Off white/ pale Cream (Magnolia?) paint colours

I appreciate that cooler tones are more fashionable right now, but we need to redecorate two of our bedrooms before we put the house on the market and a warm off-white will suit the rest of the decor & carpets much better.

Any suggestions for cheap pale cream colours or is magnolia still the easy go-to option?

To those people who have used Almond White, can you see a difference in colour to white woodwork?

I disagree about Timelss, but think it depends on the natural light.

I painted our hall (which is quite dark) with it and it has always just looked tired - like brilliant white that has faded rather than an off-white.

Dulux Timeless is the absolute bomb . Love it. Looks as good in my lovely sunny small south facing study room as it does in my large north facing bedroom.

I've just bought 5l of almond white based on this thread. I'll report back when I've opened it (didn't even get a tester). I have timeless elsewhere which I like. It just looks like a slightly warm white. From the label almond white looked slightly peachier.

There's probably a psychological reason why all the new build developers choose magnolia.

userxx · 27/03/2019 23:06

@Level75 please do report back. I'm about to do the same, can't be arsed buying a million different samples 🙈

When doing a big whole house project my mum kept on about magnolia paint.. I had loads on and decisions to make. Needless to say once I discovered what it looks like it was used to paint the under stairs cupboard. Horrible colour and can not understand who would use it.... well my mum obviously 🙄

@userxx I just did a tester and I really like it. It's ever so slightly peachy but not in a bad way. On a whole wall it will just look white but I think it will give a warm feel. I'm having the room painted on Sunday so I'll send a pic then if youre still undecided. Tried to taken a photo of the sample area but the colour was totally off.

@Level75 That would be so helpful, thank you.

Not great light or colour accuracy but here you go. Essentially it looks white but it's a soft white. It's boring by most standards but if you're looking for something v neutral with a hint of warmth it does the trick.

It looks more white than that irl

userxx · 01/04/2019 11:46

@Level75 - that's for that. I really like it, its definitely warmer than white. Can you see a contrast with the white woodwork? Its quite hard to tell from the photo.

Level75 · 01/04/2019 21:27

Yes, it does contrast with brilliant white

Kokapetl · 01/04/2019 22:20

We have almond white in our living room too. I really like it as it is warm and not magnolia (lived in rented houses a bit too long)! In natural light there is definitely a contrast to brilliant white woodwork and ceiling. It is not so obvious with our fairly dim room lighting.

I did a tester with jasmine white and found it very hard to see a contrast.
