Painted my awful UPVC front door - before / after pictures

New front door was going to be £1k ish.

Saw all the Frenchic paint forums and decided 'what the hell' we are mid loft conversion and so no more cash to Chuck around.

Cost: sugar soap, sandpaper, masking tape, paint £19

It looks pretty good ! Certainly much better.

Took 3 coats of Frenchic al fresco paint in 'after midnight'.

Sharing if it helps

That looks really good - I love the colour

GingerScallop · 01/06/2020 06:48

This is really beautiful. Well done you

chrispenrallt1 · 01/06/2020 06:50

Top job there!

BullshitVivienne · 01/06/2020 06:50

Wow! I hate my white uPVC door but can't replace it at the moment. Wonder if this will work? Did you do the inside as well?

missfliss · 01/06/2020 06:55

it's definitely worth doing - lots of examples if you google 'Frenchic front door'

I did do the inside too.

Gorgeous! Well done you, it looks fab

ArriettyJones · 01/06/2020 07:04

It looks good but are you advertising that brand of paint?

missfliss · 01/06/2020 07:08

No Arietty I'm not advertising it.

Sorry. You just reminded me of the Valpar (sp?) groupies for a minute there. Smile

I don’t want to get stuck halfway through a uPVC repaint job gone wrong with watery paint because of viral marketing. Grin

I painted horrible brown UVPC windows as a stopgap until we could afford to replace. They still looked good when we removed them 7 years later. We used a UVPC primer (I think Ranch International) and then F&B exterior eggshell paint

Pinkywoo · 01/06/2020 07:21

It looks exactly like the TARDIS!

missfliss · 01/06/2020 07:21

Arietty - I actually am on the loft conversion thread with a few others. As an aside on there I put some pics up of the frankly awful first coat of this that went on.

Someone asked how it turned out in the end so I updated it and they were impressed, and like me, surprised you could actually paint a UPVC front door.

Believe it or not I am sharing just to be helpful - no other reason. You can check my posting history if you are so inclined.

I'm pretty chuffed that I don't have to spend more, and I'm using a brand because I've seen lots of real life recommendations.

If you are interested here is the disastrous first coat. It took three.

I did not know you can do this. Love how you painted the cat flap too.

Do you have a cat?.

missfliss · 01/06/2020 07:22

@Pinkywoo you have no idea how happy that comment will make DH

@Fluffycloudland77 yes I do. Here she is right now in real time. Very stressed as you can see ...

The colours beautiful

Mrsbclinton · 01/06/2020 07:25

Wow it looks great! Well done you.

FamilyOfAliens · 01/06/2020 07:25

So pleased you chose a colour to compliment your cat, OP.

PepeSkunk · 01/06/2020 07:27

It looks amazing.

missfliss · 01/06/2020 07:27

@FamilyOfAliens she is definitely a key factor in the decor choices here.

She is about to be disturbed from her reverie as I have to get up for work now. She will be most unimpressed...

Thank you for sharing, it looks amazing, beautiful colour too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/06/2020 07:31

She does look frazzled. A nice bowl of fresh salmon will see her through this difficult time.

Mooserp · 01/06/2020 07:33

That looks great! How is it close up, are there brush marks?

missfliss · 01/06/2020 07:35

It's pretty good closeup. This was when it was still drying. The paint is self levelling.

It’s nice, it’s gone full on shameless to Kirstie Allsop.
