Who's planning a new kitchen in 2021 ?

... following from the massively helpful 2020 thread. I'm planning a brand new extension with kitchen and utility. Deciding between HKOC and Units Online. HKOC took 2 days to provide a quote, still waiting for Units Online after 2 weeks and numerous calls..

I am! Have our second meeting with our architect on Wednesday and hoping to finalise details of the kitchen extension then. I'm hoping we'll be in a position to get our kitchen ordered mid Feb what with all the permissions etc. I feel like I spend my life on Houzz and this board!

chillibeansauce · 14/12/2020 22:24

It's a fantastic source of inspiration, but I feel all houzzed out at the moment. All the recommended builders are saying earliest they can start is June 2021 where I live (North West).

Me too. No extension but totally gutting the kitchen and utility. I've got a good idea of what I want. My big problem is my wonky 200yr old listed schoolhouse 😆

Hopefully.... we have the kitchen cost but got to get the extension cost to go with and that's the scary bit...

That's the stage I'm more or less at too. Have had the first builder round, three more to go by mid Jan. What are your builders stating as earliest start date ?

@chillibeansauce well they were saying March but that was weeks ago and we haven't agreed it yet so imagining much later

positivelynegative · 15/12/2020 22:07

Just ordered ours and paid the deposit. Hopefully fitting 1st March

positivelynegative · 15/12/2020 22:08

We’ve had it planned for over a year!

skippy67 · 15/12/2020 22:52

I'm the OP on the 2020 thread, and I'm still planning my new kitchen. Cheers Covid...

Yes but it involves building work too and we haven't been out to tender yet. Inclined to go with DIY Kitchens - have simple taste and they look good.

I am. Planning a reasonably big extension, and like OP I feel houzzed out at the moment. We’re still at planning permission stage, so who knows when work can actually start. I’ve pretty much lost hope that we’ll be done by the end of 2021.

I got my long awaited Units Online quotation yesterday. I still need to get counter top quotations in, but pleased that it's came in slightly under what I was expecting. Does anyone have any great tips re countertop suppliers ? Not sure if I want stone or mix of stone and wood yet.

I'm planning on knocking through the kitchen and dining room to make one large kitchen dinner so no extension. I haven't had anyone around for quotes yet but I've priced up my kitchen with DIY kitchens.

jakeyboy1 · 16/12/2020 19:16

Re counter tops I'm in the West Midlands and I know a lot of people have been out to suppliers on industrial estates who supply the big kitchen companies and have been direct to cut out the middle man. Worth a look in your area.

sluj · 16/12/2020 19:19

We are half way through the kitchen extension and will probably get our kitchens from DIY and fit them ourselves. I will need a trip to Yorkshire though to settle on style and colour, though thinking shaker again.

CrustyChrimbo · 16/12/2020 19:27

We are planning a new kitchen this year. Sadly we had to scrub plans for a very modest extension because our access (mid-terrace on a steep-hill with no garden access) send the price WAAAAYYYY too high.
We're right now just praying that our 13 year old appliances make it another 6 months while we fight about it plan.

BTW - OP, what is HKOC?

Qc16 · 16/12/2020 20:15

HKOC is Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch- they also have a showroom in Claygate. We’ve ordered a kitchen from them having looked at other more expensive options for a bespoke kitchen.

Stepintochristmas2020 · 16/12/2020 20:20

We have started a new build. Were up to floor build so will hopefully have the kitchen going in in late summer/autumn 2021. I have the kitchen picked and priced with one company, will also look for a second price though from someone else.

moostermum · 19/12/2020 20:03

Yes and we picked some colours initially. Looks bad doesn't it? Too grey. Please help with colours

sluj · 19/12/2020 20:22

I love grey but I am so nervous about a huge investment in a grey kitchen which I fear may look dated too quickly. I know I should just buy what I like but its not quite a simple as that, is it?
That kitchen looks lovely but it does look a bit like the image is in black and white.

lboogy · 19/12/2020 21:46

Is an extractor fan a must for an open plan kitchen dining space? I have an extractor and hardly ever used it.

We are moving house soon and I want to plan out an open plan lay out again. Just wondering if an extractor is worth the expense again

IndecentFeminist · 19/12/2020 21:56

We will be. Extension half way through being built so will need a kitchen at some point. Probably going to go through DIY kitchens. Don't have the budget for it yet regardless but enjoying planning it!
