DIY kitchens- anyone want to look over my plan?

Kitchen plan nearly finalised, would anyone like to take a look and comment on whether you think it’s ok?

Also... colours! It’ll be shaker style, Linwood or Norton and I want to go bespoke with the colour but we are still figuring out if we can afford that and what colour we’d choose if we did.

Worktops will be light quartz and floor will be limestone.

Anyone got a DIY kitchen they’re pleased with that they’d like to post photos of? Did you have pelmets and cornices? Are these necessary?

That's great news, on both the sink and cool kids Grin

NotMeNoNo · 26/07/2018 21:54

Can I just say, do check the dimensions of that sink. Or rather the dimensions of the Ikea sink unit front to back and the depth of the "top drawer" slot the sink replaces. We put one on a DIY kitchens 800 base and it was a bit of a compromise on fit, and they've changed the size again since then.

FourOnTheHill · 27/07/2018 14:55

I’ve emailed DIY with details about it but yes I think it’s going to be tricky to fit. The overall depth isn’t the same as the ‘skirt’ bit and I’m having trouble finding all the dimensions. I am going to persevere though as I really want one that goes all the way to the back

@FourOnTheHill had a go with the planner and it seemed to work but now I've got my paper plan sorted I can't be bothered to start all over again. Wonder why they don't send you to the online planner? I didn't even know it existed!

FourOnTheHill · 27/07/2018 15:50

It’s weird that they don’t seem to link it clearly from the main site. Also it’s quite annoying to use if I’m honest so maybe best to stick with paper. I liked that it automatically calculates the gaps for services. It’ll be brilliant once they’ve probably sorted the software and linked it to the main site and the shopping baskets etc. My lamp room grey door has just arrived now we have to decide colours :) I had discounted grey as it’s a bit too fashionable and people keep saying grey will be the new avocado bathroom suite but dh likes it and I’m coming round

I want bespoke colour really but I have now figured out it’s definitely 100% not in the budget so I need to choose from the painted colours

I dont want to start a rumour but the Domsjo sinks are being discontinued in some countries.

OP, it works like this. Sink sits on top of the cabinet supported by metal bars. The "apron" comes forward of the base unit and is 18mm wider each side so you don't see the unit front edge. However Ikea units are 60 cm deep not 56cm and you will have to pack non Ikea units 4cm away from the wall (+deeper worktop). This affects your kitchen design. Else sink will stick out stupidly. Also may have gap below apron and need a bit of matching trim to fill it.

FourOnTheHill · 27/07/2018 19:33

NotMeNoNo argh I will have to go back tomorrow and buy it! Thanks for the info. I was just watching YouTube videos on fitting domsjö onto non IKEA units! Do you know what DIY unit I should go for? Not the 80cm butler sink one I think. We already wanted and had settled on 65cm worktops so that part is not a problem. DIY are going to supply wider end panels. I’m thinking the unit for Domsjö needs to be an adapted drawerline or something like that?

OR could we get the Ikea unit and ask DIY to supply doors for it... would they do that?

Also- metal bars???? Where do those come from?

You were thinking of having deeper worktops anyway though - are you still doing this, or could you just do it on that top wall, adjusted to the depth of the sink? There's not a lot of worktop on that wall, it wouldn't notice. Though it might mean a redesign of the middle wall's units if you don't have 5-10cm slack.

IStillDrinkCava · 27/07/2018 19:45

Ah sorry, crosspost with your update on worktop depth!

FourOnTheHill · 27/07/2018 19:54

We do actually have 10-15cm slack and we have a good quote for 65cm quartz so yes it’s all good on that front Smile

Yes an 80cm drawer line unit. Your fitter will have to cannibalise it. Metal struts come with the sink. We had a high front pullout with bins under it but of course can just have doors.

I don't want to be negative, it's a great product and a good sink in use but you have to be prepared for fitting!

FourOnTheHill · 27/07/2018 21:26

I actually have no idea how good our kitchen fitters will be- the kitchen fitting is all part of the extension build and the builders have been fab so far but haven’t seen their carpentry! Thanks for the info NotMeNoNo

I wonder why they are being discontinued. They seem pretty popular judging by online reviews

I haven’t read the comments but we have a DIY shaker in light grey with an 80cm induction hob in between two sets of 90cm wide 3 configuration drawers. We haven’t lost any space in the top drawers (left one is cutlery & right one is utensils). This pic is before we added handles. We also have integrated bins & appliances.

DIY kitchens- anyone want to look over my plan?
FourOnTheHill · 28/07/2018 23:52

NotMeNoNo I’d better get myself back to IKEA then!

HomeExtender thanks for the photo I think ours will work like that too- it’s going to be a gas hob rather than induction but I asked the DIY staff to check and they said it’s fine.

Today’s deliberations have been on that left side and the freezer, whether we can justify having a new integrated one etc. It seems integrated freezers are more expensive than integrated fridges.

Also the colour! Can’t decide...
