Anyone else just waiting for a property to come on the market?

We sold our house last month and around the same time pulled out of our purchase (for legal reasons) and we we are now living with family. We have the proceeds from our sale in the bank and we are now just waiting for something to come up!

I know that it could be a while, and nothing over the last few weeks because of Christmas. But it's so frustrating! Anyone else in the same position?

I do have my heart set on a particular road, which is probably quite stupid. The houses do come up 2 or 3 times per year, and would probably be in budget. It's hard to know what to do though if something else comes up in the meantime. Twist or stick! It's going to be a long few weeks/months...

I would post letters through the doors of any houses you might be interested as its one road you want detailing the fact that you are in a good position - catch them before they go on the market.

Whatam · 01/01/2021 00:55

I agree. Post through the doors if you are after one road.
We have had several through our door in the last one year.

notanotherlockdownsurely · 01/01/2021 07:37

I feel your pain. I sold in July and couldn't find anything I liked in my price range until September. I've now exchanged and complete next week
FYI I originally didn't consider the house as it wasn't in my right move searches for price ( many thousand over)
However I could see it hadn't been sold in two months and, after a lot of back and forth, the vendors accepted my offer which was £50,000 less than it had been originally.
So maybe have a look at houses outside of your price range?

Neenan · 01/01/2021 07:47

Yes, DD desperate for first home. Stamp duty sent the cost of a house @200k to over 225k last year even though the stamp duty break wasn’t relevant for FTB.

Now nothing is coming for sale and the odd one that does is grossly overpriced from 10 months ago.

Nonamesavail · 01/01/2021 07:49

Yes. Nothing suitable in the area :(

Starseeking · 01/01/2021 07:57

With Christmas and New Year now out of the way, I think there'll be a good few properties coming on in the next few weeks so sit tight OP.

Does putting notes through doors work? I've thought about doing this when we sell our house, as there's certain houses in about 5 roads of a specific area that I'd like to live in.

PurBal · 01/01/2021 08:05

Yes. Nothing suitable in the area.

SendHelp30 · 01/01/2021 08:08

@Starseeking it worked for us!

Starseeking · 01/01/2021 09:24

Thanks @SendHelp30. I don't want to hijack OP's thread with my questions about it, so nearer the time I'm ready, I'll create my own post to ask about how to go about doing thatSmile

OUB1974 · 01/01/2021 10:14

Don't worry @Starseeking, I don't mind!

Thanks everyone, we were going to have a drive up there today and see if there are any more roads around. Actually, we out our old house on the market after we had an advertising note from the estate agents. We'd been thinking about it anyway but had them around straight away when we got the note...and had 3 offers on the first day!

Will also widen the search slightly. We are (probably, dependant on price) cash buyers with no chain, so good buyers!

We are in this position. Sold our house 3 months ago, taking advantage of the increased price/fast market but haven’t found anything so in rented short term (with 2 kids!!). We viewed over 30 properties in 2020, annoyingly missed out on two which totally fit the bill (as our house wasn’t on market at that time) which prompted us to market ours (went under offer within 10 days) but nothing since!!! Have to be out of this rented (renting from a friend) by end March though there is a slight possibility of keeping it until end May and we don’t want to take on a years lease for elsewhere as Sod’s law as soon as we do, the house we want to buy will crop up!

Just to add to the stress I’m also selling my BTL property (which we can’t move into as miles away) at same time (though thankfully we don’t need proceeds from this to buy our new family home).

We are going to take a walk this arvo and post some notes through doors of places we like the look of!

Pepperxo · 01/01/2021 15:47

Waiting but everything is grossly overpriced we are going to rent our property out so no chain.
But even new builds people that are a year old are wanting an extra 25k than what they paid.
It's crazy so we are waiting to see what comes on.

dinkydino123 · 05/01/2021 12:49

Yes, we are waiting too! I feel as though I'm checking RM every 5 mins at the moment. Just have to hope that the right place comes up soon. Good luck!

Outnumbered99 · 05/01/2021 13:35

@starseeking worked for me, we put notes through about 50 houses and got ours that way

Jarstastic · 05/01/2021 17:44

Same. Been in rental since September. Nothing coming up :-(

pissoffwhydontyou · 05/01/2021 17:49

I'm up for sale , but nothing coming onto the market in the area I'm interested in

GenderApostate19 · 05/01/2021 18:46

My DD is desperate to find somewhere, their tenancy is up in April - there isn’t a single 4 bed house in the area they want, not even a 3 bed with a loft conversion.
They were shafted by covid last year when lenders pulled all the high ltv deals, now they have the extra deposit , all the houses have gone.
They can move into my late Fil’s house rather than renew the rental house but it’s not ideal, although it will save them £800 a month in rent and save us £150 a month in Council tax.

burntpinky · 06/01/2021 07:37

We’ve bombed about 20 houses with letters and are going to do same this weekend. We had one chap come out when DH was trying to find the postbox who said the house was getting too much for him so he might contact us I suppose. We spotted another we LOVED and did some research online and seems it is rented until end March so rang agent to see if they could find out if people would be willing to sell so waiting fo hear on that.

We have been told we have to move out end March now, despite renting from a friend, as they have someone who wants house long term. So am now in a panic but we mustn’t panic buy. We just don’t want to disrupt the kids too much again or waste money on rent but the biggest waste would be if we buy the wrong property in a panic.

burntpinky · 06/01/2021 10:30

Gah, they don’t want to sell the house we loved. Boo hiss. Going to be a busy weekend of leafleting!

Keepthechangeyafilthyanimal1 · 16/01/2021 15:22

Have any of you had any luck?

I posted a similar thread end of December and have still had NOTHING suitable come up in my area at all. Plenty of 4 beds out of our price range but no 3 beds at all!

GinandGingerBeer · 16/01/2021 16:27

We're in the same position.
Prices seem to have shot up again! We viewed one today which according to zooplankton has increased in value by 20k (5%) in the last 3 months. Shock
It's a no go. Too much £ and not big enough.
We need to be out of our house by end of feb. (Sold it last October and our buyers have been great) We haven't got a rental either.
So fed up!
I feel we'll lose so much money. Moving twice/paying rent & possible storage too.

GinandGingerBeer · 16/01/2021 16:31

Wtf is zooplankton? GrinGrinGrin

yearinyearout · 16/01/2021 16:52

Dd is searching for her first home, but it seems like every one that comes on the market has dozens of people after it. The estate agents local to where she's looking don't seem very efficient which doesn't help.

Two weeks ago she saw one she loved the look of, rang up and they said they were fully booked for viewings, so she asked to be kept informed in case any viewings became available. This week it's being advertised again but they didn't let her know and now they have a load of viewings booked in again!

Keepthechangeyafilthyanimal1 · 16/01/2021 18:46

It’s so frustrating isn’t it. I’ve heard that houses prices are due to drop this year, can they please hurry up and start dropping then Grin maybe some of the houses that are just slightly outside of our price bracket will become attainable. We are stuck renting in the meantime, have a deposit sat in the bank ready to go and want a bigger house so we can hopefully start TTC!

OUB1974 · 16/01/2021 21:28

Nothing in the area we need one. Well there are two, but one is too small and the other has tenants until March. So fed up of waiting!
