Lego figure stuck down sink drain

One of my kids lego men has dropped down the sink, initially it was close enough that I could try the superglue on a stick trick to pull it back up. However DH, in his wisdom, decided to use the stick to try and pull it up before I could do this. Of course, that's pushed it down further, into some gunk thats hiding there so superglue will no longer work.

DH tried to take the pipe apart to get the lego with no luck. He thinks we should just leave it as water is draining ok but I'm feeling anxious that it might he a mistake and we'll end up with problems further down the line. Should I just call in a plumber and be done with it?

I'll have another go at rescuing the lego man on Sunday, DH is working 12 hour shifts until then and I'm on my own with the kids. Will update!

Any change a plunger might bring it up so you would be able to grasp it with something?

TartanCurtains · 25/01/2021 21:33

What happened to the Lego dude?!

InTheCludgie · 26/01/2021 10:10

Still there! I said to DH we should have another try but he said he wasn't actually able to undo the u-pipe Hmm. We don't have a wrench so need to see if I can borrow one off the neighbour if he has one

@PigletJohn

post a photo of the plughole from above, and the trap from below.

All pumbing comes apart.

You will also need a bucket, sponge and rubber gloves.

still true.

pigletjohn this is the view down the plughole. Unfortunately I can't do a pic of the trap as I can't move the sink base due to crap finger grip and DH isn't here atm

Any chance is the the Lego Miner Man? If so he should be able to extract himself from there.

(It would be ironic if he is the Lego Plumber Man and he is stuck Blush)

InTheCludgie · 26/01/2021 15:35

Twoleftsocks I think he may have been a fisherman, am sure he was dressed in all yellow! Plus the fact he fell overboard from a lego boat may give weight to the idea Grin

Oh, I see it's a pop-up waste, with no grille to catch legomen.

You might consider changing it to a plug, when you notice that it leaks.

No screw on the top, so you just undo the two large plastic nuts on the trap underneath. Dry rubber gloves probably give enough grip to turn them by hand. On reassembly, clean the threads with a toothbrush first, and lubricate with WUL or , better, white silicon plumbers grease.

When you see how disgustingly filthy the trap is, you might consider putting it in the dishwasher.

PigletJohn · 26/01/2021 17:59

BTW a useful tool for you is a rubber strap wrench, also called a Boa.

Not expensive, they are in hardware stores, DIY sheds, and motorists shops, and Ebay. Maybe get a small and a medium one. They are also useful for opening jars and bottles, the covers on taps, and dismantling telescopes and binoculars. If you have weak grip, do you have anything for opening jars?

They can also be used on some large metal nuts, but this will tear the rubber.

Changechangychange · 27/01/2021 01:34

Just take the trap off and take it out! Two minute job.

InTheCludgie · 27/01/2021 20:50

Thanks will look into a boa and see how I get on
