I'm not planning on moving anytime soon but I go on Rightmove every now and then to have a nosy. It might just be Estate Agents in my area, but has anyone else noticed an increase in irrelevant, wanky lifestyle photos? By that, I mean ones of a nice piece of furniture or a close-up of a fireplace with flowers on the mantelpiece. Like this split screen photo attached - just why?????? Hmm surely what their furniture looks like is irrelevant?

I noticed our local ones include a photo of the railway station sign (even if its not near) and the CrossRail sign.

I don't need a photo of the XYZTown Railway Station sign (not even the station!) to know what it looks like .

Is the WankyPhoto just a space filler?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 15/03/2019 18:14

Definitely an increase here too but I feel we need photos if only to feed my property porn addiction Grin

JiltedJohnsJulie · 15/03/2019 18:15

Links. We need links, sorry Smile

needmorepizzainmydiet · 15/03/2019 18:15

Yes!

Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 18:16

@70isaLimitNotaTarget those station photos sound very wanky too. Not sure why they need them when there's a 'Nearest station' bit on RightMove already Grin

I don't think the photo was a space filler, there are 23 photos in total for a 3 bed house! There are a couple more wanky ones of the sink and oven as well

It's even worse with new build houses.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 15/03/2019 18:18

I do like those two tone baskets though...

AuntVanya · 15/03/2019 18:21

I don't mind a small sprinkling of wanky pictures quite so much if they are of items included in the sale- oven/ kitchen units etc.
But wanky photos of the sellers' furniture are just ridiculous and fool no one!!!!!

Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 18:27

Here are some wanky links for your amusement Grin

Several wanky photos in one listing:

Wanky photos near the end on this one:

It's only ever on the lovely houses. I'd like them to do it on the ones with loads of clutter, maybe a close-up of all the crap stuffed under a bed? Or of a neighbours transit van parked outside their front room blocking the view Grin

😂 yeah some dog poop in the garden and a Rusty trampoline on bricks!

KrazyKatlady · 15/03/2019 18:42

These type of pics really annoy me too. Or take a pic of an area nearby the gouse and make it look like its the garden/part of the grounds when anyone living nearby would know full well that was the view across a busy road!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/03/2019 18:45

I thought they were the same EA , but there's a couple of names on there , do they collude in Wankiness or has the EA defected to another company ?

Sometimes they do the "Selling a Lifestyle" thing but the split level photos are a pain. (As are wide lens , I sometimes think Hmmm , I live in a similar house and my rooms haven't suddenly stretched by eight feet )

JiltedJohnsJulie · 15/03/2019 18:48

What's with the balcony on the second one? Ok, so you've got a balcony by do you really need 6 photos of it? And did they buy the green paint in bulk?

OfDragonsDeep · 15/03/2019 18:49

The worst is when you get these photos and no floor plan. Floor plan should be mandatory for adding to Right Move!

AlbertWinestein · 15/03/2019 18:49

That second house is beautiful but not sure why we needed a close up of their bedding.

Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 18:57

@70isaLimitNotaTarget one of them always does it, now looks like another has copied their style! Maybe they went on a special course Grin

OP posts:
Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 18:58

@OfDragonsDeep totally agree, floor plans should be mandatory!

BerryMenthol · 15/03/2019 18:59

When our home was up for sale the agents done this, done close ups of the (nice but not going to sway it with a buyer) ceiling lights .... I just thought he was bizarre

Haha, yes, this.

I've noticed it a lot on new build listings. I think it's to distract from how small and pokey they are inside, which only works until you've seen it in person anyway Hmm

OutwithMyRemit · 15/03/2019 19:01

And I agree we need floor plans!

Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 19:04

@OutwithMyRemit I agree, I'd rather see a house that looks the same or better in real life. It must be disappointing to visit a house that looks great on photos then looks pokey and grubby when you view it

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 15/03/2019 19:49

We live in a very Naice part of the country where they are building tiny shoeboxes like it's going out of fashion.
The brochures have pictures of the posh golf club 7 miles away, plus the common land that it took me 10 years to visit. And the plaque for County's Tidiest Village , even though we haven't won it since 2005 and we are now the County's Flytipping Centre

burritofan · 15/03/2019 19:51

Prefer wanky photos to wanky copy, like "The front door conveniently opens into a hallway, perfect for you to step inside. Imagine sitting down with a glass of wine in the kitchen after a long day: perfect! All original Victorian features have been removed, ideal to create more space. Usefully, up the stairs you'll find a bathroom – what every home needs."
