What do you wish you had in your kitchen?

Planning a kitchen in a new build. Is there anything you wish had been put in your kitchen? We have a lot of space to play around with. I cook a lot so maybe a walk in larder thing?

Our new house has two sinks and that would now be my number one if we were planning from scratch. (Unless you also have a utility room I guess!)
Any sort of larder/pantry would also be great. I find the big deep drawers for saucepans etc much handier than keeping them in cupboards.

Pebblespony · 10/07/2018 12:25

We're thinking of a utility room as we have horses so we need somewhere to wash up etc before coming onto the house. We'll prob put the washing machine and dryer here. And maybe a chest freezer.

Lots more work top space!

jgm · 10/07/2018 12:27

I love our deep pan drawers. I wish we'd gone for underfloor heating (but our kitchen is north facing).

Kenworthington · 10/07/2018 12:29

A dishwasher

Pebblespony · 10/07/2018 12:30

Dishwasher will be number one priority! I hate doing the dishes.

What about a range. Are they good or a load of expensive faff?

Any professional chef you'd care to name. I utterly loathe cooking .... Grin

Buscake · 10/07/2018 12:32

A sofa or comfy chair to sit and read while waiting for things to cook. Nowhere to put this in my kitchen, but I often wish for it! Kitchen table/island just doesn’t cut it.

frasier · 10/07/2018 12:33

Kitchen I have now, nothing. It’s great. Maybe a magic champagne tap 😄

Kitchen I’m moving to in two months, loads more space 😫

Pebblespony · 10/07/2018 12:34

MrsExpo not sure the budget will stretch to that Grin

Boiling water tap, for hot drinks and the pans of boiling water I always forget I need when cooking.
2 sinks and plenty of work or draining space on each side of them. Pull out drawers in larder cupboard. Just lots of pull out drawers in bottom cupboards.

Tertiathethird · 10/07/2018 12:36

A really decent fridge and big freezer. Ours are okay but can’t entertain without having no space fOr normal life

muffinthepuffin · 10/07/2018 12:39

YY to big fridge and freezer, we've converted our cupboard that held our old integrated one to be storage and now have a lovely big free-standing one.
My mum has a warming drawer and it's handy for Sunday dinners...
I'd do a deep drawer for pans in my next reconfigure.

I have a separate utility and it's brilliant; a mate of mine has one on the first floor with the bedrooms and that makes loads of sense! But not for mucky horsey stuff.

MORE SPACE (tiny house here!). That’s it.

A couple of friends have Everhot cookers which are range style and they’re beautiful and brilliant, but pricey. We’ve got a Smeg cooker (gas jobs, electric oven) and I love it.

wowfudge · 10/07/2018 12:48

I was thinking 'staff'!

MissCherryCakeyBun · 10/07/2018 14:43

In the utility, as you have horses, can I suggest a drying area for boots and hanging space for jackets etc and a laundry basket for grubby horsey stuff ......SD has horses and this would make life so much easier as when she comes back from the yard all the stuff can go away to dry off ( lets be honest it's England and this weather is abnormal Grin) and stable clothes can be washed as required not trailed round the house Wink

roseyposeyshmosey · 10/07/2018 14:48

100% a boiling water tap.

IdaDown · 10/07/2018 20:55

A friend has 2 tables in her kitchen. Kids do homework/games/crafts etc... on one and the other is kept clear for (actually) eating at. Genius - no shifting piles of crap every time you want to eat/have coffee/read paper.

Another friend has 2 dishwashers. They are a family of 7 though. But still, we’re only 3 and especially after a big cook i’m left with pots on the side waiting for the load to finish.

I’ve got 2 single ovens. One stacked on top of the other. Very useful.

I’d love to have storage behind the countertop. If you imagine full depth worktops, then instead of a wall behind, have flush sliding door cupboards (like a wall) to store stuff like food mixer, coffee machine... with sockets in the cupboards. Just pull appliance out, use and push back in. Clear worktops - ahhhhhhh.

bellsbuss · 10/07/2018 21:00

Just doing ours now , family of 6 so have 3 single eye level ovens , 2 dishwashers and a wine cooler for me 😀 currently got a range cooker but I hate having to keep bending down.

tryagainsardines · 10/07/2018 21:02

I am another one for a dishwasher. My kitchen is too small to house one :(

dudsville · 10/07/2018 21:04

As pp said, counter top cupboard storage with plugs for hiding frequently electrics. I have my coffe maker, kettle and toaster all lined up in one area as I prefer to leave the rest of the counter tops free.
