A flat with no bath tub but a fab shower instead?

It's a small flat with two bedrooms. Would the fact that it didn't have a bath put you off buying if the bathroom had a fabulous shower instead? It needs updating and currently has an ordinary bath with shower over, and not room for separate bath & shower.

Yes, especially if I had young children.

cheeseandpineapple · 24/02/2019 21:14

It would put me off as I love baths. Ordinary bath with a shower attachment is best of both worlds, why would you want to change that?

stonefree · 24/02/2019 21:15

I’ve just bought a two bed flat with a shower and replaced it with a bath as the top priority. It definitely puts off buyers.

Redglitter · 24/02/2019 21:16

Id love it. Im about to get my bath removed and a lovely big walk in power shower fitted

trinity0097 · 24/02/2019 21:18

I sold our last 3 bed semi with no bath and just a good large shower.

If you are appealing to a family market it won’t work, but for professionals in a flat I would say that a good shower won’t really make a difference.

missmouse101 · 24/02/2019 21:18

I would absolutely love it. I really dislike baths and adore showers!

SD1978 · 24/02/2019 21:22

I'd be fine- you can also get deep base showers, so act as a mini bathtub for younger kids?

RuggyPeg · 24/02/2019 21:26

I'd much prefer it. Literally never ever have a bath.

Holidayshopping · 24/02/2019 21:28

I would hate it but I love baths! My kids love baths too.

I don’t think it would bother DH much though.

MiniMum97 · 24/02/2019 22:12

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath.

IncrediblySadToo · 24/02/2019 22:21

It wouldn’t bother me, but the kids would probably complain loudly.

Are YOU going to live there or is it a rental? Or are you doing it up to sell it?

BackforGood · 24/02/2019 22:37

It would totally put me off, especially if good money had been spent on the bathroom. If the bathroom needed refurbishing and that was reflected in the price, then less so.
I couldn't live somewhere without a bath.

JuniperBeer · 24/02/2019 22:40

I would absolutely love it.

Kintan · 24/02/2019 23:05

It would put me off buying for sure.

Lochroy · 24/02/2019 23:07

Completely depends on the type of flat and area and who might likely buy it...

If it's a family area and the flat could be big enough for a family then not having a bath is a big no no

If it's a young professional area and could be used as a flat share then I don't see it as a problem.

SinkGirl · 24/02/2019 23:07

I lived in a flat for five years with no shower, just a freestanding bath and a shower attachment on the taps. I hated it. Now I’ve spent three years in houses with both I haven’t had a single bath! I have twin toddlers though, no idea what I would do without a bath for them.

GlitterPixie · 24/02/2019 23:08

Sounds great to me but I hate baths

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/02/2019 07:39

It would probably put off anyone with young children, and quite a few adults who still like a bath now and then, even if they mostly shower.

If you're doing it up to sell, I'd def. keep my options open with a bath and a good shower over it.

PosiePerkinandPootle · 25/02/2019 07:43

If you're doing it purely for re-sale I'd keep bath/shower. But if you're staying there for a while and it's what you'd prefer go for it. Life's to short for one of your first thoughts everyday to be a negative one (ie I wish I'd gone for the fab shower)

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 25/02/2019 08:01

I'd love it, haven't had a bath in about 25 years even though there's always been one in the house. However my DD has a flat without a bath and a 5 year old. She's found it less than great to always have to shower at the same time as the 5 year old and comes to me for a bath as a treat! It's easier now that the 5 year old can now shower ( with supervision) on his own

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 25/02/2019 08:09

I personally would never buy a house or flat with no bath. I love a soak. If I had to redo a new bathroom to put a bath in I wouldn't do it.

GoldenSyrupLion · 25/02/2019 08:11

Wouldn't bother me personally, but I'd worry about reselling.

user1andonly · 25/02/2019 08:18

I'd be delighted and it would be a selling point for me as I hate showers over baths.

seven201 · 25/02/2019 09:21

I bought a flat with just a shower in. One of the first things we did was put a bath in. If I was buying a ready done perfect property it MIGHT put me off.

shpoot · 25/02/2019 09:26

You will definitely alienate some potential buyers.

There are people that categorically would not buy a house without a bath. Yet, you'd have trouble finding someone that would refuse to buy a house because it did have one.
