If you have a hob with 5 rings/burners how often, and in what circs do you use all 5 at once?

I’m not much of a cook so never. Both ovens get used a couple of times a year.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 25/08/2020 10:18

We had one in our last house, and despite being very keen cooks, almost never used all the burners. We also had a second oven (rangemaster), but only used that once. We could have managed without too. I’ve done Christmas dinner for years with a single, bog standard oven and hob.

We have four now and rarely use more than three, though it’s useful to be able to make space by swapping between them.

Callybrid · 25/08/2020 10:19

I rarely use all 5 and actually with my hob unless they’re all tiny saucepans, five don’t fit on. I guess it makes sense if you want the big one in the middle for a wok burner though? I don’t use the wok support thing that came with ours and rarely use the big central burner - I probably should have got a large four burner hob.

OTOH I regularly wish for more oven space...

WinterAndRoughWeather · 25/08/2020 10:19

Four burners that is, not four ovens... we have one oven.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 25/08/2020 10:20

Yeah - I'm coming to the conclusion that more counter space is more useful. Thanks 😊

And one of the burners is a double flame one that we often use with a wok ring, as we cook a lot of Asian food.

It’s actually an excellent hob - the burners are spaced unevenly to give maximum room for pans within the normal 60cm width.

AbsenceOfBlinkinLight · 25/08/2020 10:22

I have six burners. I use the big one (meant to be for a wok, I use it for the kettle) and the tiny one (for a very gentle simmer for rice etc) a lot, and the others less often. I have a couple of recipes which use all of them, but it’s not that often.

Mostly, I like having the huge and tiny hobs, and needed to have more than the standard four jobs to get those.

BakewellTarts · 25/08/2020 10:23

I have five burners and regularly use them so much so that I wonder how I coped with only four before. I am a cook though and like experimenting in the kitchen.

Apolloanddaphne · 25/08/2020 10:27

I only use the big one off I am using my big pot to make soup or for making jam. However I use both the ovens a lot and wouldn't like to be without them so the extra width works for me.

Yes this is the important thing, and I managed to find a 60cm four burner hob that had both of these, but I have to admit there wasn’t a lot of choice.

Apolloanddaphne · 25/08/2020 10:30

If not off!

notangelinajolie · 25/08/2020 10:33

I couldn't manage without 5 for Sunday roast.

magicstar1 · 25/08/2020 10:35

I have an induction hob with two rings and a bridge effect on the left. I use that for large pans or as two rings. They all get used a lot.

Saladd0dger · 25/08/2020 10:40

I only ever use 1 hob for the frying pan. I just steam everything else. Haven’t used the wok hob in years. Only use the 2nd oven at Christmas. Getting a smaller oven when we move

GervaseFen · 25/08/2020 10:41

Never all at the same time but the space means I can use 4 comfortably and I like the different sizes.

WhenDoISleep · 25/08/2020 10:45

I have a five burner hob currently and rarely used more than 2 - mostly because the fifth burner is in the middle of a standard sized hob, which makes it difficult to used the others at the same time.

In my previous house I had a range master, with a 5 burner hob, but the fifth burner was arranged properly to the side of the standard 4, which made it much easier to use.

Seeline · 25/08/2020 10:47

rarely all at the same time as the pans don't fit, but I regularly use the large central one - wok, making soup, etc. Love it.

Helbelle17 · 25/08/2020 10:47

Quite often, but we have a large ring on the right, meant for a wok, but I use for large saucepans, and then a griddle over the two rings on the left. That just leaves a small and medium one in the middle.
We don't use 2 ovens very often though.

LoeliaPonsonby · 25/08/2020 10:50

I don’t use 5 rings but I do have a 90cm wide hob with only 4 rings. Far more useful as I can use all 4 rings at the same time without the saucepans interfering with each other.

lljkk · 25/08/2020 10:50

We cook a meat-veg-starch meal every day, typically for 5-6 people, and rarely need more than 1 hob, never mind all 4 hobs we have. Ovens we have 2 ovens, but almost never use more than one.

sunrainwind · 25/08/2020 10:55

I have a range oven with 6 burners and 2 ovens. Very rarely do I use more than 3 burners at once and cook from scratch most days. Love the double oven though.

oldwhyno · 25/08/2020 10:59

Never really, but the centre burner is a wok burner. If I'm using that I might have another one on the go for noodles/rice but that's about it. I can easily use 4 when I'm doing a roast though, and that can take up all the available space anyway.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 25/08/2020 11:01

Very regularly, minimum once a week. We are cooks.

cosmo30 · 25/08/2020 11:02

Have a range with 7 burners one being a wok burner. Probably use 3 of the burners regularly. Two ovens which do get used often for Sunday roasts!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 25/08/2020 11:02

Ours is also a 6 burner range
