Staring a new thread!

Come and say hi 👋

OP posts:
Silkiechickscat · 06/02/2021 13:23

We did all the moving and packing oursleves, if that thought occurs to anyone just think a bit harder Grin

Fleurchamp · 06/02/2021 14:31

@Silkiechickscat errrm, definitely not! We did that once back when we first married - we had a van and some friends with cars. Total nightmare and the amount we spent hiring the van (which we managed to ding on a post) and the beers and takeaway for our friends that night probably wasn't too dissimilar to hiring a man with a van for the whole day 🤦🏻‍♀️

BrieAndChilli · 06/02/2021 15:20

Those that have completed and got the keys - how has your move been?
We got the keys yesterday and we knew there was work to do, filling in Few holes, painting etc but today it just seems like the place is filthy and falling to bits! I know it’s what we expected but it’s all a bit overwhelming today! We have a couple of weeks to get it sorted before we move in and I’m sure it will be lovely when we are finished (although we can’t afford to replace the bathroom yet so that will have to stay decrepit for the moment.
They didn’t clean (even though it’s been empty for months) which I think is the worst thing as I’m having to Hoover up random crap.

Fleurchamp · 06/02/2021 17:10

@BrieAndChilli that's disappointing, sorry.

I must admit I have had buyers remorse in each of the properties I have bought - somehow it all seems smaller, dirtier and unkempt than when I viewed.

Hopefully with a bit of elbow grease and with all your things in it will feel better.

CherryDocsInYrBalls · 06/02/2021 23:00

Why don't you hire a cleaner to do an "end of tenancy" type clean? Worth every penny, especially if you're not moving in on completion day

Silkiechickscat · 06/02/2021 23:07

We moved in here a couple of years ago and it was the first one we've bought that was clean and in good condition inside.

If you have the spare cash I would be tempted to chuck out the rubbish (or at least move it to one room) and hire a cleaner. We just used one for 5 hours at old house and even that made quite a difference.

Winterwaves · 07/02/2021 10:07

Last Tuesday we found out our buyer was having to sort out an indemnity for the windows on the place he was selling. How long would that take to do. I guess he has to be sent something to sign, send it to his solicitor, they send it to the other solicitors, they send it to the buyer to agree? And then communicate back that it's accepted?

Fleurchamp · 07/02/2021 10:21

@Winterwaves an indemnity shouldn't take more than a couple of days to a week. If it is a bog standard policy it should be less than that, might be longer if the policy is bespoke.

tanguero · 07/02/2021 10:38

Am I alone (as a buyer) in not bothering with searches ? Cash buyer, know the street, and the area, couldn't see the point of spending £170 on a Local Authority search.

Winterwaves · 07/02/2021 11:15

@fleurchamp OK great, we were hoping to exchange last Friday but on the Tuesday we were told our buyers needed to sort out an indemnity for their sale. It's been radio silence since then but it sounds like it could take this long to sort. It's the lack of communication that kills me. You don't mind waiting when you know what the hold up is but our estate agent and solicitor couldn't get hold of our buyers EA or solicitor.

ethelredonagoodday · 08/02/2021 10:25

Morning all

Hoping for some news on our exchange this week. Fingers crossed for progress for us all.

MotherofHeathens · 08/02/2021 10:52

Morning all,

After the best part of a week hanging on we've finally been told our buyer ISN'T pulling out! The relief is unbelievable.

Having spoken to the EA again this morning I actually get the feeling that while the buyer is a bit of CF (and a PITA) she is actually under the impression that we're being awkwardly slow when really it's the delays between the (massively snowed under) solicitors. We're responding within hours but it's actually taking days, if not weeks, for responses to get through. Anyway, for now we need to rearrange the fence installation and EICR that we put on hold due to her faffing...

MotherofHeathens · 08/02/2021 11:13

Spoke too soon... she is a CF and still wants a reduction in price. Angry Considering £500 as a 'gesture' towards repointing the chimney, I've told the EA I won't be responding straight away because she kept us hanging on for so long.

ldnirish · 08/02/2021 11:38

@mother that's rubbish, sounds like a real CF and I hope things start going smoothly for you soon.

We are hopefully going to exchange today, but I do worry it's nearly lunch time and we haven't heard a peep!

PowerslidePanda · 08/02/2021 13:24

Impatiently waiting for news now. Our buyers searches are due back tomorrow. Their own sale isn't directly linked to us and should be exchanging any day (but that's been the case for months). Hate not knowing what's going to happen - we might exchange this week, or we might not for another month, based on how things have gone thus far!

ldnirish · 08/02/2021 13:51

We've just found out we aren't exchanging until this Friday.

We really wanted to exchange before booking our storage unit but now I think we'll have to take yet another leap of faith if we want to get everything done in time!

catfeets · 08/02/2021 14:29

@ldnirish yes probably best to go for it anyway and keep your fingers crossed.

We put my DP's belongings in storage early to get ready for his sale. Then it fell through. Twice.
My house went on the market and we took on a second unit to clear space here and we're still waiting for completion 6 months later. We've been paying for 2 storage units for over a year now and it's cost us a small fortune.
We have no further news about exchange and it's driving us mad. Cannot wait to clear those units and see what a state our furniture is in.

Winterwaves · 08/02/2021 17:42

We finally got some news that... There is no bloody news. We are really hoping for exchange this Friday as the is nothing left to do but the other solicitors seem to be so slow!! We have postponed our storage unit to this weekend but now it's feeling unlikely, not sure I can postpone it by a week again.

Catastrophie · 08/02/2021 18:28

I am joining the thread as losing my sanity.

We sold STC in September. We found a house quickly, got to exchange then seller withdrew from the market. No problem, found a new house. Then lost our buyer but found another within a day. Then had to pull out of new property due to issues with planning consents.

Now have found a third house with offer accepted and I’m so paranoid it will happen again. The surveyor tried to arrange access today but couldn’t get hold of the vendor and I’m so worried it’s because they want to pull out Sad. At the viewing they were adamant they wanted to complete before stamp duty as well.

catfeets · 08/02/2021 19:08

@Winterwaves same here. No news at all and I'm fed up of it. We decided to go ahead and try to book some vans anyway, but can't find the ones we need! All booked up now we've waited and waited.
I just hope to god we hear something soon as we can't start to pack in case it all falls through, my DP can't get any time off on leave so we're limited with time to pack and take things to storage and now the actual moving vans for the day are booked up.
I can't wait to get out of this bloody house. I'm counting down the days but I have been for months and find myself adding extra weeks on as we hear nothing to confirm our dates.

Winterwaves · 08/02/2021 19:39

Oh @Catastrophie that sounds horrendous!! What a nerve-wracking time for you, I'm not sure I would have coped. Everything crossed that this is it for you now!
@catfeets it's so stressful isn't it!! I started packing 2 weeks ago but then stopped when I realised an exchange date wasn't coming any closer, so now my house is full of boxes half full and it's so depressing! I think because we are in contact every day/every other day with EA and Solicitor I just expect others to be too Hmm

Autumnchill · 08/02/2021 20:27

We've exchanged today and moving tomorrow. I feel for any of you that are struggling. Our estate agents and solicitors have been brilliant.

Offer accepted End of October and then buyer couldn't get a mortgage as self employed but got another buyer within hours and everything has moved along nicely even with a mysterious buyer at the bottom of the chain suddenly appearing in January (Buyers EA said they were first time buyers when they weren't)

Good luck everyone

InescapableDeath · 09/02/2021 00:10

Well done people making progress. We heard today that our buyer’s sol has sent enquiries to ours now, just hoping they’re straightforward. We’ve been sent the contract to send for our purchase so that’s going ok.

@Badgerbadger22 how is yours doing?

Roselilly36 · 09/02/2021 06:43

Good luck today @Autumnchill many congrats Flowers

We complete & move on Thursday, honestly this is the most stressful thing I have done in years, not moved for nearly 18 years, so it’s a bit like labour you forget about it until you are doing it again!

My mind is in a constant state of have I done this & that.

Hopefully we will be happy in our new home, as I don’t think I will have the energy to move again for quite some time.

Surely the system could have a long overdue revamp and to make it less fraught.

Good luck to all on the thread as whatever stage you are in the process, you will get there eventually.

catfeets · 09/02/2021 07:57

@Winterwaves we're calling the estate agent or solicitor every day too but no one else in the chain seems bothered. If our buyer had pestered her crap solicitor more I think this would have been less stressful. We spent 2 months panicking over the questions for the survey results her solicitor said they were sending - turns out there weren't any (although I wouldn't be surprised if they suddenly turn up and push this back even further).
I'll be gutted if this drags on into March.
