Coloured kitchen cabinets - will I regret it?

DH and I really like this kitchen:
www.wickes.co.uk/kitchen/contemporary-kitchens/intelliga-range/esker-azure
It's a kind of acrylic bluey green. Not as grey as it looks in the photos.
This kitchen is intended to last us 20 years of so, should we be sensible and go for cream gloss?
I love it and so does DH but I worry it will date more quickly than a less interesting colour, and we will be stuck with something we no longer love.
Have you chosen a coloured kitchen, and did you regret it long term?

Oooh...I think it's beautiful! Don't think it will date too quickly.
I was expecting bright amber-y yellow.

Seeingadistance · 11/08/2019 19:03

I think it’s lovely.

As long as it’s a colour which you love and feel happy with, then it’ll be fine.

I try to go by William Morris’s maxim - have in your home that which you know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

Ikeameatballs · 11/08/2019 19:04

I love it.

I went for navy and white in my last house and it looked fab.

Seeingadistance · 11/08/2019 19:11

As I get older, now in my 50s, I realise that my preferences for particular colours has remained constant throughout my life. The colours themselves have gone in and out of fashion, but they’ve always made my heart sing! I still favour the colours I chose for my bedroom when I was 13.

My favourites include turquoise to duck egg blue type colours, so your kitchen would definitely keep me happy for twenty years or more!

I made the same choice - coloured cabinets. Similar colour to these but Matt, not gloss.

Go for it.

sahbear · 11/08/2019 19:17

Thanks all. Very positive!
It is the only colour both DH and I can agree on (he likes the greys, I like cream). I think you are right, if you like it, you like it.

I'm putting that exact colour in matt in this week! We really like it. I considered playing safe with cream but took the plunge for something a bit different. Anyway we like it so that's that.

sahbear · 11/08/2019 19:25

@Noroof where are you getting your matt version from, I am still at the research stage.
What colour worktop are you going for?

Very nice, and I don't think that's a colour that will date.

Grey and red, on the other hand.....

daisypond · 11/08/2019 19:38

Very nice. I like it.

Noroof · 11/08/2019 19:38

@sahbear I got it from Betterkitchens. They offer a similar service to DIY kitchens. They also help with planning. 4 week turnaround...all arrived and as far as I can tell its fine with no damage. Really recommended.

Noroof · 11/08/2019 19:39

I went with a vintage oak worktop....and very light wood floors

ElstreeViaduct · 11/08/2019 19:41

I love it! I like the Magnet and DIY Kitchens versions too.

I don't think cream gloss has any guarantee of staying in fashion. I thought light wood like maple and beech was as good a bet as any and that went by the wayside. You both love it, go for it. Plus, the acrylic/ glass effect gloss is fairly new and has a lot of life left, I think.

brownjumper · 11/08/2019 19:44

I've got exactly that kitchen from wickes! Had it about 2 months now. I love the blue . I've attached some pics from when it was being done

I've got that colour but matt. Had the same reservations as you, but got it anyway. That was 8 years ago and I still love it!

sahbear · 11/08/2019 19:51

Thanks @Noroof
We live close enough to visit Better Kitchens showroom, so thanks for that. I will have a look.

I know someone who got this exact kitchen fitted recently and eventhough I'm not a fan of that colour in general and it wouldnt have been my first choice personally, now it is fitted it is absolutely beautiful and I want it!!!

AnotherOneBitesTheDust · 11/08/2019 19:54

The one I have seen fitted is the one with no handles too, the push to open cupboards/drawers.

sahbear · 11/08/2019 20:06

Thanks all. You have suitably encouraged me.

@brownjumper - what is your worktop?

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 11/08/2019 20:08

We put it a navy kitchen a couple of years ago and I had enough of it within 6 months even though it's my favourite colour. I wish I'd put in white cabinets.

Tillymintsmama · 12/08/2019 18:13

It's beautiful. I had petrol blue gloss cabinets with wood worktops, from Howdens, in my old house and I loved them and had them for 9 years before I moved. White/cream gloss is sooooo boring. Colour is good, personality!

The worktop is quartz , a white marble effect

MiniCooperLover · 15/08/2019 08:28

Go for it !! We are getting a dark blue/charcoal kitchen shortly from Benchmarx. It'll be having a wood look karndean floor and white work surface. I'm excited about it.

BlueSkiesLies · 15/08/2019 08:28

All kitchens date, so go with something you love.

I think that colour is gorgeous.

HeadintheiClouds · 15/08/2019 08:29

Nice.
