Off white/ pale Cream (Magnolia?) paint colours

I appreciate that cooler tones are more fashionable right now, but we need to redecorate two of our bedrooms before we put the house on the market and a warm off-white will suit the rest of the decor & carpets much better.

Any suggestions for cheap pale cream colours or is magnolia still the easy go-to option?

Magnolia will make it look like a rental.
Egyptian Cotton is my go-to classy colour. Timeless is timeless.

I’m 75% of the way through repainting my house in Dulux Natural Hessian - it’s a bit warmer than magnolia and Homebase currently have it on sale at £26nfor two small tins rather than £28 for one big one 😁😁

Crown soft linen is lovely

MoreProseccoNow · 23/03/2019 18:02

Farrow & Ball Slipper Satin - in Johnston's paint mix of course Smile

I love Egyptian Cotton too, but also recently had room done in Polished Pebble. I love it.

Almond white is a great cream colour. Dulux I think. Crown used to do one called sail white. That's nice. Also dulux did a heritage one called York white. Slightly darker but a good, solid cream. Think you have to have it mixed x my go to would be almond white though if I was looking for a warmer ceeam/white.

MonaChopsis · 23/03/2019 19:13

I've used Jasmine White which is a slightly warmer Timeless

flirtygirl · 23/03/2019 19:33

Dulux almond white and timeless.

Or buy a 10l white and a dark cream sample and mix the entire sample into the white to give a off white. Make sure 10l is enough for everything plus touch ups as this won't work as it impossible to. Mix the same colour twice.

There no such thing as a nice magnolia. Magnolia is just a dingy pale yellow.

DaedricLordSlayer · 23/03/2019 19:36

whiskey cream is my favourite warm cream

thenorthernluce · 24/03/2019 12:47

Dulux Ivory Lace is what we have throughout our house and I think it's lovely.

hoochymamgu · 24/03/2019 16:18

Another vote here for almond white dulux Grin

Gardenia, which is a British Standard colour (BS 10B15). Magnolia is white with hint of pink but this is white with tiny bit of yellow. Works very well as a white in a period house.

mimibunz · 24/03/2019 18:35

Another for almond white!

Bloodybridget · 25/03/2019 01:29

We have a lot of Crown Sail White in our house, have used Natural Hessian, Almond White and Egyptian Cotton in the past, but Sail White is brighter and lighter which I prefer. Just had Polished Pebble in a new bathroom, it's lovely but pale grey rather than cream.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/03/2019 07:51

Dulux Timeless is IMO very nice.
What I've done in the past is paint the little try-me pots on sheets of A4, and hold them up in situ to see which goes best.

PeachPotato · 25/03/2019 08:28

I’d go with magnolia! I wouldn’t paint my own house in it but for selling it’s popular for a reason. Especially in south facing rooms.

thecatsthecats · 25/03/2019 08:53

It's popular for the reason that people are lazy without imagination and put that disgusting colour up everywhere.

Thankfully, as this thread shows, people have options now...

Todamhottoday · 25/03/2019 09:00

Just had some painting done in Layland Vintage Ivory, on offer in B&Q for a huge tub at £12!

I was rather hesitant to use it, but my decorator said it was good to paint with and covers excellent, so much so hes bought a load for himself.

Its a lovely colour, and as I have loads of other Dulux creams ranging from buttermilk through to many mentioned here, Im very pleased with the colour.

Hotterthanahotthing · 25/03/2019 09:06

Due to seeing magnolia on wood chip into many rented properties it reminds me of tinned rice pudding.
White is fresher and cleaner.

Xiaoxiong · 25/03/2019 09:20

We're about to paint most of our new place Dulux Timeless so I'm pleased it gets the thumbs up here! Grin

PazRaz10 · 25/03/2019 09:24

F&B Wimbourne White - in the Dulux colour mix obvs!

Todamhottoday · 25/03/2019 11:05

Hotterthan,I have rice pudding in the kitchen, Crown nice...

HebeMumsnet · 25/03/2019 11:09

I really like Old Paper and the other 'warm' whites in Little Greene's range. They're all a bit warmer and more interesting than 'just' white but a bit more modern than magnolia, I think. Again, it's expensive so maybe find a tester pot you like and then get the same colour mixed up.

beanaseireann · 26/03/2019 20:09

Dulux Jasmine White

SomeLikeItTepid · 26/03/2019 20:13

Dulux Timeless gives the impression of cleanliness without being cold and works in every room. Their Cornflower white (I think that's it's name) is brilliant at adding freshness and making slightly stuffier rooms feel cooler and fresher.
