In search of the perfect extending dining table

My eyes hurt from searching online for the perfect extending dining table. So I though I'd ask you lovely people if you know of one that fit my criteria:

  • small when not extended (in the region of 140 cm x 90 cm)
  • extends to at least 190 - 200 cm
  • the legs stay at the corners when extended
  • wood

I wouldn't say money is no object but I'm willing to save for the right table.

Help!

I got mine from next.
It’s called the Amsterdam.
The legs aren’t in the corners more of a cross shape.
I think they have a couple of different designs.
Mines really heavy, feels like it will last forever.

Ooh @RhythmNBooze that's lovely! They do it in a walnut colour which would be perfect. Does it come with the two inserts to make it bigger? Do they need to be stored separately?

Thanks everyone who's offered suggestions. Time for me to get saving I think.

@MrCSWS I think the extra legs would be limiting which is what I'm trying to avoid.

@MeetJoeTurquoise that's lovely. How many adult would you say comfortably sit at it when it's extended?

cleverly, each leaf works out as an additional person (each side of course), so you never get a leg!.

I have this one

https://loaf.com/products/toaster-kitchen-table-in-vintage-white?size=one-size&gclid=Cj0KCQiA14TjBRDARIsAOCmO9YHf2KBrdkXG3lzmF6WB3o6ODi8FTp3FtwUFmOBJUkFWr4DwkPdHEkaAt3AEALww_wcB

There are two extra leafs (leaves?!) so it can be 150cm, 200cm or 250cm long. And the legs stay at the outer corners.

I gave up on getting a wooden table in the end and got a high quality, plastic one from Grosfillex instead. They have various designs and are sturdy and some are very compact when folded. The ineo, alpha 240 and largest vega were my favourites. They are expensive and it took ages to find a supplier with what I wanted in stock.

I swap over my usual wooden table with the huge plastic table when I've got more people over - cover it with a table cloth and it's long enough for 10 people.

I found the wooden ones were generally very heavy and didn't seem sturdy enough when they were lighter. The only suitable wooden ones I found were £££s.

@ContraryToPopularBelief
Yes, there are 2 inserts that sit inside and underneath (IYSWIM!)

I warn you, though, it's bloody heavy.

We have this one. You can get it with 1 or 2 extra sections depending on how big you want it.

ContraryToPopularBelief · 11/02/2019 23:22

Thank you so much everyone! We've pretty much settled on the habitat one that @RhythmNBooze linked to.

The Berry design ones were amazing but at £4000 without extending leaves Are too expensive.

Now to get saving.

Sorry if I missed it but did you see that the Ekedalen which you said you liked comes in 2 versions one which extends to 180 and one to 240?

RhythmNBooze · 12/02/2019 08:29

@ContraryToPopularBelief
Yay, good choice Grin. I think we got it in the sale so if you are prepared to wait you might be able to get it cheaper. If I recall we got a 20% discount.

ContraryToPopularBelief · 12/02/2019 08:43

@mama4321 unfortunately the larger one is too big when not extended.

@RhythmNBooze I'll watch out for a sale. It's £850 plus we'll need chairs so a discount would be good! 🤦🏻‍♀️

We went the opposite way, ours only has a central pedestal so no legs to get in the way.

Sweetheart1313 · 12/02/2019 12:55

How about this one?
www.danetti.com/tables/dining-tables/assi-walnut-extending-dining-table

I got my dining table from Danetti (a gloss one) and the quality and service was great.
