Also, why don’t we have those pulleys for laundry any more? They seem like a much better solution for drying clothes than a clothes horse (which takes up valuable floor space!)
we have a similar thing in our utility room.
It is a long wooden bar across one end of the room, hanging form the ceiling. I hang everything on hangers on it that will fit. Underneath is a clothes horse with knickers and socks. It is so space efficient that I can hange 4 loads of washing easily on one small space.

I once saw a house with a long staircase with open space above right up to the top floor. They had put on one of those pully drying racks into that space. You didn't notice it at all form downstairs, and only from above when you were about to go down stairs. Such a clever use of space!
