Planning a kitchen in a new build. Is there anything you wish had been put in your kitchen? We have a lot of space to play around with. I cook a lot so maybe a walk in larder thing?

Ooh yes, work top space with pull down shutters to hide stuff behind - excellent idea.

brownbeauty · 10/07/2018 22:31

A massive island

Pollaidh · 10/07/2018 22:37

More drawers for stuff.
Deep pan drawers.
Clever German engineered expandable cupboard thingies that rotate out in multiple steps.
Recycling sorter in a big drawer

OneEpisode · 10/07/2018 22:41

We have two fridges instead of one big one. Our design forced us into it but It is actually much better.

Pebblespony · 10/07/2018 23:00

I love the saucepan lid holder. They annoy me falling out of the bloody press.

Oh also worth looking at the Neff inter greater dishwashers that have a drawer at the top for cutlery - I wouldn't change to anything else now it gives so much more space on the bottom drawer. Also the Neff model we have shines a light onto the floor to tell you how long is left on the wash - a bit of a gimmick but I have actually found it quite useful.
Another nice function is that on some of the wash cycles (like the eco) the washing machine door automatically opens a little at the top when finished to allow drying and cooling - we found this particularly useful recently when we had to put a full load of dirty dishes on to wash just as we were leaving for holiday as the machine wasn't left closed and a little damp for the holiday (not a big deal I appreciate but a nice feature to have imo).

Wagtail89 · 11/07/2018 09:41

Sorry trying on phone - integrated dishwasher.

Pebblespony · 11/07/2018 13:28

I NEED this dishwasher in my life

I need a dishwasher that shines a light on the floor!

Linguaphile · 11/07/2018 13:45

Sparkling water tap would be mine. Also 2 dishwashers sounds amazingly indulgent and convenient. I’m American by birth and one of the things I miss most from my homeland is waste disposal in the sink. 😢

PeckhamPauline · 11/07/2018 13:49

An appliance garage
A table (my kitchen is very small)
Pantry (ditto)

A sofa or comfy chair to sit and read while waiting for things to cook.

And this! My granny had an upholstered rocker in the corner of her huge kitchen, looking out of the window, and it was fabulous. I totally forgot about it until now.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 11/07/2018 14:02

Pauline.....genius granma you had I've been trying to find somewhere for my rocker I inherited from my Gran and now I've found it.....thanks so much for the idea Thanks

Depending on storage in the rest of the house space for lightbulbs, batteries, candles string etc.

Odds and ends drawer. Shelf space for appliances you use sometimes (ice cream maker/mixer/grinder) and associated drawer for the attachments.

Lights that actually lights the important places. ( I have plenty of light but on the middle of the room, not over the sink or food prep areas.)

Beehiveyourself · 11/07/2018 14:30

Linguaphile I have a waste disposal, they are incredibly simple to put in.

VaseOfWhiteRoses · 11/07/2018 14:39

For you, puffy

What do you wish you had in your kitchen?
Thesuzle · 11/07/2018 14:39

Exciting
Walk in larder room. Or put doors over a corner and line with shelves (north facing wall) Saves having lots of wall units which crowd a space
Qwooker tap
Double main sink and smaller one next to your main veg prep area with bin underneath
Under floor heating def, frees up wall space for furniture placement
Plan out your louge seating and have floor sockets for side table lamps ( I forgot this and deeply regret)
Stuff all the washing machine dryer, boot room sink shelving into utility, have drying racks above and wall storage also boiler in hereif poss and a loo, and or shower
Plan the over head lighting zones and task lighting for prep area, more lighting zones will make the dining space special.
Range cooker yes big as you can go go or two wall mounted ones (steam oven) etc
Hide/build in the microwave. Ugly things
Good extraction, find the quietest you can
Don’t have a beech wooden work top. nightmare burn marks wine stains. Upkeep. etc
Diff surfaces for diff areas,

Floor tiles can be used as wall tiles

Shall i stop now ? feeling quite breathless have a great time with this
And don’t compromise on anything important to you, despite what husband says ! I was even paying for some of it
Good luck it also takes 3 times as long as promised

humding · 11/07/2018 14:47

No laundry stuff in kitchen
2 dishwashers
As many deep pan drawers as possible
Large fridge, small freezer with ice/cold water dispenser and large freezer elsewhere
A kitchen table that isn't needed for eating from
Plenty of electrical sockets, more than you think
Large capacity oven plus at least one other
2 microwaves
Good lighting

I love my new kitchen :)

Linguaphile · 11/07/2018 16:31

Sadly Beehive I think they’re banned here where we live (Luxembourg). Not sure why?? My SIL came to visit us from the states and commented that she was shocked that such a nice house didn’t have a disposal and that she was nearly ready to vomit having to dispose of the waste by hand. I’m not that grossed out, it’s just a shame they’re so convenient!

Pebblespony · 11/07/2018 16:37

Thesuzle I think you should plan my kitchen! Sounds lovely.

I would like an utilty room with a big sink in it, a boot room and a small shower room and loo. Kitchen would have a larder or a pantry with a worktop. I wouldn't have an island but would have a kitchen table in a sort of 'farmhouse' kitchen.
This dream kitchen is bigger than my entire downstairs.

80sMum · 12/07/2018 09:24

We are going to be replacing our kitchen this year. The last time we did it was 1991 and a lot has changed since then!

The thing I always wished I had is a sink that doesn't stain! We have had a white sink for 27 years and I won't do that again! I'm going for stainless steel this time.

Does anyone have any experience of Silestone quartz worktops? How resilient are they? Our designer says they are good and much nicer/better than laminate. Is she right? I don't want something that will stain easily or need a lot of maintenance.

Also, what about Quooker taps? Anyone got one? Are they worth forking out for?

mummyhaschangedhername · 12/07/2018 09:31

I have a range and love it. To be fair it only gets used to it's full capacity at Christmas 🙈 but I do love it and having two full sized ovens is very useful.

In my previous house I had a garbage disposal which was really helpful and meant I didn't have waste food hanging around. Ideally you need a small middle sink for that to work properly. Also not sure how environmentally friendly they are, I was naive at the time, but it's certainly something I would consider getting again if I looked up their impact.

I would love a boiler tap. Not even sure why to be honest as I don't drink hot drinks so it would only be for cooking purposes 😂 but I would love one nevertheless and it means I don't have a kettle taking up workspace and looking untidy (although it's fairly pretty to look at).

I would love a pantry.

If I had the space and money I would also install cooler draws so I can store things like potatoes for longer.

Separate utility is definitely the way to go though.

CestLeWhy · 12/07/2018 10:33

Having lived in the US, I love garbage disposals, sprayer taps and pot fillers (fold away taps above the hob for filling large heavy pots). Would definitely add all three to my dream kitchen.

I would love an 'appliances cupboard' with plugs inside to tidy away kettle, toaster, food processor for tidy countertops

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/07/2018 10:37

A tumble dryer
A dishwasher
A massive fridge freezer
A table

We have a tiny kitchen. The washing machine's in a cupboard.

PurpleChai · 12/07/2018 10:39

A self-cleaning oven and another vote here for a boiling tap.
