Now this is what I call a house!

Came across this randomly.
I love it. I don’t know anything about the area but I’d love to live in a house like this.
A proper old fashioned house that has not been modernised to look like every other house.
Check our that bathroom !

The bathroom suite and Aga are cool but none of it is in keeping with the period of the house. I had hoped from your description and the exterior photos that it would look like a proper Victorian interior but instead it’s just a 60s/70s time warp with those absolutely hideous fireplaces. Great bones though.

Chickychickydodah · 09/12/2020 22:00

The carpets and curtains are a bit scary but that could be made into a lovely house

SirGawain · 09/12/2020 22:12

Wuthering Heights!

gottakeeponmovin · 09/12/2020 22:14

Very expensive for what it is

Meredithgrey1 · 09/12/2020 22:15

Why do they have the dining room and sitting room in those positions? Surely you’d swap to have the dining room next to the kitchen, and the sitting room with the big curved window space.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 09/12/2020 22:18

F*ng hell. 475k?? You'd barely get a three-bed semi here for this money.

I cam actually buy it right now. This is mind-blowing (I've lived with SE prices too long)

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 09/12/2020 22:19

It’s fabulous! And the price is amazing, I love it, I hope whoever buys it doesn’t change that bath.

Bogardicia · 09/12/2020 22:25

Just such a change from the modern trend for all houses to look exactly the same.

Ironically, when this was decorated it would have been very similar to most other residential interiors.

We had those tiled fireplaces in a 50's property, some of them are older than that.

We currently have the wood panelled staircase and part of the hall, 30's house.

Lloyd Loom laundry basket I think?

I know! I just checked what I could get for GBP475k here. It’s a two bedroom bungalow with a tiny garden in a not great location. Can’t believe someone said it’s expensive for what it is, I need to move!!
SlopesOff · 09/12/2020 22:46

I would love a 20's bathroom, and a bath like that.

ODFOx · 09/12/2020 23:32

When I clicked on your link it showed the pictures but not the address and I had the strangest feeling of deja vu. I grew up in a house very like that inside.

Then I spotted the address and realised that I had a school friend on that street. I even stayed there one Easter break.
There's a moor and a wood within walking distance of the house. Back then there was also a cable car tram through the wood and a fairground with roundabouts and those boat swings where you face each other and pull the ropes to go higher. I'm off to google if it's all still there!
It was a lovely place. Thanks for the link OP; so many memories.

Shortfeet · 10/12/2020 01:14

@ODFOx that’s very cool !

I quite love it especially the bathroom....and agree about comparison with SE prices...ouch!
It reminds me of my grandparents. It's interesting how middle class tastes have changed over time, at one time floral carpets, tassel-fringed sofas and hung fires were considered perfectly usual.

BruceAndNosh · 10/12/2020 07:06

While it's a little..... unusual, I must say I'm very impressed at how clean the carpet is in the kitchen! I think of the state of my tiled floor if I leave it more than 3 days without washing it...

MRC20 · 10/12/2020 07:08

I love that house exactly as it is!

BefuddledPerson · 10/12/2020 07:08

Very nice, like something from Heartbeat. Only one bathroom in a house so large!

HaggieMaggie · 10/12/2020 07:21

I think it’s wonderful in a museum kind of way. I knew it was West Yorkshire as soon as I saw the stone. I couldn’t live in it as it is though, but all the period features would stay.

The garden isn’t an issue, it just needs the tarmac and old garages in the back digging up and landscaping. Plenty of garden at the front too and there’s a long drive for parking.

With the right planning, the grounds could be wonderful.

Ellmau · 10/12/2020 07:36

Always interesting to note which rooms they don't show pictures of - one of the reception rooms and three of the bedrooms are not pictured.

daisypond · 10/12/2020 07:38

Apart from the kitchen and bathroom, I don’t think it’s so very dated. My grandparents’ house - furnishing and decor - was exactly like that. And my parents’ house isn’t too far off either.

lovelemoncurd · 10/12/2020 07:38

I was going to ask if it was in Yorkshire? Lovely. I bet that bathroom cost a fortune at the time.

SmallYappyTypeDog · 10/12/2020 07:55

The big issue for me is that it won't just be the decor that's dated. The electrics, gas and plumbing will be too! You'd probably need to rip out a lot of stuff to bring it up to standard. I would try and keep as much as possible though- including that bath!

FastMovingLuxuryGoods · 10/12/2020 14:54

Oh that bath! Glorious.

Love the bath and sink, the blue Aga in the kitchen, the windows (especially the huge one over the front door) and the panelled hallway. Just fab.

NellyJames · 10/12/2020 15:26

@user1485291191, all of that is lovely but none of it is a substitute for a garden so sit in of a summer’s evening or chick the kids into for a run around. I’d never buy a house without a decent garden even if it was dramatically cheaper due to that.

Lurkingforawhile · 10/12/2020 15:28

That's worth about the same as my very ordinary three bed semi! Having said that it looks freezing!
