Will be going into week 6 next week since our chain reformed! We sold mid August though and a lot of worked in the chain before us should be done.

Still waiting on searches. We are 5th in a chain of 6.

What can I do? Who can I chase? We are desperate for things to move along or at least have an idea when we can exchange. DH is working away most of the week and I’m really struggling.

Pandon · 10/10/2020 11:58

Hi everyone, new to posting on the forum but used it religiously when my daughter was a newborn! I just wanted somewhere to air my frustration - we've been wanting to move closer to family for a while now and have just got into a position where it's possible. House has been on the market for almost 2 months now and we've only had 2 viewings! I don't know what we're doing wrong.

EA originally did an open day and promised us we'd have loads of viewings and would be able to sell very quickly, but only two people booked and even then one cancelled! Feeling really frustrated and down about the whole process.

NewHouseNewMe · 10/10/2020 12:04

Oh that's frustrating @Pandon. Are you comfortable saying which region you're in? Certain areas seem to be flying, others not so much.
Possibly consider price if you've only had 2 viewings.
I sold in a week but am seeing ambitiously priced properties with price drops even around here. The market seems to know what the level is.

Pandon · 10/10/2020 12:12

It really is @NewHouseNewMe ! We're near Leeds, in Pudsey and there have been a few houses in our close which have sold even though ours is priced lower. I think our next step will have to be looking at the price!

NewHouseNewMe · 10/10/2020 12:20

Well it does sound like you've got a fair price there, so maybe just ask an honest friend if there's anything you should do - clear out living room etc. After seeing how a different post went yesterday, I wouldn't posting a link on Mumsnet!!
Leeds - fab part of the country.

Pandon · 10/10/2020 12:34

@NewHouseNewMe I did see that post so I was a bit weary of putting a link to the listing in mine! It really is a lovely area and we’ve loved living here but it’ll be nice to live nearer family. Just can’t wait, it feels like we’re living in limbo at the moment.

Pepperwand · 10/10/2020 16:42

Our offer was accepted! Absolutely delighted as we offered £15k less than we'd have been willing to pay. So we're only a chain of 3 and ready to start contacting solicitors, getting the full mortgage application. I'm trying to keep a lid on my nerves and just let myself be excited.

Beringer · 10/10/2020 17:13

@pepperwand Congratulations! A bargain too Smile

SirCloudesley · 10/10/2020 17:28

@Pepperwand Congratulations- that is so exciting!!

Jujuball · 10/10/2020 17:53

Congrats @Pepperwand! Smile I struggle with letting myself get excited too. Anxiously waiting for our mortgage to be approved and for our buyers' survey to hopefully come back OK, then I might maybe relax a little?! Shock

IheartNiles · 10/10/2020 18:04

That’s great news!

Our mortgage was approved quickly (Barclays, we got the application in 1 day before rates went up). Buyers have theirs and person above ours moving into rented. Just waiting for the legalities and deciding if we want a survey (we normally don’t bother as DH trained as one). Trying not to get excited, I struggle with the process feeling really slow going and not transparent.

SirCloudesley · 10/10/2020 18:13

One of our 7 viewings cancelled due to a
Covid but had 6 today. Will await feedback. I know this is a mad flurry because we are new to the market and things will quieten down so I'm keeping realistic. Also my dream house is under offer and there's nowhere else on the market that fits the bill. May post that note through their door tomorrow.

tigerbear · 10/10/2020 19:34

OMG, totally random, but today DP found out about a house which is a total old person house - nothing has been done to it for a least 50 years, if not more (complete with Fucking Scary Cellar), that we could prob get for £400k. It’s Zone 2 London, so a total bargain, and not on the market yet. If we could do it up, we could sell for around £700k.
DP could do a lot of the work himself, so as soon as ours goes under offer, I think we might consider this.
Massively scary!

Pics of the scary cellar attached!

Wonder if cellar ghosts will be ticked "included" on the Fittings and Contents Form @tigerbear Grin just kidding!

Sounds like it could be a great investment though, good luck! Smile

Anybody got any favourite places to shop for furniture that I can spend my Saturday evening swooning over?

tigerbear · 10/10/2020 20:14

@Jujuball quite possibly!
We’ve been watching The Haunting of Hill House recently, so I had visions of creepy skeletons stuck in the wall!

Furniture: Made / Swoon / Habitat / Dwell

Pepperwand · 10/10/2020 20:25

Oh @tigerbear just in time for Halloween too! 🎃

rabbitparsley · 10/10/2020 20:25

Wow @tigerbear the cellar looks scary but that sounds like a great opportunity!

@SirCloudesleyv that's a great number of viewings, hopefully at least one will want to buy! We are in a similar position to you where we've lost out on one we really liked and nothing else is quite fitting the bill.

I'm feeling really down about it all, guessing not much will be coming on the market at this time of year now and can't really face looking at anything anyway. We are moving near family but covid restrictions mean we can't stay with them or get them to look after the kids so it's a bit tricky to do the 6 hour round trip with kids in tow. The sale of ours is all agreed and we need to move within a strict timescale for new job so think we're going to need to rent for a bit which I really didn't want to do, but it feels like it's probably the likeliest option. Would mean we would miss the stamp duty saving too.

What does everyone think will happen with house prices over the next few months (I know no one knows for sure). Some of the prices at the moment seem ridiculous, so much more then pre covid, and I feel like surely that can't last?

SirCloudesley · 10/10/2020 21:32

House prices wise, I think it just depends where in the country you are and what sort of property you have and what happens with Covid. For example, if Covid continues and there's no vaccine on the horizon, then apartments without gardens in London say are not likely to go up in price. But houses with gardens out of the city might go up. If that makes sense.

SirCloudesley · 10/10/2020 21:34

Ps. @rabbitparsley at least if you're renting you are effectively a FTB and chain free so should bode well for when you do find that special house ?

NewHouseNewMe · 10/10/2020 21:50

@tigerbear I spy a cinema room right there!! Sounds like an exciting and possibly lucrative move.

tigerbear · 10/10/2020 22:36

@NewHouseNewMe ha, that was DP’s first thought for the cellar! His dream is a cinema room.

@Pepperwand 🤪😱 it’s really, really scary!

Schmoody · 11/10/2020 01:10

Hi, Can I join your chain? Unexpectedly had a cheeky offer accepted on a swoonsome (to me) but otherwise impractical house on Wednesday. Now running round like mad things touching up paintwork and doing non stop trips to the tip to get our house ready to go on sale next week. Excited and terrified in equal measure Confused

notangelinajolie · 11/10/2020 01:22

I'm worried our asking price is too low.
We have a full day of viewings tomorrow and more are coming in the week. Due to the number of viewings our agent has said they are pausing booking anymore viewings for the time being. I'm dead chuffed but what if the agent has undersold us to get a quick sale? Would they do that?

notangelinajolie · 11/10/2020 01:49

Another worry is that the reason people are coming is because the photos make the house look fabulous. When in real life we have damp, old carpets and a kitchen which looks amazing on camera but in reality is cheap laminate. The agent describes the bathroom as stilish - it so isn't. It's a good area and people expect top speck. They are going to be so disappointed Sad
What am I doing? Argh I really hate moving house.

notangelinajolie · 11/10/2020 01:52

Sorry, I'm exhausted from all the cleaning, I can't sleep and my head is all over the place. Please ignore my rantings.
