New thread. Hopefully the last one for us!!

Well I’ve just had a positive Covid test. Self isolation until the 11th for me, and the 14th for DH/children. So if our offer isn’t accepted on the house we want, we won’t be able to look at any more until the middle of the month.

dinglethedragon · 02/11/2020 10:38

So I've put in an offer on the dream house, now catastrophising that the reason they haven't immediately got back to me is that it's been taken off the market - or they accept and want to move really fast so we don't get a final Xmas in the "family home" and I have to move all the stuff I want to get rid of but no charity shops open.....

I think I need a skip on standby. I've already got rid of tons of books - lots quite specialist from my career days - even oxfam have been a bit 🤨 with them, but they have to go..... and there are a couple of tall bookcases full left.

Baxdream · 02/11/2020 10:39

We're supposed to be exchanging today! Let's hope they manage to do it 🤞🤞🤞

NewHouseNewMe · 02/11/2020 10:55

@Diangled those are difficult circumstances too Flowers. It's definitely not worth selling to a "we buy any house" group although I understand why it's tempting in your circumstances. How long have you been on the market?

@ScottishDream
Get well soon!! I hope that Covid passes by with very few symptoms.

Diangled · 02/11/2020 11:40

@NewHouseNewMe we’ve been on for six weeks. I know I’m being impatient. Will give it another few weeks I think. So hard to try & think rationally at the moment.

@ScottishDream poor you! Hope the symptoms are mild for you.

@Baxdream 🤞🏻 for exchange today.

GreyPaw · 02/11/2020 11:45

Thank you all for the words of support, it's a new week and another viewing today. It takes me about 3 hours to get the house ready for a viewing and I'm totally exhausted so I cracked a bit when the EA called me to arrange another viewing for tomorrow and told them they'd have to fit them all in to two days a week. What with the lockdown and having to get out of the house, it's impossible to keep doing this on an as-and-when basis.

@baxdream, hoping your exchange is smooth and uneventful!

GreyPaw · 02/11/2020 11:47

@diangled, sorry to hear that you've got this particular challenge as well, it's overwhelming sometimes isn't it. The strain must be tough to take, hope you're ok.

Bells3032 · 02/11/2020 13:06

Looks like exchange still won't happen today. apparently it takes over a week for our Seller's seller to pick between two completion dates

Badgerbadger22 · 02/11/2020 13:28

Our vendor has changed his mind 🤦🏻‍♀️

Simonsaysitschristmas · 02/11/2020 13:45

@Badgerbadger22 I’m so confused what is happening with yours haha. Is this the man who had a filthy house last week and rejected your offer? Or is this a completely different house? I’m so sorry either way, house buying is so shitty Flowers

PointyMcguire · 02/11/2020 13:57

@Badgerbadger22 what happened with the dream house? I feel I’ve missed something.

Today has been full of chaos today. Our mortgage valuation was due to be a desktop valuation today, has now been uprated to a kerbside one that apparently can’t take place until December 2nd. Broker and mortgage company agree this seems late given where we are in the process so they’re looking into whether we can combine with our survey on the 9th.

Biggest hurdle is our short term rental that we’re due to move into on Friday got cancelled. It’s a family owned holiday rental run by a lettings company but we suspect they sent a blanket email to all who were booked in post lockdown kicking in. We have keys already so it should be fine, the in-laws are currently fighting the battle for us, but feel slightly terrified we may be homeless come Friday Confused

dinglethedragon · 02/11/2020 14:00

Well my offer was accepted - so it's a go on both fronts. Eek.

Badgerbadger22 · 02/11/2020 14:00

Yeah so it’s the messy bloke with the nice perfect (albeit disgusting) house. He’s belligerent - he’s accepted and rejected our offer twice now.

I think he wants more than his asking price! He’s had no other interest.

Anyway, he rejected our offer after accepting it. Sad

Pepperwand · 02/11/2020 14:02

I'm feeling really anxious about our chain given the lockdown news. Mainly just the uncertainty of it all. Our vendor must be bricking it, he lost his previous buyers during the last lockdown but we're still set on purchasing it if we can! We're just awaiting the results of our buyer's survey on our house and are worrying about whether they'll change their mind (FTBs). I know all this worrying is pointless but I can't help it.

Is it worthwhile contacting everyone (EAs, solicitor etc) just to reiterate we're still committed and will work towards exchange as quickly as we're able to or is that pointless?

PointyMcguire · 02/11/2020 14:19

@Pepperwand I can’t see it doing any harm. We followed up with everyone this morning just to see if there was an update on when we might be able to complete as we can’t to keep an open dialogue and make it clear we’re still forging ahead with everything.

Chronicallymothering · 02/11/2020 16:18

@Badgerbadger22 that's rubbish I'm sorry. Do you think lockdown made them change their mind, or are they thinking of trying to get more for the house?

Our home is half empty, the removals people have packed 60% of the house already.

The funds from the bank are with the solicitor ready for tomorrow. They have provided a final account, just need to get some sleep overnight before the day of move. It's been a whole year since we viewed a house and started this all. I have to say, paying for a pack and move service is a very civilised experience so far.

Chronicallymothering · 02/11/2020 16:19

@Pepperwand I would. No harm in overcommunicating in some quite weird circumstances.

graduatedbob · 02/11/2020 16:49

We have been quoted 3k for removals which is more than I expected. £400 of that is for packing. Eek. Does that sound reasonable?

Pepperwand · 02/11/2020 16:51

Thanks all, we actually heard back and our buyers have received the survey back with no issues raised so that's a massive relief. So now just waiting for searches and our survey on the house we're buying which is booked for 24 November..... really wish it was earlier to speed the process up. Everything just seems to take forever!

Lilothblos · 02/11/2020 17:04

@Badgerbadger22 so sorry to hear that - sounds like you've had such a stressful and unlucky time with it all. I suppose if they had gone ahead with it they would have been a nightmare to deal with and possibly changed their minds later...Is there any hope of finding another place or was that the last option?

On our own sale/purchase, we are now 10 weeks past the date we made our mortgage application and still no offer or indication of when we will get one. Should be a very straightforward application. Absolutely at the end of my tether!

Badgerbadger22 · 02/11/2020 17:06

Hi everyone, the vendor decided that he wanted more money to the disgusting filth pit has been delisted at £10k more!!

Unbelievable. Our estate agent said we had a lucky escape as he would have been awkward throughout Sad

We did find another house we liked but the area is a little dodgy.

Badgerbadger22 · 02/11/2020 17:08

I am so sorry for all my typos!!

“the vendor decided that he wanted more money for the disgusting filth pit and it has been relisted for £10k more!!”

I hope that makes more sense. I’m having huge problems with iOS autocorrect at the moment...

Bells3032 · 02/11/2020 17:10

@Badgerbadger22 so sorry to hear. but sounds like its for the best. good luck in your search!!

Rubyredroo · 02/11/2020 19:02

@Tomatoandbasil thanks, I will look in to that once our mortgage has been offered, don't want to risk any more hold ups.

@Badgerbadger22 thats awful but it definitely sounds like you had a lucky escape.

Bells3032 · 02/11/2020 19:58

Ach so we were on the verge of exchanging last week and our sellers sellers were just deciding on a completion date (we were flexible). Now it turns out she's decided to add a new property to the top of the chain as she wants to buy rather than go into rental as agreed. Apparently she can't do this under her divorce agreement so fingers crossed it will be sorted quickly.
