Looking for ideas for our open plan kitchen/diner/lounge - can't decide between herringbone or straight plank.

Would love to see anyone's wood flooring (what has my life become? 😂)

I really wouldn’t put wood in the kitchen (possibly not in the dining room either if you have small kids). It will get wrecked.

We have tiled in the kitchen / hall / diner / bathrooms but solid wood everywhere else. Whilst it’s really hard wearing it marks if it gets water drops, oil or spills on it.

One not in

Original parquet block here, 1970s. It’s battered but I love it. It had faded back to the blonde wood in the photo(was awful cherry stain when I discovered it under the carpet). An area had lifted and warped so I replaced it, sanded the lot and re-stained with the Walnut in the pic during the first lockdown

You're lucky having the original! Looks good, I like the light colour too.

@jitterbugintomybrain sadly I had to go darker as the new replacement patch would’ve stuck out like a sore thumb, but the dark is so much easier to keep clean!

I love this thread. The darker wood is my dining room, and the lighter wood is the guest bedroom.
