL, but on my phone it looks fine, I was sure what your problem was until I zoomed in and knew what I was looking for.

Saz12 · 12/02/2021 18:07

Honestly? It’s obvious in your pictures that it’s made up of square tiles. I don’t think anyone will really notice them other than you, though. I’d definitely not go to the expense of replacing them.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/02/2021 18:08

What would annoy me more is that it hadn't been laid central to the door frame.

Beck2017 · 12/02/2021 18:12

You know what, it will look even better once it's been walked on a bit, yes it looks brand blinking new now, but six weeks of micro scuffs will bring out the beauty, I love it

Mylittlepony374 · 12/02/2021 18:14

I think it's not great. Clearly tiles. But there is no way I'd notice it in real life, in anyone else's house. So I would try and forget and leave it as is.
