DIY kitchens

Has anybody else had the misfortune to use DIY kitchens.
We have had huge problems with them delivering damaged goods.
After 13 weeks we still haven't got all our kitchen doors replaced.
I would urge anyone to read the terrible reviews as they are all true.

How can you be sure they are all true? Have you spoken to everyone who ever complained about them?

selfishcrab · 27/09/2019 15:06

Bit of a generalisation OP, DH has fitted at least 20 (building company for clients)and I've had 3 in the past 6 years, in fact I'd recomend them.
We've ever had a problem so perhaps we are lucky or you have just been unlucky.

Kimnash · 27/09/2019 15:55

I wish I could send you the photos of how my kitchen was delivered and subsequent deliveries. You are very lucky that you haven't had any problems

You really are spreading the word aren’t you?!

Nothing to stop you posting photos here

@Dad2hen explained why they might have had the odd issue a couple of months ago.

dad2hen · 27/09/2019 16:15

When I learnt about these issues and started to worry about my kitchen I did message them and they told me that kitchens especially custom painted ones like mine are manufactured right up to the delivery dates and occasionally things can go wrong in quality control also.

What damage did your kitchen have? I understand it's 10 days you get to report everything is correct. Is the damage severe? on my tall oven and microwave cabinet there was a slight ding inside the cabinet 2 mm sized but this stuff probably doesn't bother me as much as it would other people considering I wouldn't be able to see it once the oven is installed and they provide you with touch up paint encase there's any small marks it is wood after all.

If you compare the specification of these units to howdens they're almost identically manufactured. Anything custom painted can go a bit wrong that's why they keep your kitchen paint on file for a few months after you order.

Kimnash · 27/09/2019 17:02

Broken cupboards scratched doors . Not just once. I have had at Least 12 deliveries. and in answer to incrediblySadToo I've used my own name not hidden behind some made up name. For all I know you could work for the company. Sorry I haven't worked out yet how to show you the photos but I will keep trying.

12 deliveries, all with damaged goods? I used them previously without a problem.

Yeah I used them.

They were fabulous.

Notjing was too much trouble 🤷

Myfutureisland · 28/09/2019 09:29

I've just had my DIY kitchen fitted and its amazing. It was delayed due to the issues with the painting process but I did get a discount because of this.
Yes, delivery was expensive, but it went smoothly and the units were very well packaged.
I had an issue with a painted panel and it was resolved easily. Two other door were replaced without my even flagging up the issue - they just sent them on as the paint finish wasn't thick enough.
My fitter was very sceptical as he is a Howdens fan. However, since fitting it he has been raving on about the quality. He was particularly impressed with the unit legs and the quality of all the decor panels and pelmets as he said that's usually where standards drop.
I have had three Ikea kitchens in a row before this and the quality is in no way comparable. DIY kitchens are top end not to mention the fact that they come assembled.

I believe the poster OP has an an axe to grind. I for one am very happy.

GinisLife · 28/09/2019 09:53

I'm very interested in this thread as I'm currently sitting with 96 items in a shopping cart on DIY kitchens website waiting to order. Choice is them, Magnet or Howdens

dad2hen · 28/09/2019 19:05

I ordered at the time where people where complaining.i just popped units in today and they look fine. There's a few marks of over glue but I just wiped them off and if a fitter is doing it for you you won't even know they where ever there.

Please note these havnt been fitted they're just sat on floor with no adjustments that's why they're all out if place!!

@Kimnash

It’s really not a good idea to use your real name and it proves nothing - what’s to say it is actually your real name? You could work for another kitchen company 🤷🏻‍♀️

@dad2hen. Thank you for sharing, which kitchen is it & what colour did you choose?

Thanks for the other positive posts too! I’m definitely going to order through them. I’ll wait until the new ranges come out then choose which one.

@dad2hen. I don’t suppose you fancy coming over & just popping my kitchen in do you? I make a good bacon butty!! 🤣

AlunWynsKnee · 28/09/2019 20:08

Had no problems with ours. All delivered in good condition. Still happy a couple of years on.

puffthemagic · 28/09/2019 20:09

I've just used them for a own DIY fitted kitchen. The seemed really good they were very cheap and the quality was good. TBH i wouldn't get appliances from them and i would absolutely make sure you know exactly what you need to order. This is no wren kitchens job where they measure and everything will be exact fit. for example i ordered extra end panel which i used to make a custom corner unit because the one they sent didn't quite fit right because kitchen isn't straight. MIne was ordered at the time they had their issues too in Luca Gloss white but i'm pretty happy.

Sleeplease · 28/09/2019 20:12

We had one door that had a weirdly placed drill hole in it, right in the middle of the door clearly a mistake. They sent out a new on the next day, no issues

wowfudge · 29/09/2019 07:29

@Kinmash - just how many threads are you going to start or post on complaining about DIY Kitchens? They have hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers and whilst I understand your experience had been an unhappy one, it appears to be an isolated extreme case.

dad2hen · 29/09/2019 07:45

@incrediblysadtoo haha wish I had time to do it as a hobby I can't believe how much people are being charged for kitchen supply and fit!

If you have even floors and walls it's actually really simple to try yourself. Only tricky bits are worktop joins but you can order the joins pre cut from places like worktop express! [Smile]

666onmyhead · 29/09/2019 10:50

As far as I can see you only have two posts under this name, and both are to slate DIY kitchens ??? This screams of sabotage to me. I think most people will be happy to make their own minds up. Lots of company's have a few bad reviews. But do consider the number of bad in relation to the number of good.

And before you ask, yes I have bought from them and had no problems.

wowfudge · 29/09/2019 11:09

Me too - we had a door replaced and part of a magic corner mechanism with no delay. Can't complain about the service or quality.

MoobaaMoobaa · 29/09/2019 11:32

Kim's review has been removed by trust pilot.

apparently they they won't let and assessor inspect the problems.

IncrediblySadToo · 13/10/2019 20:28

@MoobaaMoobaa

Now there’s a surprise! 🙄

I love their new colours. I’m trying to be patient and wait for the new designs to come out before I order my kitchen. But arghhhhhh hurry up
Already!!

IncrediblySadToo · 13/10/2019 20:37

@dad2hen. If I had ‘even’ anything I might give it a shot, but alas, the builders name was Jack!

We used to live overseas and our ‘proper’ tools are all still there, so I think there’d be quite an outlay on tools - all the things you take for granted!

I have another fitter coming to do a quote tomorrow so I’ll see what he is like.

Any updated photos for us?!

I was thinking about karndean (or similar for the floor) but the last fitter who came to quite said I should use the click together vinyl laminate and he can lay that for me. It seems a bit ‘cheap & nasty’ to me, but I’d be interested if anyone has used it and thinks it’s fine?!

dad2hen · 13/10/2019 21:05

@IncrediblySadToo

We both work full time and have a 10 month old so very slow progress but fitted the first row and appliances.

Worktops have been cut but not fitted so ive just placed the off cuts on top. Units have been really good so far I chopped them alot at backs and they didn't split or go funny really good quality. Went oak on floor to but again not fitted.

Worktops from worktop express 40mm oak oiled and finished myself.

DIY kitchens cabinets are Malton painted in dove grey.

@IncrediblySadToo your fitter wants to you to have a floor he can fit and charge you for. Have what you want. You'll need to co-ordinate a fitter for Karndean and the plinths of the units will need to be fitted after the flooring.
