Dishwashers with cutlery trays

Does anyone have one of these instead of the basket ones. If so do you think it works better or does it mean you can't fit much on the top shelf.

Also is the cutlery tray removable/how do you feel it would work if your cutlery drawer is not near the dishwasher?

My husband is keen on one of these but I am not sure for the reasons above.

Thanks all, my husband will be pleased you have convinced me! Now I just need to see if the budget will stretch to a miele.

I am on my second Miele with a tray (old one was about 14 years old when we replaced it). I think the replacement is a mid-range one, from the outlet shop.

I suppose siting might make a difference to how useful you find it, but we have our cutlery drawer next to the dishwasher. there is plenty of space to lay out utensils too. No need to bend down.

In contrast, the one I use at work is a faff as you have to pull out a drawer full of crockery to get to the cutlery basket.

Somebody mentioned that they couldn't put large wine glasses in their, but our glass washing area is at the bottom of the dishwasher, so I have about 25-30cm clearance.

*The outlet centre has a sale on ATM, it wasn't too pricey for them to deliver/fit/take away the old one.

I’ve just bought a new Bosch with a tray after my 3 yr old one with a basket died, so recent experience with both! I really didn’t want a tray originally, as I thought they’d be a faff but I love it tbh. It’s not hard to load, and actually really easy to unload - I just arrange all the cutlery by type, then scoop each out in turn, much quicker than the basket was imho. I had to adjust the height for glasses, but now I can fit those and have a lot more room for plates.

I chose Bosch over Miele because they did the quietest dishwasher on the market (I can’t remember the model but it’s called something like Super Silence, think it’s 39 decibels) - this was last year so may have changed. It does all the same things a Miele does, opens when finished, projects time remaining onto the floor etc. Never had anything come out dirty.
