Which property would you go for?

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 19:55

We are interested in these 2 properties:

A) www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71533635.html

B) www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-77560441.html

Which would you go for? Property B is in a slightly better location but there isn’t a lot in it. It’s for 2 adults, l want a dressing room and himself wants a man cave (to include his DJ stuff, photography stuff etc). I have a preference and my partners is the other!

A. Lovely wooden floors, lots of character and better options for living space.

Also, I’m very jealous that you can get 3/4 bed for that low a price!

CrystalMaisie · 06/07/2020 20:41

B definitely. I wouldn’t live in a terrace and with no parking.

mrsm43s · 06/07/2020 20:42

I really don't like B and would discount it purely on aesthetics. I'm also not a fan of downstairs bedrooms, although I appreciate that you'd likely use them as living spaces rather than bedrooms.

I quite like A, but I'd be concerned that the converted loft isn't listed as a bedroom, only the 3 on the first floor are called bedroom, and one of those is the teeny box room. This makes me suggest that the loft conversion has probably not been built to building regs standards, and is therefore not "officially" a room.

@WhatKatyDidNxt

JUST TO CLARIFY the drive for b is tiny and the area is only ever so slightly better. I might be tempted to get rid of the garage, partner isn’t fussed by it
It does not even look like the garage would even fit a modern car. My parents had a similar garage and it was only any good for storage.
HappyDinosaur · 06/07/2020 20:44

Definitely B as I wouldn't choose a terraced home.

doolallyboo · 06/07/2020 20:44

wouldn’t live in a terrace and with no parking.

That's most of zones 1-3 London out then!

weepingwillow22 · 06/07/2020 20:48

Personally OP I would go for this one over both of those. You get so much more house for your money.

I don’t think I would buy the chalet.... it sounds like a prefab from the 1950s, made out of asbestos. It’s not too attractive either. On the other hand, it’s a semi and there’s much more protection as to extend. It’s only a four bed because there’s so little living space though.

Georgielovespie · 06/07/2020 20:50

Off road parking, absolutely. So house B, it is a blank canvas and you can add character back in.

Open plan means noise and that curry you cooked lingers, conservatories are cold in winter and hot in summer. We inherited one in the last house, never again. I also hate the retention of the original kitchen window.

House B has a lot of potential to do things with the downstairs rooms, turn one into a dining room, home office, second sitting room, gym etc etc.

I get that house A is prettier, but B has a lot more potential.

ChewChewsBiscuitTin · 06/07/2020 20:52

I was going to say A due to the layout but option C from @weepingwillow22 has my vote!

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 20:53

@weepingwillow22 exactly re the garage. In my experience most of them are too small for cars and end of accumulating tut. So kind of pointless really

We viewed the house in that link. Busier road and a rather poor finish. Most of the windows were rotten and / or needed replacing. There appears to be a viewing frenzy, people were literally queuing up down the road to view it. Probably due to the price and space

@Hoppinggreen the kerbside on them both needs some work!
@russetred children appear unlikely. Tried naturally for 2 years and just found out our cycle of IVF bombed leaving no useable embryos
WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 20:57

@RedCatBlueCat exactly. The downstairs rooms would most likely be used for dining room, lounge and man cave

Oh, l know it easy enough to cover. But it’s such an odd colour and shade to pick for a kitchen

OP posts:
WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 20:58

@Cottipus they are both east (front) and west (back). Not sure how long we would plan to stay, maybe 5-10 years?

OP posts:
Sarahplane · 06/07/2020 20:58

b

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 20:59

@MerryMarigold for a the loft room would be the man cave.
He reckons a summer house type thing would be a bad idea as it would get broken into

OP posts:
Tinkletwat · 06/07/2020 20:59

B has Homes Under The Hammer vibes

AgathaX · 06/07/2020 21:00

Property A is much nicer than B. B is soulless with no character and that modern, grey interior puts me right off.

The Cavendish Gardens house is lovely though.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 21:03

@russetred not great but thanks for asking Sad. We haven’t even got an explanation or diagnosis. Apparently there is an issue with one or both of us. No shit, l had worked that out myself Hmm. Only thing l got from the IVF was gaining a stone, money wasted and feeling shit mentally / physically

OP posts:
TrickyKid · 06/07/2020 21:03

First one. The second one is souless.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 06/07/2020 21:05

@Chewbecca school catchments aren’t a consideration. In all honesty A with lots of small children for neighbours put me off. B had a more retired neighbours vibe

OP posts:
Viviennemary · 06/07/2020 21:05

House A is a million times nicer. House B is really unattractive looking from the outside and isn't very appealing from the inside either. Don't buy B whatever you do it's dire.

randolph78 · 06/07/2020 21:07

A. I don't like B.

heysugar · 06/07/2020 21:09

Absolutely A. B has zero character and A is lovely. I would also put the wall back up between the lounge and kitchen. I'd also have to change the kitchen but I'd still go for A.
B is just a box.
