In search of the perfect extending dining table

My eyes hurt from searching online for the perfect extending dining table. So I though I'd ask you lovely people if you know of one that fit my criteria:

  • small when not extended (in the region of 140 cm x 90 cm)
  • extends to at least 190 - 200 cm
  • the legs stay at the corners when extended
  • wood

I wouldn't say money is no object but I'm willing to save for the right table.

Help!

Oops meant a to say it needs to be rectangular

Do you mean the legs stay in their original position?

ContraryToPopularBelief · 11/02/2019 11:01

I mean that the table gets bigger in the middle but that the legs pull out to accommodate not just the table top.

If this extended at both ends it would be perfect. But it's a little small.

Could it be that 4 legs won't support a table top that long?
I've got one that goes from 1.2m to 2.2m, but the legs stay where they are, it's got a leaf on each end.

Ours is a Mark Harris. It was the smallest-to-biggest ratio I could fine. They tend to do each model in several different sizes, so if you find one you like bit it's too big, search for the smaller version.

It looks like the Mark Harris Tribeca keeps the legs in the corners.

Have a Google for Design Shack bespoke. Their tables are amazing and excellent value (and I'm sure you can get your specification made). They also sell on Etsy I think and the feedback/reviews are superb. I don't work for them by the way. Smile Have been on the property threads for a while!

Have you any second hand or antique shops around, tables and chairs go cheap.

MeetJoeTurquoise · 11/02/2019 12:38

When I was searching for exactly the same thing the only one I could find at a reasonable price was one from Ikea, the Ekedalen one.

MeetJoeTurquoise · 11/02/2019 12:41

Agh hit post too soon. I ended up abandoning thatidea and bought a Padstow one from M&S instead.

BubblesBuddy · 11/02/2019 13:38

Ercol might do one. The centre section folds under the table and you pull the ends out to release the space for the centre section. Well that’s how my two tables work from them.

BubblesBuddy · 11/02/2019 13:40

Yes: Ercol do loads. Look at the Capena.

Those were pretty much our requirements too!! We got this one in the end. It works really well for us.

I'd go for an antique every time over some modern 'junk' (no offense to those who like modern stuff but it just isn't the same quality!

Google tea table, Cumberland table, breakfast table… You'll find different sizes/styles but should find something in the dimensions you want.

@MsMamaNature thanks so much for trying to help me!

The first one is too big when collapsed and the second one (although stunning) is not big enough when extended. If only it were 20cm longer. Sad

Thanks @Crumbelina I'll contact them and see if they can help. The tables look lovely on there.

@Silkie2 no decent second hand places (that I know of) round here but I keep an eye on gumtree.

@@MeetJoeTurquoise isn't it weird? So many extendable tables either don't really offer that much more space or the legs would be at really awkward points.

I do actually like the Ekedalen table I just want it a tiny bit longer!

😱 @MeetJoeTurquoise that table might just work!!! Again I'd love an extra 10cm but 187cm is the best so far. Oh well done you!

MeetJoeTurquoise · 11/02/2019 14:20

This is the one I actually got in the end Contrary I can fit 3 dining chairs under it without it being extended.
