Estate Agent cliches / pet peeves

What really grinds your gears on estate agent property listings?

Mine are;

  • "For sale by the modern method of auction"
  • "The ever popular x"
  • "In need of modernisation"
  • Some generic statement about being close to bars, shops and restaurants

Every day during my property search I see each of the above, drives me barmy!

"Rare to market" meaning it's in a complete state and still looks like the 1970s

The one opposite us still says rare to market and it's been on a year and a modern, very unremarkable house with no garden and last changed hands in 2014.

Though my favourite is when the listings say view at earliest opportunity, this house won't be around for long on a house on the market for ages.

‘Excellent transport links’ must mean it’s near a road as no train or tram is nearby.

When a house is advertised as 4 bed and you realise they are called the living room a bedroom coz granny slept there for a few months.

When a semi detached house extends to the side attaching to the next door neighbour and still is being advertised as a semi detached. No it’s now a terraced house as you are attached at both sides.

‘Priced to sell’ Means they have put a realistic price on and not overinflated like usual.
