I'm not planning on moving anytime soon but I go on Rightmove every now and then to have a nosy. It might just be Estate Agents in my area, but has anyone else noticed an increase in irrelevant, wanky lifestyle photos? By that, I mean ones of a nice piece of furniture or a close-up of a fireplace with flowers on the mantelpiece. Like this split screen photo attached - just why?????? Hmm surely what their furniture looks like is irrelevant?

I’ve seen photos of a vendor’s humorous cushions and some really naff ornaments - like the letters that spell BATHE, RELAX etc- included in some Rightmove listings.

I have a theory the estate agents are secretly competing amongst themselves to get the wankiest photos into listings!

Squirreltamer · 15/03/2019 21:02

Close up of the orginal door/fireplace if both are special but furniture, and flowers??

Houses by me sometimes have a picture of the lake 1.5 miles away.... sure it’s lovely but there are 150,000 houses within 1.5 miles of the lake Hmm

My other hate is staged photos with people/pets like this house from a previous thread... lovely but... really? Slowly coming down in price but the pictures... least it stuck in my mind... so maybe it works???

Not just estate agents either.
Holiday rentals that do this drive me nuts.
Endless photos of cushions, a fruit basket etc etc......but not one of the bathroom.
Why?

blamethecat · 15/03/2019 21:12

I was browsing today at houses in Tenby, several had wanky shots, one featured a lovely brass telescope pointing out over the harbour. Why ? The telescope won't be included ! Another had a wanky lifestyle shot of a tiny table on a balcony with a close up of a bottle of wine

UatuTheWatcher · 15/03/2019 21:14

I live in Cornwall and just recently they have been interspersing house pictures with the beach and surfing etc. lifestyle pictures.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 15/03/2019 21:18

Totally agree I saw one recently which had wanky photos of a Tiffany lamp. Since I expect it's not staying with the house, what's the point??

SylvanianFrenemies · 15/03/2019 21:22

One of our local EAs always includes a close up of a running tap Confused

Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 21:24

@Squirreltamer 😂 those photos are brilliant! I wonder if the homeowner is a fed up mum who's selling her husband, kids and pets as part of the deal?

That house in Sussex is gorgeous! And I love the giant wooden mushroom in the other one’s nursery. I didn’t notice the close-ups in the others cos I was too busy trying to assimilate the amount of house you can buy for £300k in Nottingham. That’s roughly the cost of my 3-bed terrace in a dodgy part of the south-east!

Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 21:29

@burritofan I like it when they use capital letters to emphasise standard things 'This luxury home has THREE bedrooms'. Well, it's listed 3 bedroom house so I expected it would!

Maybe someone should tell them that their prospective buyers never get round to booking a viewing appointment because they had to go and have a pee thanks to the running water pictures...

Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 21:33

@ThomasRichard the £300k house is vastly overpriced too! You can get nice 3 bed detached houses in the same area for £100k less

“Selling a lifestyle” it’s called in estate agent jargon. Here’s a vase of tulips. If you buy this house, you too could have a vase of tulips... wonderful Hmm wanky wanky wanky, I agree.

ThomasRichard · 15/03/2019 21:34

Really?! DP says he doesn’t want to move to Nottingham Sad

GlitterPixie · 15/03/2019 21:34

The worst line I’ve seen is ‘a charming kitchen which is sure to delight budding chefs!!!’ The three exclamation marks really sold it Grin there was also a couple of pictures of a kitchen with a pineapple on the table and the pineapple was moved to a different position on the table in each shot Hmm

MrBrown · 15/03/2019 21:43

Ah yes seen several of these and the descriptions are very cringey.

I was looking at a house recently and it offered a 'virtual tour', I was like,
amazing, thinking someone has gone round and videoed going round the house so you can appreciate the space and layout better...oh no...it was a SLIDESHOW of the exact same photos 😑🤷‍♀️ how disappointing.

BugEyedBeans · 15/03/2019 23:43

Well they could try the stonkingly obvious..." a one bedroom semi-detached bungalow, ideal for anyone who doesn't want stairs!" www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-60567981.html

Sweetheart1313 · 15/03/2019 23:47

Those houses are gorgeous @UatuTheWatcher - but way too many photos of area (though it is stunning). And in such a weird order too Confused

That's another thing that annoys me about Rightmove, when the photos aren't in the right order, so you get photos of the same room at different angles dotted all the way through. I think I need to stop looking at Rightmove but I love property porn

OP posts:
Teddy1970 · 15/03/2019 23:53

I also hate the wide angled photos, I mean why bother? As soon as someone views the property they know the lounge isn't 30ft wide, it just pisses people off. There's a house for sale in the next village and the estate agent photos make the driveway look 75ft long but in reality you can only get 2 cars max on it, it really annoys me.

Squirreltamer · 15/03/2019 23:56

Sweetheart1313
There used to be several more photos on the listing but they were removed :(
I especially like the coconut plant and dog sitting next to the bed photo.... so very pointless oh and this line
“The other two rooms are great store rooms where you can hide everything from tins of Farrow and Ball paint to the kids bikes.”
Don’t hide that F&B paint you must leave it on the console table for all to see!

livingasimplelife · 16/03/2019 01:09

Totally agree with comments so far.

Another thing I hate though is when vendors just can't be bothered to tidy up for the photos. Things like duvets left on a bed which looks like a fight has just taken place there. Or heaps of dirty laundry scattered across the floor.

I mean, come on, it doesn't have to look like a show house but surely a bit of effort could be made?

Youseethethingis · 16/03/2019 06:58

@livingasimplelife - yes! That screams to me that the occupants are tenants who are pissed the house is up for sale, and all I can think is that there will be aggro. Can’t see why a fully grown, home owning adult wouldn’t make the simple step of tidying up the asset they are trying to sell for probably hundreds of thousands of pounds before pictures are taken for the world to see.

Spiritinabody · 16/03/2019 08:22

The pictures of the house in the first link Sweetheart1313 has provided are stunning. I feel like the 'extra curricular' photos have been included to try and offset the major drawback of the house - the topography.

The garden, although neat, is going to affect the saleability of this property. Many people would not want all those steep steps down to the actual garden from the decking. Most would want easier access.

So, if there are irrelevant pictures, I would be waiting to see what issue was coming up that would affect saleability.

Sweetheart1313 · 16/03/2019 08:51

@Squirreltamer 😂😂 I didn't read the description, thanks for pointing out this gem. I can't believe they had to put the words 'farrow and ball' in there, the pretentious pricks. I love that the estate agents include what they like about it too " Mrs Clarke loves -- The gorgeous kitchen
Mr Clarke likes -- The quality of the property" who cares, are they moving in too?
