How do I get this bolt off?

I'm trying to put this lamp on my wall but can't for the life of me work out how to get the bolts off. I've tried an allen key but it's kind of round at the top. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks

Please post a photo of the whole lamp. Can it definitely be wall mounted? What does the underside of the base plate look like?

NachoNachoMan · 20/09/2020 17:37

Does the bottom of it slide off?

Oooh helpers! Delighted as I've been struggling to work it out for days. Will post fitting instructions and more photos - thank you.

Here are the mounting instructions and, as you can see the back comes off and you have to take off the bolts. I'm trying to take off the back (No 3 in the diagram). But have no idea what that thing is they have for taking it off.

Is there a little gadget it in the bag of screws that came with it?

More photos but no idea how useful they are.

They might just be caps that ‘pop’ off and hide a proper screw underneath. Have you tried just leveraging a flat screwdriver at the side of them to see?

No, there were just screws. I contacted the company but they didn't respond.

Looks like a cross head screwdriver (phillips) would have worked but the screws look stripped now unfortunately. It says a screwdriver would remove them, not sure why you used an allen key.

username105 · 20/09/2020 18:13

The screws aren't stripped - it's brand new out of the box. I tried an allen key because they are bolts, not screws.

There may be a YouTube video if you type in the kind of lamp/bolt.
Very frustrating for you. Good luck!

RandomMess · 20/09/2020 18:24

Is there any shape at all???

PigletJohn · 20/09/2020 18:25

those screwheads might be security screws with a special head to prevent ordinary tools opening them. I can't see the design in your photo. If you manage to take a really big, really close pic, it might be visible.

this is an example set

RandomMess · 20/09/2020 18:26

I wondered if they were torx / star bolts

TheQueef · 20/09/2020 18:29

It says at the top of the sheet a screwdriver.

They're not screws and a screwdriver doesn't open them. I've tried. Screws don't have round inserted heads.

There’s holes in the side below the screws - possibly insert a screwdriver there and they’ll pop up?

ApolloandDaphne · 20/09/2020 18:36

Does the curved bit not just pull/slide off?

PigletJohn · 20/09/2020 18:37

screws can have any type of head. Slot, cross, socket, hex, square, security.

username105 · 20/09/2020 18:42

Here's as close as I can get in focus(ish).

I think it needs a hex fitting.

I think they might be grubscrews, but I can't make out the head.

Are they hexagonal on the outside, like a nut?

or do they have a hexagonal socket?

is there a central pin in the bottom of the socket to stop an Allen key or Torx driver going in?

orangejuicer · 20/09/2020 19:25

As above they are hex grub screws. You need the right hex head allen key.

username105 · 20/09/2020 19:39

They look like a hexagonal socket. They are round, round head and hexagonal on the inside. The top isn't an hexagonal shape. Bit like this.

Aquicknamechange2019 · 20/09/2020 19:50

It looks like they are in upside down. I'd maybe take it back and ask for another one.

MustDust · 20/09/2020 20:18

It actually looks to me that it's been put together wrong and it's been screwed from the inside instead of the outside. Can you fit a tool in to undo them internally?
