Something strange about this house...

So,
Been looking at moving house and one came up which we like.
It has a weird selling history though.
Looks like the buyers tried to put it back on the market 3 months after buying it without doing any work to it and then it’s been put back up for sale every year for the past 5 years but never sold. It’s now gone up for sale again today.
Why do you think this is?
Photo attached.

We aren’t from the area. Moving for work. Not sure what to think.

Have you got a link to the actual for sale advert? We need to see photos.

probably an indecisive owner - one who can not make their mind up. i would steer clear in case they pull out again

hadwebutworldenoughandtime · 25/10/2019 16:26

Looks like they paid over the odds (got into a bidding war?) and have being trying to recoup their losses with still unrealistic idea of what it is currently worth - possibly extrapolating from original over 8nflated price they paid? Is the house worth the current price on paper? Do you have an agent's link?

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 25/10/2019 16:27

Hmm, that is odd that it was put up for sale after only 3m. Unless it was bought specifically to renovate then sell on but looks like they've been unsuccessful if that's the case.
Did it take over a year to sell, Listed Feb 2014 and Sold in September 2015?

Robs20 · 25/10/2019 16:33

Could be a change in circumstances. If you looked up my house you would see:
Sept 2014 - we bought it
July 2017 - for sale
July 2018 - for sale
July 2019 - for sale
In 2017 and 2019 we agreed offers. Had to pull out in 2017 as heavily pregnant and had nowhere to move to. No interest last year. This year we have accepted an offer and move in 3 weeks.

isseywith4vampirecats · 25/10/2019 16:50

the other house we were interested in buying recently, had lost two sales one due to buyer not wanting to do the work, one buyer wanting a deadline and she couldnt do it, fair enough sounded reasonable, so we put in an offer, rejected, put in a higher offer, rejected went up a bit higher to almost asking price, she would think about it, estate agent said she couldnt find anything she liked, this is two months after we had looked at it a month later no word so looked around bought the one we have now instead, two months later she had knocked it down to what we offered and two months after that she took it back off the market, so if we had gone with that one we would probably still be in rented 6 months after looking at it ,

wineconnoisseur · 25/10/2019 16:55

Maybe it's haunted??
Doesn't look like it's worth the asking price so I'd assume that's why it's not sold

Tensixtysix · 25/10/2019 17:03

Looks nice, but overpriced for Portishead. Bit of a dump of an area.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/10/2019 17:05

It looks a bit overpriced.
Does it have mains gas?
DP thinks no planning permission on the extension...

It very much looks like they tried to make a profit within 3 months and it didn't work, but that doesn't explain failed sales every year. That'd be weird where I live.

hippityhoppityboo · 25/10/2019 17:27

Not sure re details of it. We haven’t viewed it.
Is Portishead really a dump? We’ve visited and it was beautiful.
I reckon the house is haunted too!

Looks like it might be being rented out.

hippityhoppityboo · 25/10/2019 19:57

So they’re renting it out and still trying to sell it each year? Odd.

ohmydaysagain · 25/10/2019 20:01

They probably can't keep tenants for some some reason, decide to put it up for sale and to rent and go with whichever happens first.

hippityhoppityboo · 25/10/2019 21:17

Think I might give it a miss.
They can’t keep tenants and can’t sell it. Doesn’t sound great.

I feel all shivery when I looked at the right move ad.

simplekindoflife · 25/10/2019 21:27

Call the estate agent and ask.

hippityhoppityboo · 25/10/2019 21:28

It’s a really lovely house, in my opinion.
But something feels funny about it.

OP posts:
simplekindoflife · 25/10/2019 21:31

It's a beautiful house! I don't get any bad vibes from it but you have to go with your own gut feeling.

Potnoodledoo · 25/10/2019 21:55

Im looking through the photos and i dont like the stairs area.It feels to me like theres a kid peeking around the top of it.

BentNeckLady · 25/10/2019 22:02

That’s not when it was sold is it? Isn’t it just when it was listed for sale?

Beautiful house ❤️

Bluntness100 · 25/10/2019 22:08

Lovely house. If you want to go see it, speak to the agent, make an appt and simply ask the agent why it's being listed so much. They will have an answer.

Wagsandclaws · 25/10/2019 22:20

Gives me the shivers too ...

Go and see it OP, you'll only get either a good or bad vibe from actually going there.

Troels · 25/10/2019 22:34

Could be like the one a woman from work offered on. Offer accepted, then after a couple of months the seller pulled out and took it off the market.
Turns out seller is bat shit crazy and has sold and pulled out 8 times over the last few years. No intention of moving anywhere apparently.
She's blacklisted by all the local agents, but is with Purple bricks now and they just let her do it.
