Dining hall?

I'm looking to move from our pokey little flat in the next year or so and have been looking to see what I can possibly afford. I have a teenage DS and top of my list is a bigger bedroom for him and space to put a dining table.

Anyway, I don't want to overstretch myself financially and I have a seen a couple of flats like this one www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-73749791.html which are in budget, but lacking dining space.

My question is, would it be weird to use the hallway as a dining room in this type of flat?

Thanks.

That hall is enormous, and the kitchen leads off it. Go for it.

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2018 15:30

When I read your post I thought defo not, but actually it would work in that flat, just dress it as a dining room and it will become one.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 09/09/2018 15:32

What a bizarre layout! Yes it would work well as a dining room!

letsgetouttahere · 09/09/2018 15:45

Thank you! It does increase my options to know that visitors wouldn't think I was a complete weirdo! I do think it could be a lovely, cosy space.

We had a dining hall in an old flat. It was only used as a dining room once!

GrannyMac2018 · 09/09/2018 15:48

That’s a lovely flat - a dining table to the one wall could work

letsgetouttahere · 09/09/2018 15:49

What do you mean @1forsorrow2forjoy? Did you have another dining space, or did it just not feel right?

OP posts:
letsgetouttahere · 09/09/2018 15:51

@GrannyMac2018 I think the layout of the doors mean the table would need to be centred in the hall, which I think I'd prefer anyway.

This is all hypothetical though. I do really like that flat, but not moving yet, sadly.

It's a huge hallway but with all the doorways it could be tricky! Is there a wall it can go against those photos seem deceptive?

letsgetouttahere · 09/09/2018 15:55

No, this is the floor plan.

Dining hall?

Yeah I looked at the floorplan, the photos make the kitchen look big but it isn't particularly tbh.

My father had a flat with a largish hallway, and he kept his dining table there, it was an extendable one so went flat to the wall, and looked fine.

SwedishEdith · 09/09/2018 16:55

Lovely flat. I wonder if you could move the kitchen door along towards the bedroom to give yourself a corner to put a table there (in case you don't want the table taking over the hall)?

SwedishEdith · 09/09/2018 16:58

Not sure if this is exactly same layout but you could extend kitchen slightly up to level of living room door and have dining table within kitchen?

@SwedishEdith your link doesn't work, but wondered if you've tried to link to this? It was another that I thought could possibly work with the table in the hall, but your idea would maybe work too (and cheaper again, although no ensuite which is a definite bonus with a teen DS)

Although that ones top floor, which is what I'm leaving, so perhaps not!

You could get one of those fold up tables that doubles up as a console table for the hall and get it out when people come round ?

lexer · 09/09/2018 17:09

If table fits in there (perhaps a round one) then I think it's a fab idea. I've seen flats where this has been done and yes, it does work.

SwedishEdith · 09/09/2018 17:10

Ah, sorry, it was this one www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-73164491.html

But, having looked at a few, I think this has bigger kitchen originally.

lexer · 09/09/2018 17:11

Lots of lovely flats in Gourock !

SwedishEdith · 09/09/2018 17:12

Any good? Top floor but look at the view Envy

letsgetouttahere · 09/09/2018 17:13

Yes, i really like that one too, and there's a few in that street, but mostly all at the very top of my budget or top floor, sadly!

OP posts:
SwedishEdith · 09/09/2018 17:15

I'd never heard of Gourock before and now I want to live there!

starbrightlight · 09/09/2018 17:16

I think it's great and a wonderful location (and the dining hall would work well) but it says sold stc?
