Deadend Hallway

Once we complete our building works (moved stairs & reconfigured layout) we will have a downstairs hallway that is effectively a deadend. The stairs turn 90 degrees and the 'cupboard under the stairs' is just on the first part as we didn't want a cupboard that had an awkward turn in it (although we could change this but would rather not). The door into the rest of the house is where the stairs start and we already have a downstairs loo.

Can anyone give me ideas of what we can do or post pics of what you have done with a deadend hallway. A cloakroom area isn't viable as the stairs go over that part and the door to the cupboard opens out there.

Hope this all makes sense!

Definitely need a diagram, I am struggling to work this out

BruceAndNosh · 03/06/2020 17:41

You can never have too much storage but the art is making sure it's accessible. Understairs area often end up awkward.
A diagram would be very useful as I can't quite imagine the layout

Utility cupboard with washing machine and tumble dryer?
Or a black hole cupboard where stuff goes to never return! Ironing board, vacuum cleaner, small child etc.
Actually, a den for a toddler or dog?

EasterBuns · 03/06/2020 17:43

Storage? Coats, shoes etc or bookcases.

RandomMess · 03/06/2020 17:59

Yes floorplan please

Seeingadistance · 03/06/2020 18:13

Another request for a diagram!

Leighwalk · 03/06/2020 18:48

Do you mean the low bit under the stairs? Do you have children? ...an under stairs playroom?

BruceAndNosh · 03/06/2020 19:01

Do you know any boy wizards looking for a place to sleep?

ListenToIronMaidenBaby · 03/06/2020 20:00

Haha yes I did think I needed a diagram. I shall whip one up! Thanks everyone....be back soon!

It'll be too small for anything of note really, we already have a utility room.

Here we go. I don't really think we can do anything with it but wondered if a mirror or hooks or something? Or very thin storage solutions? We do actually have a lot of storage anyway so we don't HAVE to make extra storage. Thanks guys!

I think it's a waste not to put a door on it for coats and shoes to hang in. It doesn't need to connect with the other stair cupboard.

ListenToIronMaidenBaby · 03/06/2020 20:24

The dodgier diagram is as though we were looking in from the front door....

@ListenToIronMaidenBaby
What’s on the other side of the wall?

RememberTheSunnierDays · 03/06/2020 20:34

Does it have any depth to it, or is it the under stairs door opens and rests against the wall?

blablablablablablabla · 03/06/2020 20:36

Piano or
Cosy chair or
Toy storage like ikea kallax?

daisypond · 03/06/2020 20:40

A nice chair or bench?

MrsL2016 · 03/06/2020 20:41

Little built in storage cubbies for shoes/coats? Open or closed depending on what you prefer.

Console table with a few bits on it and a mirror or art work above. I have seen something similar but I cannot remember where ie what video it was on.

EggysMom · 03/06/2020 20:43

Depending on height, a desk or a bookcase?

ListenToIronMaidenBaby · 03/06/2020 20:44

I like the bench idea or console table. It’s too small for anything large. We relocated the stairs and had only a few options of where they could go without compromising on the upstairs. The upstairs layout is amazing so very pleased, it was awful before.

I’ll have a think and also consider making the whole ‘under the stairs’ a cupboard.

You guys are fab thank you! I think I’ve thought about it so much I lost all imagination with it haha

I was just coming on to say console table!

If you're not desperate for storage then I think one there would look nice. Vase of fresh flowers on it, couple of photo frames maybe and a mirror above it if there's space on the wall. Would look lovely

ListenToIronMaidenBaby · 03/06/2020 20:45

Thank you for the pics @MrsL2016 the middle one would be similar to what we have to work with!
