DIY kitchens- anyone want to look over my plan?

Kitchen plan nearly finalised, would anyone like to take a look and comment on whether you think it’s ok?

Also... colours! It’ll be shaker style, Linwood or Norton and I want to go bespoke with the colour but we are still figuring out if we can afford that and what colour we’d choose if we did.

Worktops will be light quartz and floor will be limestone.

Anyone got a DIY kitchen they’re pleased with that they’d like to post photos of? Did you have pelmets and cornices? Are these necessary?

bottom left is a broom cupboard to hide the boiler and ufh manifold. Then next to that its ordinary base units with shelves and glass fronted wall units. the gap at the end of that run is the freestanding freezer.

Going round to the right from the dishwasher (freestanding under the counter) is a double butler sink, a carousel unit, then round the corner it was supposed to be bins under the counter but dh objected so we are now having freestanding bins by the door next to the dishwasher
then it's a 70cm five burner gas hob (what size should the cooker hood be? 70 as well?

DC climbing on me now will finish this later...

Under the hob it’s two identical sets of drawers side by side, two deep and one cutlery. Can a hob go in the middle of two units like that?

Then going down from the hob it’s a five drawer base unit then a standard corner unit with shelves, then the tall units begin- freestanding larder fridge, tall pull out larder cupboard and then a tall oven housing which will have a double oven and microwave.

There will be an extendible kitchen table in the middle but nearer the left so the chairs don’t get under our feet in the working bit of the kitchen.

Any advice and thoughts will be most welcome. I’ve scoured the lessons learned thread...

Go for 90cm extractor if you could still manage with smaller wall units.

There is a 90cm extractor on that plan actually as I wasn’t sure so won’t need to make units smaller to fit that in. Wasn’t sure if 90 would look out of proportion to the hob, as everything I see on Pinterest has the same width extractor as the hob. But I also wasn’t sure if 70 would loom too small in proportion with the room iyswim

Fill says we should have 70cm deep worktops- anyone else think that is a good idea? It should be doable if we decide to pay the extra for the worktops as there is a bit of a gap on each run of units.

Have you shared it with DIY kitchens for comment?

DH and I went to the showroom and spent hours there making our plan and they couldn't have been more helpful. They are happy for you to email back and forth with comments about 'what size should a cooker hood be?' and so on.

We basically did the hard work and the showroom guy came along and tweaked our units about in the course of 2 minutes saying 'you need this corner unit, your eye doesn't look there, etc etc'. We've now taken it home to show our fitter having decided on much more expensive units than I was planning on

AnnaMagnani I’ve been phoning them loads but I wish I could go to the showroom... I’ll call them again tomorrow with these questions.

Email them your plan and list of questions - that way you'll get written answers to each query and you won't forget anything.

I remember being told that it’s not possible (easy?) to put two drawer units side by side under a hob as the hob drops a little below the worktop and that would interfere with the side panels of the drawer unit?

Don’t have much re layout except to say that I was advised that 5 rings on a 70cm hob isn’t worth it as you can’t actually get 5 pans on it. If you can stretch to 90cm it might work better. And the extractor should be the same width imo.

I have serious kitchen jealousy. I think the layout is perfect and having a large table in the open part of the plan will make for a lovely room.
I'm going to say that unless the 5-ring hob is big enough for 5 proper sized pans then either get a bigger hob or go for only 4 rings.

I'm almost certain you wouldn't be able to have hob in between 2 sets of drawers. Apart from anything you'd lose structural integrity as need to cut in to units to fit hob / I think the top lot of drawers may catch on the hob.

Also, we couldn't have an internal cutlery drawer below our hob (but this is induction not gas so may be different). But the hob sits in to the unit a bit so it may well be the case for any hob.

It also feels to me like there isn't much work space around your sink, I'd try to get a bit more in even if just for loading / unloading dw.

And I'm not sure about having that run of units essentially 6m away from the main kitchen, finding it hard to see how that will work with table in middle.

This is my still being finished diy Linwood. Cornice still to be added tho we're not 100% sure we're going to keep it but want to see what it looks like. Definitely get pelmets, the kitchen looks much nicer with them on (& hides under-cabinet lights).

Try again with the undercounter bins, they are things of wonder imo! Sooo much nicer than freestanding.

With that run at the other end, I'm just not sure what that worktop will be except a dumping ground. That's why I'd avoid it personally. I'd either have all tall cupboards there or a freestanding dresser or something Iike that.

Re the units at the other end and the worksirface, the broom cupboard will hide the boiler etc so is needed, and the the rest of that run is for our glasses, the wedge wood that dmil likes to collect for me but which I don’t often use, and down the bottom will have stuff like tablecloths, the slow cooker, baking stuff we don’t use very often, and hopefully one cupboard will house some of dh’s allotment/ gardening stuff. Plant foods etc... I did think of having all tall units but then I thought I’m going to need the dumping ground! We often have 30 bread rolls proving/ yogurt making that kind of thing going on. I want to keep it nice and clean but it’s not going to be one of these beautiful empty Pinterest kitchens. We (mostly dh) grow a lot of stuff ourselves and cook and bake a lot from scratch, so for example in a few weeks I’ll have an apple harvest from a huge old Bramley tree and about 25 cordons of eating apples, and I’ll be making large amounts of stewed fruit to keep us in crumbles through the year. I’m making myself sound like a farmer’s wife here! We actually live in London...

What colour is yours sdaisy26? Is it light grey?

That hob is a thing of beauty.

I'm (slowwwwwwwly) working on getting an extension built and that hob is now on my want list!

Ah good luck with yours. Slowly is the way to go then you can get everything right. We didn’t want to go wider with the hob as we have been managing with about 50cm of worksurface for 2 years and we are loooonging for some workspace. We don’t want a massive hob taking too much of it!

Ideally I'd be after a bit more clear worktop if possible, unless you plan to use the table for that (which I would). I think that would be my argument for integrated bins. Also where will you put down hot pans when you take them out of the oven?

Yes I was thinking we’d use the table for additional workspace. I love cutting veg at a table, my mum always does this. Hot stuff out of the oven would need to be carried across to the workspace to the right of the hob I suppose. It’s hard to have a landing space for everything, what do you think needs one most the oven or the fridge? We could swap the oven and the fridge over. I’m going to sleep now but really appreciate all your thoughts do keep them coming!
