Lego figure stuck down sink drain

One of my kids lego men has dropped down the sink, initially it was close enough that I could try the superglue on a stick trick to pull it back up. However DH, in his wisdom, decided to use the stick to try and pull it up before I could do this. Of course, that's pushed it down further, into some gunk thats hiding there so superglue will no longer work.

DH tried to take the pipe apart to get the lego with no luck. He thinks we should just leave it as water is draining ok but I'm feeling anxious that it might he a mistake and we'll end up with problems further down the line. Should I just call in a plumber and be done with it?

Try Mr Muscle drain cleaner. It’s basically caustic soda and will dissolve it.

Loofah01 · 20/01/2021 11:20

It won’t dissolve it.

You need to unscrew the pipe work and trap so find something that will bind around it well (a rubber glove works) and try that. If you leave it it will eventually block anyway

Ilovemaisie · 20/01/2021 11:36

Contact Lego customer services to get a replacement. Much easier.

VinylDetective · 20/01/2021 11:39

@Loofah01, it will. That shit dissolves everything!

Ilovemaisie · 20/01/2021 11:44

Oh wait... do you want the sink fixed rather than rescuing Lego Dude ?
That I can't help you with Grin

Chumleymouse · 20/01/2021 12:42

It won’t dissolve hard plastic !!! Otherwise it would dissolve the plastic pipe and waste trap 🙄. Jesus some people 🍩

Chumleymouse · 20/01/2021 12:43

And maybe even the plastic bottle it comes in ?

PigletJohn · 20/01/2021 13:05

post a photo of the plughole from above, and the trap from below.

All pumbing comes apart.

You will also need a bucket, sponge and rubber gloves.

InTheCludgie · 20/01/2021 13:10

We're knee deep in lego here so no need to get a replacement Grin Pigletjohn I'm hopeless with plumbing and DH has already tried, I would sooner call in a plumber if it does need to come out

If it dissolved the Lego it would dissolve the pipe as well!

Indeed. Can you imagine the tens of thousands of people with dissolved waste traps from using Mr Muscle? Hilarious.

OP, there is a small chance, if there is a lot of hair in the trap, you could pull it up with one of these:

www.amazon.co.uk/FlexiSnake-Drain-Millipede-Hair-Cleaning/dp/B00871R9Z8/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=drain+snake&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1611156705&sr=8-12

The handle twists. If there is hair in there, there is a slim chance it might catch the figure as well. Other than that it's time to take the trap off.

I had to laugh at you post OP, I recently had some taps replaced, my plumber called me in to the family bathroom, he looked a bit bemused and said he found a calpol spoon & rocks in the sink trap! The joys of parenthood!

InTheCludgie · 21/01/2021 18:09

Roselilly yes random things get found in random places for sure when kids are about! Thanks everyone for your replies, will call plumber tomorrow

Sink traps have two chunky screw fitting clamps on the end, they might be stiff but should unscrew by hand, you can then clear out the pipe, rescue Lego guy and carefully screw the trap back on. There are loads of youtube videos explaining what to do.

TheGreatWave · 21/01/2021 20:44

As long as you have a bucket underneath it isn't too hard to sort out the trap.

When I was much younger than I am now I thought the overflow hole was for old soap so I just kept sticking little bits of soap in there. Mum wasn't too pleased when she discovered it. Grin

Salome61 · 21/01/2021 22:30

Has anyone got a Vax cleaner you could borrow? Might be able to 'suck' it up?

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 21/01/2021 22:43

Turn both nuts to the right. Wear rubber gloves to give more grip, with bucket under trap

TartanCurtains · 21/01/2021 23:01

I have bookmarked this thread just so I can find out if Lego dude gets saved 😁

IthinkIm · 21/01/2021 23:10

It's easy to undo the trap.

Post a photo and we piglet John will talk you through it Grin

sleepyhead · 21/01/2021 23:24

I've had success in the past with a similar situation using two knitting needles to grab the object a bit like chopsticks, but it depends how far down it is.

Ilovemaisie · 22/01/2021 08:06

Tartan yes I need to know if he makes it out alive....
Thinking of you Lego Dude GrinFlowers
