We are stuck between two houses. Which would you pick?

They're both lovely but I'd pick the second one. It has lots of character and great high ceilings.

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 31/05/2019 23:12

After a super quick look & "feel", the second one. I like the high ceilings & the first seems to lack character.

OldAndWornOut · 31/05/2019 23:14

Usually I prefer the style of the second one, but it seems a little bit 'fussy', so I'm going for number one.

They're both lovely though. Smile

DramaAlpaca · 31/05/2019 23:14

The second one is much nicer, IMO.

QueenofPain · 31/05/2019 23:16

Second one!

Pinkkink · 31/05/2019 23:19

Second one has only a front garden/no rear garden and a shared courtyard style driveway with two other houses. Change anyone's mind?

I don’t like the layout of 1 but it would be easier with smaller kids

2 would be great for teens

Nanalisa60 · 31/05/2019 23:21

Both lovely I would choose the one with a south/west facing back garden!! If they both have south facing back gardens then I would go for the second one.

isthatabloborwhat · 31/05/2019 23:22

Prefer the first one's garden which has loads of potential but then I'm a gardener at heart.

TwigTheWonderKid · 31/05/2019 23:22

The kichen ceiling in the frst house seems very low. Or is it just the angle they've taken the photo from?

Annasgirl · 31/05/2019 23:24

I prefer the first and the garden is fab. You could always change parts of the first house but you would never have a back garden in the second house. So I would definitely go with the first. But I also hate the hot tub etc in the second one.

Avocuddles · 31/05/2019 23:25

Number two for me. Gorgeous character and plenty of space. I can imagine the parties!

ShesABelter · 31/05/2019 23:26

Second one..really don't like the bedrooms or bathroom in first one..love the features in the second one with the beams and the elevated lounge area. The room with the blue walls will be nice painted and with the horrible wooden cabinets out it..

rideawhiteswan · 31/05/2019 23:27

I prefer the look of house 2 but wouldn't buy it. Aside from the garden I don't like the downstairs layout (haven't looked at the upstairs), the kitchen is too small not to have a separate dining room and that's too far away from the kitchen.

ShesABelter · 31/05/2019 23:28

Is the garden of the first one private/enclosed though? Do you have children and if he's, what age's are they?

HotClothCleanse · 31/05/2019 23:28

I like the first one.

You'd be living a few minutes away from my DSIL Wink

lovely area

Bouledeneige · 31/05/2019 23:28

I'd want to re-do the kitchens and bathrooms in both. But on overall character I'd do 2.

stanski · 31/05/2019 23:29

Second one for sure

VeniVidiViciTwice · 31/05/2019 23:46

First one, prefer the kitchen in it.

laburnumtree · 31/05/2019 23:58

Neither I'm afraid

First one - odd layout downstairs, no character, rooms seem dark, in an 'estate' type setting which doesn't suit me. Nearest secondary school doesn't look great.

Second one - on a main road, odd layout too, you're expected to pay a premium price for the 'features' which are just bolted on to a modern box. Again nearest secondary school looks poor.

I'm fussy though - it depends what you're looking for

thistimeofyear · 01/06/2019 00:01

I like the 2nd one from the outside but not the inside at all - they certainly like wood!
1st one for me - has a much nicer feel inside and a nicer garden

BlueSkiesLies · 01/06/2019 00:03

Like the garden of house 1 but dislike the layout. Also it could do with freshening up decor and bathroom wise.

House two is nicer and the front garden being the only garden doesn’t seem to me to be an issue as it is very private and not really a typical ‘front’ garden.

Hard to assess the parking and shred courtyard issue without being there.

LoveMyNewHome · 01/06/2019 00:14

Amazing houses for the money! Shock Personally I like house 1.

Isatis · 01/06/2019 00:21

If you buy the second one you are paying for stuff like the "therapy cabin" which is OK if you actually want one, but who really does? You're also paying for the wanky seating area on the landing that no-one will ever actually use. I don't like the way the extension is plonked on to the end, either - contrary to the estate agent's assertions I think it's pretty diabolical design.

As for that room that "serves as a perfect office/den for the master of the house" - someone needs to tell whoever wrote that crap that we're in 2019, not 1949.

Can you tell that that house annoys me?

LarryGreysonsDoor · 01/06/2019 00:22

The rooms and layout of the second house are better but the road would put me off.
