We have a pale grey, matt handleless cupboard and white acrylic worktop... I'd like an interesting splash back. Either bright tiles or possibly something a little unusual...

Any ideas, mumsnet? Photos very welcome!

I would be interested too!

I'm waiting for an orange glass splash back to go behind our cooker. I have upstands round the worktops.
I'm hoping it's going to look ok. Cross fingers.
You can get the glass in all colours and shades.

I had a glass splashback made from a Jpeg. We live in a 1930s house and I found a 1930s OS Map which included our house on it. So a scan later (zoomed in a lot and centralised the map on our house) I sent the Jpeg to one of the many companies on line and I have a much admired "original". It is muted and colourful at the same time, and you can see the folds in the old map. Love it.

Ooh, that is very clever idea. Would you take a photo? Apparently you can get a piece of wallpaper and attach behind a clear piece of glass but never thought of printing directly on...

Live the bright glass splashbacks too. Orange is a great choice!

'scuse the messy kitchen. We have a different look - off-white shaker/range but it may give you the inspiration. You can get any jpeg printed on glass...your favourite landscape/flower/etc etc

Was a couple of hundred £ I think...was a couple of years ago.

We are having mirror splashbacks, not bright but slightly different to the norm. I think lol!

OhWhoToBeToday · 18/09/2018 22:24

Thank you. We love it, I can stare at it for ages and as above it has been much admired.

Just dug out the info - I used these guys: www.diysplashbacks.co.uk/

Was £274, including delivery, holes and VAT.

Pretty much all I needed to do was send them the photo (I made sure I had scanned/cropped it onto the correct proportions) and dimensions. Took 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Oh and amajor advantage - the fact it is not plain, means it doesn't show the dirt too much . You cannot tell whether you are looking at the edge of the road on the map or a splash of pasta sauce Grin

HeyPesto55 · 18/09/2018 22:29

OhWho... did you paint behind or did it print with a background? Just wondering if all photos or prints would work equally well?

New... I really like the mirror tiles. Have you got any links to the ones you like?

We have red glass splash backs all the way round the worktops and sink/window areas in our cream kitchen. Look lovely and really easy to keep clean.

TokyoSushi · 18/09/2018 22:31

OhWhoToBeToday - That is fabulous!!!

HeyPesto55 · 18/09/2018 22:31

Celtie... they're great! Not sure I am quite brave enough for the giant cow, however they'd look awesome in a big country kitchen.

It was just painted white for 2 years whilst I faffed around not deciding what to put up there.

Am pretty sure it is "solid" as it were - so you cannot see through it. The chaps at DIY were super helpful.

Have a look at their "Urban" range - I really like the colourful ribbon skyline ones - like this:www.diysplashbacks.co.uk/watercolour-belfast-splashback - would be great if you had an affinity with one of the cities and wanted a splash of colour.

OhWhoToBeToday · 18/09/2018 22:35

Sorry - to clarify -the wall behind was just white.

Thewindsofchange · 18/09/2018 22:36

Oo great ideas here.
What's the price difference between glass splash backs (normal not bespoke!) and traditional tiles? Ballpark.

OhWhoToBeToday · 18/09/2018 22:39

Or multi-coloured waves? www.diysplashbacks.co.uk/waves-00

Dancer12345 · 18/09/2018 22:39

I saw one recently which had been made out of mosaic tiles - looked lovely. You could choose whatever colour you wanted. Here’s a picture of one ready made, but the person I know just bought mosaic tiles and did it themself.

Dancer12345 · 18/09/2018 22:41

@Thewindsofchange Glass splashbacks aren’t that pricey at all. I’ve seen them ranging from around £40 - £100. I suppose the price for tiles depends on the tile you choose. Possibly they would both work out similar?

bestbefore · 18/09/2018 22:42

We had glass from local glass company - they took the colour code for the paint from the walls and sprayed the back of the glass - with a bit of glitter mixed in. Looks lovely and very easy to keep clean etc

HeyPesto55 · 19/09/2018 08:10

Dancer... that is very lovely.
