Painted my awful UPVC front door - before / after pictures

New front door was going to be £1k ish.

Saw all the Frenchic paint forums and decided 'what the hell' we are mid loft conversion and so no more cash to Chuck around.

Cost: sugar soap, sandpaper, masking tape, paint £19

It looks pretty good ! Certainly much better.

Took 3 coats of Frenchic al fresco paint in 'after midnight'.

Sharing if it helps

Hi op it looks fab. Not sure if you noticed but your address is discoverable from a picture and a post. Just thought I'd mention in case you are wary of that stuff.

I’ve just done my kitchen cupboards with this paint. It goes on so nicely and you can barely see brush marks.

It’s been on about a week so far and not chipped as yet.

PigletJohn · 02/06/2020 20:39

I looked at the manufacturer's website, but it doesn't seem to tell you much, except that it is a chalky paint.

Is it water-based (you wash out brushes in water and WUL, and can thin it with water)?

Or is it oil-based (you wash out brushes in white spirit or blue brush cleaner and can thin it with white spirit)?

Or something else?

Is it significant that they say it is designed for garden furniture?

It looks wonderful. I have done my whole kitchen and outside back door in Frenchic stormy and swanky pants paint . I even painted the tiles and a roller blind. It seems to work on everything with such a lovely finish.

Thank you for your post OP, I am now waiting for Wise Old Sage to be restocked.
I joined the Facebook group and I'm blown away by what I've seen.

I cannot wait to do my door.

Mammyloveswine · 03/06/2020 06:55

Well done.

DH sprayed our crappy white upvc door black, and it looks good. It was no sand down first stuf, and is slightly glossy, but I can't remember exactly what it was.

Lavenderpurple · 05/06/2020 23:20

The door looks great. Really impressed for 19 quid.
The best bit for me though, is the door knocker. I love him!

dalrympy · 05/06/2020 23:42

The fox is great!

You might have got a better finish if you did the last coat with a mini roller. I know this from experience as I did my kitchen and wasn't very good as getting a proper finish.

I did my kitchen in Swanky Pants but I only did the carcasses as the doors were still ok. Used Dc-fix on the worktops and it's like a new kitchen!

@missfliss I know this is an old thread, I hope you don’t mind me reviving it!

I am trying to talk my husband into letting me Frenchic our front door.

Can you tell me how your door has worn? Have you had to repaint? Is it still in good condition, or has it chipped and marked? What about where the door meets the frame is when it opens and closes, has that chipped away?

Thanks!

JoanDarc · 27/02/2022 20:12

Wow, that looks amazing! I didn’t know you could paint UPVC, wish I didn’t know as really tempted to try it now.

redfairy · 28/02/2022 00:11

I think it looks great and I'm especially pleased to see a front door with a cat flap. I'm moving next month and the only place to pit some flappage is in the front door. Like you, I'm intending to use the Frenchic Alfresco paint and as the door is half glazed I'm going to put up some stained glass effect film. I think you've done a grand job there!

redfairy · 28/02/2022 00:12

Oops, old thread. I wonder how the door paint has fared

Probably pretty well, my sister did her door with Frenchic paint around the same time and it’s still looking good
