Which property would you go for?

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 19:55

We are interested in these 2 properties:

A) www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71533635.html

B) www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-77560441.html

Which would you go for? Property B is in a slightly better location but there isn’t a lot in it. It’s for 2 adults, l want a dressing room and himself wants a man cave (to include his DJ stuff, photography stuff etc). I have a preference and my partners is the other!

The chalet, I’d never want a terrace over detached.

Dyra · 06/07/2020 21:12

House A. Parking in Southend is always going to be crap no matter where you live. Even if you have a driveway, people park over it. May as well have the nicer house.

namechangenumber204 · 06/07/2020 21:13

Definitely B. Would never go for a terrace if I could get a semi...

MaggieFS · 06/07/2020 21:17

I don't think B is drab or soulless it's jumble empty and need filling!

The important fundamentals are done and the same in both - bathroom, kitchen etc, so ultimately it's going to come down to what you get for your money, the location and how you feel about each.

Sorry that's not helpful, but I can't choose between them on paper, if that's the only choice.

If I was able to be really picky, I wouldn't choose either because one is a terrace with nor parking outside and one doesn't 'look' as lovely. But then again, I live in a house which doesn't have max curb appeal but after a lot of badgering by the EA, I did come and look round and I love it. It just isn't a period property, but that's why we could, afford it. That's the importance of seeing them in real life vs just online!

Cottipus · 06/07/2020 21:22

Not a lot to choose between the gardens then if they face the same way.

Had a similar dilemma when we bought our house - 2 houses in running, both detached, one lovely period house in an ok area, other slightly soulless bungalow in a v desirable area. We ended up in the period house in ok area because 1) vendors of bungalow played silly beggars and 2) I walked into our house and could imagine living here.

However- the bungalow I am sure would be worth more now for the location, and old houses cause more hassle/costs than newer ones. But I do love the character of the house. It feels right.

TBH I don’t think either house would have been a bad choice. If you may move up the ladder in future though then somewhere that holds its value better is a good bet.

Have you viewed them? Did either feel like home?

Chattercino · 06/07/2020 21:23

A.
Much nicer from outside, nicer garden, more homely.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 21:29

@JayAlfredPrufrock it’s a crap attempt by the estate agents to market it as not a bungalow Confused

OP posts:
Chicchicchicchiclana · 06/07/2020 21:37

Definitely 2nd one as I couldn't stand to have one open plan kitchen/living space.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 21:41

@heysugar yeah we would have to do something about the kitchen in a. The style isn’t me and it wasn’t well planned out

@weepingwillow22 if we do go with b then we won’t go for full asking price anyway.

B, as A is terraced and I prefer chalet/bungalow type houses.

nubeejinnings · 06/07/2020 21:53

Bungalow style, it's a semi, you have a drive way and a garage, absolute no brainer for me. Decor can be changed.

HoobleDooble · 06/07/2020 22:04

I prefer A, but would go for B purely because of the off road parking. I'd give my soul for off road parking.

DanniArthur · 06/07/2020 22:15

I'd go for A if you want a house you can make your own and B if you want a ready to move in house. I think A has more potential

Waitingfirgodot · 06/07/2020 22:33

A is lovely with the bay windows. I don't know what people have against terraces. I live them - the idea of the identical houses with different lives going on inside them (although weirdly I don't feel at all the same way about housing estates, I can't stand those). B just seems like a box with some rooms in it - no character at all.

zippyswife · 06/07/2020 22:40

A is lovely. Not keen on B

Runnerduck34 · 06/07/2020 22:43

I like property A, has character, feels homely and has a good size garden, not sure about open plan lounge/ kitchen though!
Property B may be practical but feels a bit soulless but I'm sure you could out youre stamp on it.

Burpalot · 06/07/2020 22:50

It's not a pink kitchen, it's a pink wall... Which can be painted. I too would choose that for space, everything is new and the rooms can be easily personalised, I would never go terrace over semi

Burpalot · 06/07/2020 22:51

And you can hugely improve the outside with planting, painting the door. So many unimaginative people on Mumsnet!

Sertchgi123 · 06/07/2020 22:54

B

Sushiroller · 06/07/2020 22:55

B all the way.
It just needs a lick of paint

Amazed at all votes for A....

randolph78 · 07/07/2020 00:31

I think B is a marmite house. Love it or hate it. I hate it but then I'm always baffled by people saying things like "I wanted my bathroom (etc.) to look like a hotel". I think hotels are soulless and often quite formulaic. If you think like that though, I guess you might like B? . Decor could be changed in B but there's no character anywhere and the layout is really not great with no zoning of living space and bedroom space. There is no right or wrong though, of course. The OP needs to choose the best compromise for them.

RyanBergarasTeeth · 07/07/2020 00:38

I way prefer b i dont like a at all.

areyoubeingserviced · 07/07/2020 01:04

Close call
A - has a lot more character, but it doesn’t have a drive and it’s open plan.
Bathroom looks like it needs some work
Don’t mind terraced houses, but only if it is an end of terrace

B - exterior is another bland, but a few planters could improve it.
Bathroom and kitchen are tastefully decorated .
House is a bit soulless, but it is probably due to the fact that there isn’t any furniture

I would probably go for B- simply because I wouldn’t have to do any refurbishments

Tavannach · 07/07/2020 02:04

A.
It makes more sense if your second room is a dressing room because the boxroom is on the same floor as the bedroom. He can have the loft for his man cave. Doesn't seem a simple conversion to reinstate the kitchen as a separate room and I don't like the brick wall but overall it could look great.
I actually prefer the style of B and the fact that it's semi-detached - and I like the pink - but I don't think it suits your needs so well and I don't like the small windows.
A seems like it would be easier to sell on.
