Glossy kitchens - tell me i have not made a huge mistake!

Know this has been done but think i am hoping for a different answer.
I have placed and order for a dark blue glossy kitchen which i loved - searched everywhere for a blue one. Was in someones house last night with a black glossy kitchen and she said it was a pita! Constant fingermarks and endless cleaning.

Feel now i have made a big mistake. I can possibly change the colour but dont want white since the worktops are white and i am afraid it wont match - and my last kitchen was white and i wanted a change.

No children in the house and only two adults so hoping that will make a difference. Or will i just look at it and order takeaways forever!

How have your gloss kitchens been?

Does your kitchen have handles?

Humphriescushion · 05/11/2019 19:57

No, breakfast but not those push type doors either. They open in the groove if that makes any sense. Think i maybe able to ask for handles though if that will help?

Did you push the cupboards and drawers closed on the front of them or hold the groove part when trying out the kitchen in the showroom?
Wouldn't handles look odd on a cupboard with a pull groove on them?
What did any online views say about the kitchen you ordered?

You're probably having an 'I've just spent a shed load of money' panic moment. I did when I ordered our kitchen.

It'll look gorgeous.

Humphriescushion · 05/11/2019 20:30

Oh sugar fuzzy cant really remember, but fairly sure that they were pull groove since did not really notice and that is what i have at the moment.
No online reviews is a pain! Very little information online at all!

The woman i met last night has scared the living daylights out of me! And then i googled and it got even worse! I have been in a few holiday places with glossy kitchens and i kept touching then to check and they were not too bad at all. They were a lighter grey though,

Yes i think the handles would look odd with the grooved but i think they would change this ( sorry is a bit vague )

I have a black shiny appliance and a cream shiny appliance.

The black one shows every bloody mark, dot of grease and spill...it’s very annoying. The cream one occasionally looks dirty.

Dangerfloof · 05/11/2019 20:36

Umm I have a cream gloss kitchen, and dogs. It's so easy to clean. Takes seconds to wipe any marks off. I do have handles though.
When a dog wags a muddy tail I just wipe off with a damp cloth. I dont seem to be always wiping.

cheeserolls · 05/11/2019 20:48

I've had a cream gloss kitchen and I now have a darker colour gloss (new house, no choice). I'm sorry to say the dark colour is a pain in the rear. Always looks mucky and finger printy. And its hard to stop it smearing when trying to clean it.

Blue sound lovely- my favourite colour though I'd be hesitant for the above reasons.

cheeserolls · 05/11/2019 20:49

I meant to say the cream one was much better to keep clean unexpectedly

Humphriescushion · 05/11/2019 21:11

Not looking good is it! Will grey be better if i can change the colour?

Also there will only be three tall cupboards - the fridge, larder and oven micro tower and one small overhead cupboard. It is these you will see - not so worried about the low ones since dont think you will notice those with the kitchen layout.

Sorry, I have black gloss and I absolutely hate it. Every mark shows and even when washed and polished I can see the rub marks when the sun shines on it. Brilliantly in some patches it must have been roughly cleaned and the gloss itself has marked.

I previously had white gloss and it was amazing, washed down occasionally and always looked fab. I love the sound of a dark blue kitchen but worried you’ll have the same issue as me.

PickAChew · 05/11/2019 21:26

I have cream gloss and you can't ignore sticky prints but that's not a bad thing because you usually see them before you end up touching them.

Humphriescushion · 06/11/2019 06:34

Ok thanks everyone seems i made a mistake!

Do people think that grey gloss will be better? I think i can change the colour but not the gloss. Light grey or dark?

What is everyone using to clean their glossy cupboards? Just having a glossy teal kitchen fitted now and don't want to wreck it with smears or anything too abrasive!

DaphneduM · 06/11/2019 08:06

Personally I would stick with the dark blue gloss as that's the colour you really love. Going against the common theme here, I have a black gloss kitchen in my new (to me) house, and it's fine. I haven't noticed too much of an issue with fingermarks etc. (although we do have handles). I have a husband who is very messy with tea and coffee, always seemed to have drips on my white cupboards in the last house, so black is definitely preferable for us!!!!!!!

Humphriescushion · 06/11/2019 08:16

Thanks Daphne, that gives me some hope! I am going to go back to the shop later and see what if any my options are. Am afraid though if i opt for grey or another colour and i am still seeing lots of fingerprints will regret not opting for the blue!

Park whilst googling there seems to be a product in b and q for cleaning gloss. Otherwise advice seems microfibre cloth. Will see if i can find product.

I think if you don't have kids you will be fine. We have a white glossy kitchen and can see finger marks but we also have sticky fingermarks on the french doors, the bookshelves in the playroom, up the wall of the stairs and the wooden kitchen we had in our last house. I have children, it's a side effect.

Morley19 · 06/11/2019 09:04

I have a cream gloss kitchen which I absolutely love and I never think it looks really dirty/finger marks.

I just polish it up with glass/window cleaner and a cloth, it always looks lovely.

I have teamed it with very pale grey quartz worktop. I was worried it was all going to look to pale/insipid but I LOVE it. I purposely went for a darker grey splashback. I will see if I can find a photo to help you

I would be hesitant of getting a dark colour in gloss

Humphriescushion · 06/11/2019 09:08

Thanks morley a photo would be great. Do you mind me asking Why would you not get the grey?

OP posts:
Humphriescushion · 06/11/2019 09:09

Ah sorry morley just saw you advise against the dark colour.

This is the only picture I can find on my phone!

you can just see the kitchen (behind my birthday cake). Pale cream gloss, pale grey top and darker splashbacks. I absolutely love it and have no problem keeping it clean

Morley19 · 06/11/2019 09:13

I would defo get pale grey just not a dark one.

I have seen pale grey gloss and sometimes wish I had gone for that instead of cream!

PollyShelby · 06/11/2019 09:18

DB has pale grey and it always looks smeary. They are constantly polishing it. It's push to open though which might make a difference?

goldpendant · 06/11/2019 09:19

Just chipping in to say that matte finish in dark colours is no better- we've dark grey matte handle less units, they show every mark and fingerprint.
