Opinions on this house exterior, please! Ugly or not?

Could I do a quick opinion poll on the outside of this semi, please? I believe it was built in the mid-1950s.

My problem is that I've only ever lived in tall-ceilinged Victorian or Edwardian houses so I'm struggling to understand the architecture of it. If you drove past this house, what would you think?

I like the house for the location (right next to the school we want for DS1) and has huge potential for renovation - we'd put a rear and loft extension on. So we could configure it exactly how we want, and hopefully resale value should be pretty solid because of its location. It's really just the look of it that I'm questioning.

I really like the look of it, have seen much more uglier houses!

ThePinkGuitar · 05/11/2020 16:08

I think it’s lovely op not ugly in the slightest

Playdoughcaterpillar · 05/11/2020 16:09

It's really fine, not ugly and not wow. All the other reasons to buy are sound and how much time do you actually spend looking at the front of your house? I don't love my house from the outside but inside is great and thats where I spend my time.

cheeseismydownfall · 05/11/2020 16:15

It is a perfectly pleasant looking house. If budget allowed, I think there is quite a bit you could do to further improve it (non-white timber windows, for example, and a lovely solid wood door).

My concern would be the quality of the sound proofing in the adjoining wall. that's what I'd focus my attention on.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 05/11/2020 16:17

Nice.

grool · 05/11/2020 16:17

I think it looks lovely, I like traditional looking houses.

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/11/2020 16:18

Nice!

ohidoliketobe · 05/11/2020 16:20

I'd want to change the doors but other that, perfectly fine looking house

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2020 16:24

It looks perfectly pleasant to me too, it’s not a wow house, nor is it ugly, it’s just a pleasant looking normal house.

emmathedilemma · 05/11/2020 16:26

Definitely not ugly, it's quite interesting looking.

AdelaideK · 05/11/2020 16:27

I think it looks nice.

MrsSpringfield · 05/11/2020 16:28

Not ugly.
1950s are not as aesthetically pleasing as victorians / edwardians but they have a lot going for them! Easy to get planning approved, lend themselves well to extensions (generally). As well as being well sound proofed and easier to heat. Or so I have found. I'm actually pleased to no longer live in a Victorian property. No more mice for one thing!GrinI think 1950s will become more desirable.

fabulousathome · 05/11/2020 16:28

Definitely looks like a 50s house by the angle of the bay. Is there a piece of land to the left or an access road to garages? This may be more of an issue for you to look into.

As a house it's rather nice.

anxiousanxiety · 05/11/2020 16:28

It's really nice, especially if you imagine it without the net curtains!

Burnthurst187 · 05/11/2020 16:30

I like it apart from the tiles above the door

GertiMJN · 05/11/2020 16:31

Driving past, I wouldn't notice it (unless the neighbouring houses are completely different), because its not standout "wow" but nor is it at all ugly. There is absolutely nothing about it that would put me off.

NC4Now · 05/11/2020 16:31

I love it. I’m not keen on the driveway but it doesn’t massively offend me. I might put a painted wooden front door in too. But it’s a lovely house.

ClaireP20 · 05/11/2020 16:31

I actually think it's beautiful. I feel your pain though OP, I very recently moved to a house with an awful exterior, just to be near a great school. We have to do so much work on it..£650k for a 3 bed semi which needs work. Can't wait till I retire and move out of London.. anyways...the front of your house is really nice! X

senua · 05/11/2020 16:33

Nooooooooooo!

It's fine OP. Have you never seen a 1950s house before?Confused

ClaireP20 · 05/11/2020 16:33

Although quite lovely, I wonder if there is a way of removing the cladding and adding bricks ?

Graffitiqueen · 05/11/2020 16:36

It's lovely!!

areyoubeingserviced · 05/11/2020 16:38

I actually like it Op

bravotango · 05/11/2020 16:39

I think it's really nice!

Pickpick101 · 05/11/2020 16:39

Looks fine to me I'd replace the front doors maybe. Is it North London ?

JoJoSM2 · 05/11/2020 16:41

It’s ok but could be much improved with a real front door and nicer planting, especially by the facade. I don’t love the paving in front of the house either but that wouldn’t probably be too costly to change.

The roof looks weird? Like it isn’t properly tiled?
