Came across this randomly.
I love it. I don’t know anything about the area but I’d love to live in a house like this.
A proper old fashioned house that has not been modernised to look like every other house.
Check our that bathroom !

It’s a wonderful shell to build on and some features could be saved but the decor is hideous and it’s a money pit. It will almost certainly need absolutely everything from plumbing to electrics to roof to windows needing attention before to even begin to try and decorate

steppemum · 11/12/2020 07:39

I think it is hideous.

The carpets make my head hurt.
The wood panelling in the hall isn't lovely it looks cheap and tacky.
The bath is awful.
The colour clashes are horrible (green panels and avocado baths, blue walls just the wrong blue for the dining room chairs)
The shiny wallpaper is ugly

I don't the current trend for over modernising things. I like houses to look different, but this isn't a lovely traditional house, it is a tasteless mess.

My Granny's house was unmodernised for years, pulley for washing in the kitchen, 1950s cupboards, patterned carpets etc, but she always had style, so it wasn't a hideous colour clashing mess, it was a lovely traditional house.
And the Aga looks lovely (I love the colour) but it is a 2 door, in a 5 bed house, so tiny really.
And no garden. Not even a tiny bit. I don;t care how close the moors are, I would want to grow some veg and have space to sit outside.

steppemum · 11/12/2020 07:51

Funnily enough, I didn't blink at carpet in kitchen and bathroom. We only took the carpet out of our family bathroom last year (was there when we moved in) and we still have it in ensuite.
I grew up with carpets in kitchens

Zenithbear · 11/12/2020 08:00

Hideous decor. I wouldn't know where to start. It would cost a fortune to do it up.

picklemewalnuts · 11/12/2020 08:07

I love the house. I'm amazed they have managed to keep everything so clean and tidy, given its age.

I too noticed several rooms left out, and wonder if they are heaving with a life time's junk.

Perhaps two houseproud sisters lived there, keeping everything just so.

The bathroom worries me- I couldn't live with it, but couldn't destroy it either.

FreshfieldsGal · 11/12/2020 08:28

I love it! Love a house with lots of nooks and crannies. Aga is fab, as is the bathroom. I'd keep the bathroom suite as is, it's gorgeous. Makes a change to see a house not in the ubiquitous shades of grey.

justgeton · 11/12/2020 09:36

A stable.... don't see many semis with a stable 😊

Shenadoah · 11/12/2020 15:19

The floor plan reminds me of Cluedo!

steppemum · 11/12/2020 17:39

Actually there is a reasonably sized garden at one side, just realised from photos.

There is bags of potential here. Lots of quirky stor cupboards too (by kitchen, upstairs etc.

Fascinated as to why it has a double garage, shed and stable. I think the whole house was once one building.

Dowermouse · 11/12/2020 17:45

It'll get completely blinged out, lots of glossy tiles and plinth lighting.

Joynot · 11/12/2020 18:09

Some people have no imagination
I would love to get my hands on that house.
Just take up the carpets, lick of paint!
I’d knock down that greenhouse, extend the kitchen/store area, add a downstairs toilet/utility.
Maybe knock down those outbuildings, you’d have a massive back garden then.

Chumleymouse · 11/12/2020 18:25

I’d leave it just the way it is , it’s like a time capsule. It also looks very well kept.

fallfallfall · 11/12/2020 18:30

i can feel the cold damp draft from here...
i'd put work into the house but the yard looks too small to make much impact.

BaileysAndIceForOneplease · 11/12/2020 18:30

The walking stick hooked over the back of a kitchen chair has made me unutterably sad. It sums up why the house is for sale.

organisedmother · 11/12/2020 18:34

Oh my... can you even imagine having a carpet in a kitchen, Or even a worse a carpet in a kitchen plus children, the horror of what would be living in the carpet!!!

NewYearNewTwatName · 11/12/2020 19:44

NewYearNewTwatName · 11/12/2020 19:45

not sure where the random *thought came from

JustaPatioWithAspirations · 11/12/2020 20:01

Made me happy, thanks OP

elprup · 11/12/2020 20:30

it's so peaceful not living open plan.

I agree, I can’t stand open plan. When I view houses that have been made open plan I mentally factor in the cost of putting the old wall back in!

elprup · 11/12/2020 20:33

Also, why don’t we have those pulleys for laundry any more? They seem like a much better solution for drying clothes than a clothes horse (which takes up valuable floor space!)

Such a good observation @BaileysAndIceForOneplease Sad

merryhouse · 12/12/2020 12:18

the massive radiators! the pectranthus! the antimacassars! the carpet in the kitchen! the sink in the bedroom! those telephones by the bed! the gas fire and the tiled fireplace! the spindly furniture! the huge walnut wardrobe! the washbox! the square sink and taps!

JustaPatioWithAspirations · 12/12/2020 13:02

The what?
“pectranthus! the antimacassars”

merryhouse · 12/12/2020 13:07

pectranthus - the papery-leaved plant (on the edge of the hall photo)
