Right I've now mostly RTFT. @soakedat3 I have the same made.com lights - I got the wall lights for the living room in frosted glass and black nickel - so at a pinch I can get the main ceiling light to match rather than use the vintage one. The builders will pay for a replacement I think, it's the problem of finding replacement shades to match.
I've calmed down about the bathroom. A bit. I think that I had to make certain compromises in trying to turn a 1920s semi into the smblance of a modern detached - upstairs I had to choose between bedroom sizes and the bathroom. I've scoped out the size of my daughter's bathroom and we will have enough room.
I've got a kitchen planning appointment on Wednesday with Wren kitchens but I am going to look at Better Kitchens - albeit I want a pale blue kitchen, and for Better Kitchens the delivry for a bespoke colour (which we would need, I want baby blue rather than grey blue) is first week of December which feels a bit close to Christmas! I wonder if I could get the units delivered (since they will be standard) and the doors later? That way I could have the worktop templated....also the colour match from Better Kitchens is for painted units, whereas Wren is laminate, which I think will weather better.
What is the minerva? I'm wanting Quartz but am open to ideas....
The new kitchen area is looking great, the chimney breast has been totally opened up and we will be able to get a breakfast cupboard in there.
@Slightlysurviving so sorry to read about your bat issues!!! or non bat issues........so frustrating
I think we might win on timescales tho. We first saw an architect about 6 years ago and have been dithering about an extension ever since....our build is dragging on BUT we have a local builder who uses subbies, he says he's a project manager but I have done a lot of it. The upside is that the total build cost (excluding plumbing and electrics) is £80k for a double storey side and single storey front extension. Extras are the painting of the render (which despite allegedly being white is in fact cream - will cost £1000 to paint plus paint cost plus £350 extra for scaffolding) and that's it for now.
We have had endless problems with the french doors - we have gone for heritage aluminium from BM bifold doors. They look like Crittall windows. All the sightlines are out of whack, and we have had delays with delivery. We had a quote from another company (Marlin Windows inKeighley) but they came in at £12k vs £7.5k for BM. I think that we would have windows that were right if we had used Marlin - I do think we'll get there with BM, just need to keep pushing them. And a £4k saving is well worth a bit of delay. It has held us up on the build overall tho.
Steve the plasterer is here rendering the front of the house in the beige render, the last remaining window will be fitted next week (with reproduction stained glass), I've had the tiler round to measure up the bathroom and downstairs loo, I've found a fireplace for the living room for the woodburner so that will be fitted in a couple of weeks, the electrician is here next week first fixing the kitchen. I think I'm just at the stage where Ive fallen out of love with it all and am worried we made all the wrong decisions.
