No idea but if it is you need professionals to deal with it

Tarrarra · 30/04/2019 21:20

Looks like it to me...

BikeRunSki · 30/04/2019 21:21

Yes, looks like it

LuluJakey1 · 30/04/2019 21:22

I think it is. There is a photo of some below that has been cut - just starting to leaf. It looks identical to me. Have you had it before?

Yes looks like it to me.

Beekeeper1 · 30/04/2019 21:24

Yes, sadly, that is most definitely Japanese Knotweed without a doubt. Sorry!

Itscoldouthere · 30/04/2019 21:25

Yes 😢

Boohootoyootoo · 30/04/2019 21:26

It's a nightmare but you can get it treated and take out an insurance policy which means house can be mortgaged. My mum bought a house with knotweed within a certain distance and the owners had to spend a few grand on all the cover and treatment along with other nearby owners.

Is it on your property OP?

pineapplepatty · 30/04/2019 21:28

Yes it is

Skiingismylife · 30/04/2019 21:28

Yep. I had it in the front garden in my first flat and never knew what it was so treated it as any normal plant. 😵 it did not spread though and The flat sold and got bought a few time before and since for hefty London Prices. I was gobsmacked when I found out a few years later but glad I didn’t know as I loved that flat, had great years there. Sorry to digress... but wanted to cheer you up a bit.

Lovelydovey · 30/04/2019 21:29

Yes - been there, done that!

Skiingismylife · 30/04/2019 21:38

It would be quite a nice plant, if it didn’t have the reputation.

BikeRunSki · 30/04/2019 21:49

The reputation of outcompeting native species and destroying foundations and concrete structures?? That’s reality, not reputation.

ControversialFerret · 30/04/2019 22:02

Yes it is. Be aware you can't dispose of it at a tip or in your garden bin, because it's an offence to spread it further. You need professionals to come in and sort it.

Skiingismylife · 30/04/2019 22:08

Let me rephrase it for you. It would be a nice plant if it wasn’t “outcompeting native species and destroying foundations and concrete structures??” Better now??
🙄

30ishiwish · 30/04/2019 22:09

Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately, it’s in the garden of a house we were hoping to buy. Spotted it on our second viewing, after our offer was been accepted and searches/surveys paid to be carried out.

Yep l think it is

PotteringAlong · 30/04/2019 22:11

Lucky you spotted it!

Boohootoyootoo · 30/04/2019 22:15

It doesn't mean you can't buy it.

The owners are now obliged to deal with it and they and the estate agents have to mention it to any other buyers.

They have to buy a treatment plan with an idemnity. Then the house is mortgagable.

TroysMammy · 30/04/2019 22:18

Cooked it tastes of rhubarb.

Skiingismylife · 30/04/2019 22:22

Does it? I wondered as it looked pretty similar.

CherryValance · 30/04/2019 22:23

We used to call it 'Sally Rhubarb' where I grew up in South Wales. I'm probably responsible for spreading it as we used to play with it all the time as kids Blush, 'popping' it and play fighting with the woody bits.

I wouldn't want it in my garden.

Skiingismylife · 30/04/2019 22:24

Oh reply what a nightmare. See I’d have hated to know this as I would prob not have bought the flat either. I am not suggesting you do buy it (before I get jumped at throat). It is a shame as it messes up with all your previous plans. Sorry.

TroysMammy · 30/04/2019 22:36

CherryValance I live in Swansea, we called it wild rhubarb. We ate it raw in small quantities, not recommended.

30ishiwish · 01/05/2019 18:08

We should get the survey through before the end of the week. I’m certain it is JK and we definitely won’t be buying it if it is confirmed.
