We have a pale grey, matt handleless cupboard and white acrylic worktop... I'd like an interesting splash back. Either bright tiles or possibly something a little unusual...

Any ideas, mumsnet? Photos very welcome!

Bestbefore... that is also a genius idea. Have you got a photo? I'm a bit photo obsessed Smile

Winds... according to the tinternet, you can buy a piece of toughened glass to size relatively cheaply. Then back a piece of plywood to it and screw to wall, decorating the plywood with wallpaper or a print of your choice though I do wonder how good this would really look.

OhHow, that last link doesn't seem to work.

Some great ideas on here. Would love to see some more.

DH sadly vetoed it in our kitchen but I love distressed mirror splash backs. Works well in both traditional and modern kitchens.

I'm interested in a glass splashback but wouldn't know what colour to get. How easy/successful is it to take them off and, say, paint behind them?

Hersetta427 · 19/09/2018 10:29

Why would you want to pain behind it? If you need skimming though I would imagine

Newkitchenideas1 · 19/09/2018 10:32

We wont be having tiles, we will have it as one big splashback in mirrored glass. I will try and get a pic for you

Newkitchenideas1 · 19/09/2018 10:46

Ours is going to be approx this size so we will buy as one sheet...

We have a light grey splashback which is pretty boring, planning to cover with this from Wilko which I have seen others do

I have a glass solashback. Reflects light. It’s great.

The problem with tiles is that you can see the rough unglazed edges at both sides. I also dislike cleaning grout. Just cleaning a sheet of glass is so easy. We also have granite in another house. Easy to keep clean too.

We're choosing splashbacks at the moment as well. I think I just want one behind the hob and a long one behind sink/under windowsill, both made of glass. A local glass company has said they can make them if we come with with what colour we want (RAL number) - apparently it's clear glass with a special paint coating on the back. I would guess most glaziers do it?

CoperCabana · 19/09/2018 11:56

I’m getting either smoked grey or smoked bronze mirror.

Hersetta427 · 19/09/2018 13:40

Wasp yes that's what we did - we even used the same RAL number to get a tin of paint mixed up and used it to paint the walls at the non work surface area of the kitchen.

bestbefore · 19/09/2018 17:34

A photo won't do it justice as it looks clear...Smile. If we redecorate we'd need to us the same colour I guess.

bestbefore · 19/09/2018 17:37

this is who we used

HeyPesto55 · 19/09/2018 21:19

Sorry, manic day!

Lady... I live the distressed mirror. Really do.

Holly... I really wanted a marble splashback however my husband has banned anything else grey or white. He totally does not get the grey revolution. You see how hard I worked to get the actual kitchen. I am being very selfless and compromising Grin

Wasp... another great tip.

Coper... pics please! This mirror thing is sounding very amazing and something I may need in my life...
