Stainless steel sink with glass surround and drainer - has anyone had one of these?

Really like the look of this but just wondering if anyone has any experience with them? Do they damage easily? Easy to clean? Etc etc...

Had my heart set on a Belfast sink originally, but wouldn’t work with the worktops I’m having, so looking for something a bit different and this looks really nice. Thanks :)

it looks lovely but black glass would show every single water drop and i think you would find yourself constantly trying to keep it shiny i went for silk finish stainless steel surround dry and polish with a tea towel twenty seconds job

I’m looking at a laminate worktop, which won’t work with a Belfast sink as they’re under mounted so the exposed edges are a problem. You need a solid worktop with them as far as I can tell.

I have one, a cooke and lewis (b & q) Almost 4 years on it’s still like new, a bit of viakal every so often gets rid of watermarks. I use a mat under my dish drainer. I’ve dropped all sorts on it and it’s never chipped/cracked.

I do not have a drainer. Waste of space.Instead two big sinks are better. You drain in the second sink. Small sinks have limited use. Use a roll mat (Franke) if you want to drain on the work top.

That looks really smart, Knowing my luck I’d drop something on it in the first week and break it. 🤔

You can buy over counter Belfast sinks which you can use with laminate. We've got one from IKEA (which is a double sink) although it's sadly discontinued now and the new one isn't as nice. You might be able to pick something similar up though.

That’s good to know. Watermarks were one of my concerns.

Hadn’t thought of that. I do need the cut out part fir the sinks to sit above a standard 600mm unit though, as I’ve not got the space to extend the run on that side of the kitchen.

600 is just one sink then or 1 and a tiny one. But do you need a draining board. It’s a single use bit of glass. Could you get a roll away drainer or one of the Joseph ones? Put it away when you don’t need it. More work surface. Shame the next door cupboard cannot be used for a second sink.

The cupboards either side are the washing machine and dishwasher so I can’t use space from them unfortunately and there’s no room in the run on that wall to change much around there.

In our utility we put in one large sink and use a roller drainer on top. It’s a blanco and although it’s super large they may do a smaller one?

The Franke Roller Mat drainer sits on the worktop. It is stainless steel strips with rubber grooves. They collect the water and it drains into the sink. It doesn’t stack anything but replicated draining groves. It rolls up when you don’t want it. The Joseph one is a bit more substantial.

I feel using space for a drainer limits its use. Sinks like the Franke Box make use of space. We have a white ceramic built on sink with drainer in our London kitchen. I think I would prefer that to black glass. I think Franke do them.

I have one of the glass sinks, looks lovely but I wouldn't get another one. (had it 18 months, but looking to replace it with a normal stainless steel one. The grooves aren't deep enough on the drainer, so have to have a mat under the drainer or the water just pools over onto the worksurface. We often have pools of water on the worksurface (sink side) as if water has splashed onto the top of the sink anywhere, it just falls off the flat surface onto the work surface. I just use white vinegar to keep any limescale at bay.

I have two sinks one for washing and the other for draining. I find them so useful. I use the drainage one for all sorts when it's empty.

I would just get a normal steel sink, there are some good designs.
Blanco do this one (Axis) with a glass chopping board that can slide across.

I actually own one of those but it’s the corner version. Not keen on the glass. Too slippery for chopping in my view. It’s in a holiday house and we store the chopping board!

The Franke Box with wooden chopping boards are better!

Yes I could I suppose with a bit if rejigging of pipework and things. Just trying to make it as simple as possible as I quite like the layout at the minute, just not the units, or the dreadful, dented, single stainless steel sink!

These might be better. Loads to choose from.

I have exactly the same black glass/ss sink unit in my new kitchen. it is almost a year old and I love it .....have had no problems at all. No chips or damage at all. I agree that using Viakal keeps it looking beautifully shiny. No marks at all.
Ive had the black composite and they are problematic as they get water marks and I found it very difficult to remove these.

Have you looked at compact laminate worktops? Cheaper than solid surfaces such as quartz or granite but you can have under mount sinks etc.

Here is a photo of my one year old black glass/ss sink unit. It’s immaculate ... v easy to clean with Viakal. I have it set into Wren’s best laminate (Matt slate look). With a Hot Tap (Vellamo) so no need for a kettle. I am delighted with the sink unit.

That looks fab! I also have hot water tap envy... that’s something I’m trying to work out if I can justify the cost of.
