Looking for ideas for our open plan kitchen/diner/lounge - can't decide between herringbone or straight plank.

Would love to see anyone's wood flooring (what has my life become? 😂)

Please come show me, don't be shy!

Make sure it’s wood, our laminate looks awful after 4 years.

jitterbugintomybrain · 20/01/2021 20:51

Ok thanks Notdaddy, It will be wood.

We have reclaimed scaffold boards as our floor. It looks less orange in real life, this pic was taken after oiling. We love it it's solid and feels warm. There isn't an obvious repeat pattern in the planks which I am not keen on, and we dont have to be precious with it. But if you like things looking perfect it's not the floor for you.

They look great, would they work with underfloor heating?

We just renovated with oiled hardwood block parquet, which I prefer to herringbone, if you aren't entirely decided.

Can't take the credit was already like this when we moved in but don't think we will ever find something like it!

Sorry I have no idea regarding underfloor heating.

There are some really good floors on here @star1459 love the fact the cat is so neatly stood on one of the diamonds.

We had a great kitchen and bathroom fitter who we used for our first and second houses which needed a lot of work. He had a really good eye and refused point blank to allow us to install wood floors in our second kitchen.
He showed us wood effect tiles from this company and we have never looked back. Underfloor heating works well and they are bomb proof.

Installed a really high quality oiled oak in the hallway and living room and it marked with water, pram marks, all kinds. Looked fairly aged after two years of use so I totally took his point that high traffic areas around a sink or island, spillages under a table etc would make it a chore to look after. He totally read the room that we were never going to find the time to wax it regularly by hand.

This is ash parquet 😍
Lovely! Think I want it slightly darker and probably oak.

Thanks, Tread softly. I've asked friends who have engineered wood and theirs looks good as new still after 5 years, even with kids so am still tempted.

This is ours - engineered oak (lacquered) - more "blond" than the photo suggests (not yellow / orange in real life). Been down 4 years now (busy household, 3 children) still looks great.

I do like the Herringbone effect though, think maybe it'll date quicker than "normal" flooring.

Don't like tiles personally so its been perfect for us.

That looks good and like new, Africa. What colour is it please? That is my worry that it will date if I get herringbone, but I do like it. Also because it's a large area we are flooring, wonder if herringbone will break it up better.

BananaPie · 21/01/2021 15:33

@ComtesseDeSpair where did you get the block parquet out of interest? I was searching for exactly this earlier this week.

Africa2go · 21/01/2021 16:57

@jitterbugintomybrain not sure on the precise colour, it probably had a name but I can't remember, sorry, It was brushed and matt lacquered, a brand called Kahrs.

Smallgoon · 21/01/2021 19:03

Engineered wood. Went for a distressed oak.

Then sanded, sealed and oiled.

Tonguetied · 21/01/2021 19:32

I've got herringbone engineered oak from V4 flooring in 'Frozen Umber'. We love it.
