Is this a bad tiling job?

Not sure if there are any tilers on MN, but I'm having my bathroom tiled at the moment and I think they are doing a bad job, but it's not finished, so maybe I'm wrong and it will look ok at the end after the grouting etc. Just wanted some opinions, as now would be the time to do something about it. Pics included.

Im not a tiler but can tell you that is beyond shoddy. Whoever is doing this is not fit for the job. It needs taking off asap. Tiles not saveable due to those awful cuts I imagine.

Makinglemonadefromlemons · 15/07/2020 07:09

From the pictures it doesn't look good!
Raise your concerns with them now, before they start grouting.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/07/2020 07:10

Hard to tell from pic1 and pic3 as they have gaps for doorframes etc (or so it looks).

Pic2 is beyond awful. So I'm going to say 1 and 3 aren't going to look any better when the door/cornice whatever is put back in place.

amusedtodeath1 · 15/07/2020 07:15

That's the very definitely a bad job, where they've chipped the tile around the light, there's no fixing that without replacing the tile. The corner cuts are all wrong and don't line up properly. Do not pay a penny more until it's exactly how you want it and don't be fobbed off with excuses.

gwilt · 15/07/2020 07:15

Yes. Yes, it is.

Hyperion100 · 15/07/2020 07:20

that has not been done by a tiler.

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/07/2020 07:21

It isn't looking good so far. Clearly it isn't grouted yet. Some of the angled pieces could be because your walls are out and the chipping might be covered by the light switch but the tiles should at least be level and why don't you have any grout lines? Tiling without grout lines is super tricky to get a good finish on. You can get tiny 1mm spacers but you need some sort of grout line.

velvetteddy1 · 15/07/2020 07:21

I'm no expert but it looks a mess to me and I wouldn't be happy with it. Definitely tell them

AlviesMam · 15/07/2020 07:22

Absolutely terrible I wouldn't let him go further until he resolved , he's set it all out wrong!

expatinspain · 15/07/2020 07:22

Thank you. I was pretty sure it was shit, but have never had any tiling done before, so wasn't sure if the finish would make it look ok. It's such a shame as the tiles were expensive and these men came highly recommended by a family member of my partner Confused So far we have only paid for materials, thank goodness!!

That is a terrible job. A competent DIYer could do far better than that.

Take more photos and close up of the joints and tell them not to come back. Don't pay. Depending on the cost of tiles you may need to go to the small claims court.

Unfortunately more workmen are trying to become a jack of all trades. Some are basics amateurs who have had no professional training or apprenticeship.

LaughingDonkey · 15/07/2020 07:24

It doesn't look professionally done, sorry

PlanDeRaccordement · 15/07/2020 07:25

Whoever is doing it has not the faintest clue how to tile. It’s crooked and not level. They’ve not used spacers. They’ve not measured so as to have good size tiles at the ends. They badly chipped the tile where the hole is.

Oblomov20 · 15/07/2020 07:26

Goodness. That is really bad. Please take more photos and don't let them continue.

expatinspain · 15/07/2020 07:27

We are in Spain, so very difficult and expensive to get money back for bad workmanship. My partner is Spanish, so this is going to be one he has to deal with!!

OP posts:
PlanDeRaccordement · 15/07/2020 07:28

Btw, grout highlights all imperfections and unevenness so it will look much worse, not better if you let them try to grout it. I doubt they can even do that though.

Justgivemesomepeace · 15/07/2020 07:28

Oh dear. It looks like i did it.

dudsville · 15/07/2020 07:28

That's a shame. I'm presuming your bathroom is maybe in an old house, so not square? Even in my 100 year old house my tiles looked good at that stage, and when i did a 180 year old house previously that was bit only wonky but had shakey floors, the tiles looked good at that stage.
The tiles in the first pic look too close together, and in the 1st 2 pics there aren't enough spaces to keep them in place.

expatinspain · 15/07/2020 07:31

dudsville They flat is around 50 years old, I think.

Potionqueen · 15/07/2020 13:28

Oh gosh they look like my ddog tiled them. We had our bathrooms refitted out and tiled (in Spain) and the tilers did an exceptional job. Get your dh to tell them to stop.

heidiealice · 15/07/2020 15:20

That's dreadful op, my DH did a much better tiling job for us and he's completely unqualified. It'll be better you ask them to stop now before they grout so you can try to save the tiles.

ItsNotAGameOfSubbuteoMatthew · 15/07/2020 15:46

That's absolutely terrible. Get them to stop now and not waste any more expensive tiles!

expatinspain · 15/07/2020 15:55

My partner and his dad are here now sorting it out with them!

OP posts:
woollyheart · 15/07/2020 15:58

That looks pretty bad. Definitely not professional, and poor for an amateur. Tiles are not aligned properly, there are no grout lines at all in some places and the hole around the light switch is terrible. Maybe they are having trouble because the tiles are quite large, but it is hard to believe they are competent at any sort of tiling.

AnnaSW1 · 15/07/2020 16:06

The second pic is a bodge job
