When we moved in we found out that the Sellers pulled coat hooks off the walls, took the bathroom mirrors, every lampshade, the washing line and EVEN the washing line post and prop!!!

Bought not bout😂

Our sellers were very late in moving out and were really only getting started on their removal when we turned up after 5pm.

They showed us round the house to let us see what they still had to pack. They said "obviously we're leaving the wardrobes". Not obvious to us - four bedrooms with wardrobes and none were built in. We didn't want them but it was so late in the day we just wanted the sellers gone so didn't argue. They also left two bookcases, a bathroom pedestal mat (euch), two sun loungers, a garden full of dog poo and a fridge freezer full of food including the biggest bit of salmon I've ever seen (it filled a whole freezer drawer). It probably cost them a fortune.

I don't think they intended to leave the loungers (they took the cushions 😂) or food but by 8pm when we were sitting on the couch and they were still packing I think they decided to cut their losses. The wardrobes, bookcases and mat we discovered were hiding disastrous DIY so were definitely left on purpose.

Ours decided to just leave the furniture they couldn't be arsed to take, so a broken double wardrobe, a ludicrously heavy stone garden roller (and a garden full of beer cans and cigarette butts), random manky kitchen equipment, old car keys and their Christmas tree in the attic, which they then had the nerve to call in three months later to ask for us to give it back to them. (DH answered the door, I wouldn't have been so generous as they also neglected to inform the various debt collection agencies that one of the owners had left so we were forever getting court letters and bailiffs coming to the door in search of him).

suziedoozy · 25/10/2020 19:22

This is outing but... We were left with a pond filled with about 27 koi... along with instructions for feeding them twice a day! The houses needed lots of work doing & we were relocating 500 miles so didn’t have any plans to live there for a couple of months Shock

Luckily I found someone who took them (and the whole pond with liner etc) the next day - they were delighted!

One took the bulbs, the remnants of all the loo roll, the wood burner they were supposed to leave and locked the front door from the inside ans snibbed it so we could not get in and had to find our way round rhe back in the dark to gain entrance. Divorce case. We’d paid full asking too. Found a massive box of Birthday and Xmas cards in thr loft though...

The owners of this propert left us all the wine racks in the cellar, the chest freezer, a floor lamp, (they asked us if we wanted all these in advance), and when we moved in, we found about a hundred light bulbs, a book on the history of the property (someone famous from history lived here) , a welcome card, a little letter explaining all the things about the house, a bottle of champagne, and random things in the garden, like a water pump, a wheel barrow, loads of roof tiles, loads of terracotta pots, and some bird feeders. They were downsizing so didn’t need them.

MickeyMouseEars · 25/10/2020 19:24

They took the curtain poles. I didn't mind so much but, not only do we have some really odd sized windows (so unlikely to be able to reuse) but they were moving into a rented house that already had curtain poles...

Tappering · 25/10/2020 19:25

He let everything - the house was full to the brim. He packed a suitcase, took his wedding photo off the wall and left the test. Even down to his aftershave and toothbrush in the bathroom.

We had to get a house clearance firm in to empty the place, as we couldn't get our own stuff unpacked!! Our solicitor wanted to complain to his but we said no as he was elderly and had cancer. He'd also accommodated our ridiculously short deadlines due to our nightmare chain and buyer's mortgage deadline, so we treated it as a quid pro quo. To be fair we got some lovely furniture out of it, so it wasn't all bad.

MickeyMouseEars · 25/10/2020 19:26

They also left a single front door key with the estate agent (despite 4 adults living in the house) and said they had packed the rest of the keys (back door etc) which the would post on to us. It's now 5 years later and still no further keys have appeared...

Taking lampshades is perfectly reasonable. My dining room lampshade cost £400, I won’t be leaving it when I move out. I’ll also be taking the £200 coat rack. Taking mirrors off the walls is also reasonable, they’re no different to pictures?

Our friends- 2 dobermans. It was a repossession sale. They were not intending to move in and luckily decided to drop by the day after the purchase to find 2 dogs.

Our neighbour left their chickens

Katieweasel · 25/10/2020 19:33

We moved in to find that the previous owners had taken the wheelie bins. Couldn't believe how much they cost to replace.

persistentwoman · 25/10/2020 19:35

Current house - they took all the lightbulbs Sad
Several houses ago they left a loft full of rubbish and 8 huge sacks of old toys in the shed - think 1950s plus. The husband kept arriving on the doorstep to say, "I forgot to take...."

After 2 weeks of this and giving them a final warning (anything not collected by Sunday is now ours) they finally stopped calling. The following year we looked up the value of all the old toys in the shed and sold them for several thousands of ££ and used the money to rewire the house. Grin

Not my purchase but somebody I knew bought a house and the vendor had left several bin bags filled with used, home made sanitary towels in the loft.

TazMac · 25/10/2020 19:36

My buyers were bullying arseholes, it was a landlord and I think he thought he could bully me because I was a young single female. So I took everything that wasn’t on the fixtures and fittings list. Fitted blinds (that were quite expensive due to odd shape of some windows), loo roll, lightbulbs, washing machine (even though I was moving to a new build with these things in). I gave the washing machine and some of the blinds to charity (they chose the ones they wanted) and the lightbulbs and loo roll came in handy! If the buyer had been pleasant I would have left all of these.

buckeejit · 25/10/2020 19:41

2 unexpected dogs were left when I bought my previous house 😬

Eventually the vendor answered the phone & said 'yeah I've nowhere really for them, will pick them up in a few days'. 2 weeks later we told him they have to go today!

Twinkie01 · 25/10/2020 19:43

Little girls smelly knickers behind the base of all of the toilets. 5 of them, she must have even gone in her brothers en suites to hide them.

Garden covered in dog poo. Cleaned it up whilst waiting for keys and DH to get back from work as he couldn't possibly take a day off.

Dog hair everywhere, even in the oven and fridge.

Our previous house was full of shite. Dog hair, mice, grease and filth all over the kitchen and a pool pump in the outside building but the pool had been filled in years ago.

I always clean a house thoroughly and it makes me 😡

burritofan · 25/10/2020 19:45

We left our buyers a card, champagne and a letter with things like bin days, quirks of the property, meter readings.

Moved to a house where the seller left us... BED BUGS

scammedmum29 · 25/10/2020 19:45

We left all our light fittings and curtains. I wanted to keep the light and curtains from my DCs room so rather than leaving bare I replaced with cheap ones. I spent a long time filling in holes and making the walls good where we took down our TVs etc. We also had the house and oven professionally cleaned.

The house we moved into had all curtains and light fittings removed and it was dirty. They removed all bathroom mirrors and left the walls a mess. They also left a pile of old furniture and rubbish in the garden that we could keep- they were told to take them or they’d be charged for them being uplifted, needless to say they collected it ASAP.

Despite that, I’d still do all the same things again if selling. I’m a firm believer in leaving somewhere in the condition you’d expect if you were moving in.

snidgetowl · 25/10/2020 19:47

Our sellers knew we were first time buyers, and left the house pretty much fully furnished! They had invited us round a few days earlier to show us what they were leaving - we were so grateful because we were coming from rented accommodation and had basically nothing.

luckyduckydooda · 25/10/2020 19:53

They took all our money and left us with a shoddy excuse for a house.
Supposed to be a new build- there isn't a single room in the house that doesn't need work doing...
Oh and they never properly cleaned their toilets- just stuck a toilet duck disc in there... gross. And we can't seem to get rid of the smell of the previous owner's rank perfume... urgh.

FVFrog · 25/10/2020 19:55

I am hopefully moving in the next few weeks to a 4 bed semi (although everything seems to be taking forever...) on the fixtures and fittings list the vendor of the house I am buying has stated she is taking all the white goods from the kitchen (fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine) and has listed every curtain, curtain pole (and I know some of them have been up for 10 years...), every light fitting, bathroom cabinets, bathroom mirror and small shed cupboard and wants an additional.... 3.5k for them! I have politely declined, I really don’t have an extra few thousand available!

Anotherdayanother2 · 25/10/2020 19:57

Mine took all the plants in the garden
