We are getting an extension built. This is the suggested plan. The first tall cupboard is a freezer, the last in the run, nearer the sink, is the fridge.

Never had a kitchen from new before....

btw, you can use the Ikea planning tool free, you simply put the plan in, then you can move the elements around & play with the spaces.

Oh that design wouldn't work in a kitchen just over 3m wide . You mentioned Karen from OnePlan, I've used her on several projects ( my own places and my rentals ) and I really would say she's an absolute voice of reason, sensibility and an all round good egg . She does whole houses not just kitchens so could really help you . Just bear in mind she gets booked up fast, so contact her early in the process not when the walls are up and the first fix is waiting to go in as she probably wouldn't be able to fit you in straight away .

I too have concerns about the island in a 3m space. It’s a difficult space to work with as it runs the risk of being a corridor. It might work better to put the kitchen in the darker part of the room because most people cook with artificial light when needed anyway. You could be clever about lighting workspaces so you can always see what you’re doing.

Big renovations and extensions are always hard because you can never get exactly what you want from the work (unless you have limitless money). It’s about knowing which are the right compromises
